Recently at our one quality B&M in the area, an employee was showing me pictures of a build where someone used a piece of quartz as a wick. He said the only downside was that you had to actually wrap around it, as you couldn't build and then wick, for obvious reasons. The write-up said the flavor surpasses any other wicking methods, and you never get a dry hit. It is supposedly has a consistant flavor from drip to dry. I have searched and come up with nothing on this topic. Has anyone seen or heard of this, or had he just happened upon a random post somewhere? I would be curious to try if it something that can be found.

I'm curious about this as well, as I heard the same thing this weekend while hitting up various local B&M's.
Extremely interesting, in theory it shoukd be amazing.

That was kind of my question. Apparently it is tipped downwards toward the well and it soaks it up somehow. Still unsure of details.

It sounds like the quarts is there just to provide a surface for the natural siphoning properties of (most) liquids have. This could explain why the flavor is so clean.

In theory I see it performing about the same as ceramic...which I use in my gennies, ceramic seems like it would be more porous though. Ramp up time is a little longer due to the larger mass but awesome flavor.

Just looked on Amazon and I am seeing listings for what are called "quartz points." Around $8 for 10 pieces. Seems quite a bit pricier than cotton, but I am sure it is much longer lasting, and I bet changing flavors just requires a rinse! Ordering now!

Finding the material in that form may be a problem. And I read they should be kiln fired first to prevent and micro glass shards from being inhaled.
This is what i was thinking. Wouldnt ceramic rod be much better in every way? And no glass shards ect.?
It does give some great ideas for possibly trying ceramic in the same manner. Now I wish I didn't throw out all those broken ceramic wicks I had for my genesis builds---

Great thoughts! I haven't checked out on Amazon yet, I was still price comparing. I am now looking to see if any have been fired or not. And the pieces come randomly assorted from 3/4" to 1.5" and I was planning on just breaking into the sizes I would need. Never thought of this! Let's keep going. Great thread so far, thank you all!
