Awesome. How many ohms?

Ok I have one together... A forum member sent me some Pyrex.. Thank you so much .. It melts easy compared to fq...
And since I couldn't find any nickel or SS nr wire, I went by a guitar shop and got the smallest E string they had..
9 ga....
It doesn't say SS or nickel, but I thought I would give it a shot anyway, it showed no resistance so we shall see..

Anyway here is a pic of my finished drying piece..

A quick check came out at 2.6........ 32ga. A1

6 wraps or so..
Now the waiting begins lol

Thanks Tom... Ill be trying the fq again soon..probably next day or so..

What I may try is an experiment and see if I can melt some Pyrex onto the top of the fq to seal it,and use the jb on the bottom as usual..

This coil seems to be just about optimum. 32ga Nichrome 1.8 ohm Scale is mm.

Less wick wraps are definitely best. 3 wraps at the business end seems to work nice. I cut the wick at an angle such that the end in the tank has more wraps than at the coil.

Looking good D.. But what I don't get is how your ohms can be so low... Mine with about 6 wraps is already about 1.8 or so. I am concerned if I got as many wraps as you have the ohms would be like at 5-6 ohm...

I just did the jb weld when I posted my first post with pic above... I haven't checked the jb in a few hours though..

I am thinking I may want to let it set up at least until morning

Ok it fired... And I am wrong on the ohms it is 2.4 that just seems high to me compared to yours.. And I have fewer wraps.. Uggg it is 32ga A1 Kanthal

I did at very low voltage.. I new if I fired too long it would deform the tube..

I was wondering about that as well. Not THAT much difference between Kanthal and Nichrome. Your tubes look like the same size, maybe the longer straight legs.

Ahhh could be.. I see your nr wire connections are much closer than mine, especially the negative end... I will make another tomorrow with the crimp right next to it...

Ok just got done hooking everything up and vaping.. Here are a few pics, I couldn't put much more than 3 wraps of mesh on the Pyrex tube due to the fact that it wouldn't of went through the hole to get into the tank..

It takes about 10 seconds to heat up and start producing vapor...

The second pic is with the coil firing...


Something interesting is that even if mesh goes dry, it is still not the harsh mesh hit I have experienced in the past..now I just have to work on time to heat..

That 10 seconds isn't so practical. Once it got going how was it? I do hope you get this working nice, don't get me wrong-- I'm about worn out on glass.

Well asdq it wasn't bad.. Ok vapor not a whole lot of flavor, but then again I only have 3 wraps of mesh on it...
I think some of the time to heat up is due to the fact that the coil is not right up against the glass and I noticed the positive leg coming out through the top of the mesh just before the connector to the guitar wire was getting red hot just before coil was getti g red hot, so there is some waste there heat wise...

It's my first one and I will be tweaking it a bit..

It's taking about 10 seconds totAl time to get it a lot of vapor.. I need to work on heat transfer time...

Yeah, coils coils need to against the glass. Three layers of mesh is all you want.

Your tubes must be larger than mine. Have room to spare with 5 layers, which is too many. Start up time should be 1-2 seconds.

OK,I pulled the coil out of my original one by accident,so now I have another one curing..If I was smart I would do a few more,but I been tinkering with my original for a few hours,so now time to take a break,and re-visit later..the new one I am making has a shorter length..I was working on my FQ..I had a long piece,and I had just heated it up,waiting for it to cool,and it hit the floor..needless to say,it got a small crack in it...uggg..but oh well,I have a few smaller pieces of it to work with..
