CZ = cubic zirconia. I believe that's what Smokestiks use.

I'm not looking to change colors of the LED. Agree that would be cool but first you'd have to start with a white LED and then you'd have to make sure the "crystal" end cap replacing the ash cap can be removed/replaced easily (i.e. not glued in) but at the same time doesn't fall out during use.

My batteries have blue or red LED's. There's probly a post here somewhere about changing LED's but I'm not going to attempt modification of anything internal on my batteries, so I'm going for a clear crystal cap that I know won't "clash" with the LED color.

I ordered size 40ss from Dreamtime Creations. They have a clear crystal with no foil back. The crystal fits pretty well into the end of my KR808D but the rim set (to hold it in there) is slightly too big. I can't just put the crystal in without the rim set because it's not snug enough to stay in there by itself. So I'm going to try the next size down (after payday).

I saw another forum member doing this my gluing the crystals onto one of the white caps pulled from the mouth end of a carto (cut down with a razor blade so it's a little shallower to fit better on the end of the battery) and for that, the 40ss size would be perfect. I'm just not so sure I want a white backing to my crystal. Then that thought led me to wonder if the computer board & wires look that I see there when I pull the ash cap off going to show with a clear backing (maybe - but maybe not due to the faceting)? Maybe a white backing would be better - and maybe there's an advantage to the foil backing on most crystals after all...

crystal tipped battery

Here is one crystal mod..very cool!

This is found in the Mod forum under;

Cosmetic Mods

Thanks for referencing this. It's the post that got me started thinking about how to do this myself. I just wish I knew if the bedazzler size that fits perfect in her 510 would also fit perfect in my KR808D. I don't know if they're the same size.

I posted about purple LEDs before,as I have two. I've had them for about two months now. They started off being really bright...now one is bright and the other is very muted, which as stated previously, is very annoying because its hard to tell if it's blinking.

CZ gem ended batts...this is the ONLY thing v4l needs to come out with to make me a happy girl :)

The cheap metal used in the casing is very very stretchy. Being careful not to hit the board holding the LED, you can stick any kind of awl, jewelers screw driver, quality fork tine (;) ) in the casing and pushing against the opposite side and slowly turning around the inside edge widen the end at least a millimeter or two. Stop and dry-fit frequently so you can stop in time. Without jewelry making tools, shrinking it again would be a challenge to do accurately, so it's really a one way trip.

I just expanded an old one 2.2mm in about five seconds by simply pushing a taper for a wood lathe into the front.

Of course: Try at your own risk, yadda yadda. ;)

Sawlight, the professional machinist among our ranks, will be along shortly to laugh at my primitive metal stretching, and tell you all the RIGHT way to go about it. ;)

Scary - but I might try something like this if the 34ss doesn't work well.

I played around with this a little more today. I cut a white carto tip in half (width-wise) and tried the 40ss crystal on that. I don't like the way the white backing looks (and blocks all but the small hole in the center when the LED lights up), so I took a pair of manicure scissors and cut the inside hole bigger, so it was just a small rim around the outside. This looks much better and it does fit well into the end where the ashcap was but I can't get the waterproof superglue to hold even after 36 hrs. The slightest bump dislodges the crystal from the base. Aside from that it isn't too bad but I still prefer a more "finished" look with the metal rim-set around the crystal.

If the 34ss works, I'll post pics.

And I also noticed that the Smokestik Hendu (the look I'm trying to replicate) does appear to be flared out a little on the LED end, so I may have to try "stretching" the metal casing. Thanks for letting me know how it can be done :)
