I get same good flavour with both cotton and rayon...

i notice that rayon its always excellent in absorbing the liquid evenly no matter what u do to it...

Soooo i use both but i can see myself choose one of another depending the build or even the atty design....

For sure tho if someone try need to give time to both of those to learn to work with them good and then judge if they prefer one or another

For me, it's a matter of convenience. It really depends on your vaping style. If you use sturdy, large-diameter coils, high wattage and need quick and efficient wicking, rayon is a better choice.

For me, MTL, 2.5 mm ID, 28g coils, low wattage, low wicking-speed requirements, the hassle of trying to stuff enough rayon into such a small coil without distorting it is just not worth it--most of the time.
Convenience to me is not having to mess with my atties. 2mm coils. 3x30 twisted (electrically about the same as a single strand of 26 gauge, but with more surface area). Definitely MTL. This weekend, I decided my ADV squonker could use a new coil, so I checked my logs for the last time I replaced it. 2019-10-06. Here's all the maintenance I've done since:
Code:
  2020-01-11 DB & wick.
2020-01-12 Cleaned bottle. Filled with fresh NN 12.5
2020-Spring DB & Wick (don't record date). Ran a bit "wet".
  2020-08-01 DB & Wick
  2020-12-03 DB & Wick
2021-05-28 DB & Wick -- fairly tight but probably not excessive
  2021-09-25 New coil & wick.
Five rayon wicks in two years. Rayon FTW! :D

I dream of the day my wicks last that long. It's kind of like looking forward to heaven.
Did you ever see the Ceramic Wicks??? I used to make and use them many years ago. See the video of one of the types I used back then. Used to last forever!

I switched to vaping RDL/DL in 2018. So longevity is different than MTL. I use many different attys, but the two I use everyday are these two.

Geekvape Zeus X Mesh RTA
Kanthal Mesh and cotton included installed on 5/7/2021
327.9 ml of juice used
39995 puffs @ 35 watts
122 puffs per ml of juice

Wotofo SMRT PnP Rebuildable
Mesh and cotton included installed on 8/18/2021
162.2 ml of juice used
21 watts

Mesh is easier and faster to build. Flavor is also better and the vapor is consistently finer in particle size. And those Wotofo SMRT PnP can be rebuilt under 1 minute. I've use Rayon in the Zeus before and it is much easier to use vs. coils. Since you can always take small pieces and stuff it under the mesh to make it tighter. And the wicking has to be tight with mesh in every single spot. Otherwise you'll get a super hot thin vapor stream with your puff that is far worse than a dry hit with coils.

I can tell the Zeus is getting close to rebuilding by the puffs per ml. As coils/mesh gets used, the puffs per ml starts climbing. And usually I get 60 to 70 puffs per ml with a fresh rebuild with this setup. Most people just turn up the heat when the puffs per ml increase which is a quick fix, but the coil/mesh goes downhill faster.

The PnP is on the Dovpo Abyss which doesn't sport a puff counter. But I see no reason why I couldn't get 300ml of juice through it at least. I also have a PnP mesh in a SXK Supbox too, but it is horrible. I don't know if it is the plastic tank or a bum mesh (leads are spot welded) or something, but it isn't good. Someday I'll play with it. In the Abyss with the glass tank is just fabulous.

I did get over 1000ml of juice through one Zeus mesh with rebuilding 5 times with dry burning. But I never found dry burning ever taste as good as a fresh new coil/mesh anyway. So I generally don't dry burn much anymore. I also was never a fan of contact coils either.

Rip Tripper before he became a caricature of himself!

I've never seen or used those, and likely never will, but I did buy a few packages of ReadyxWick a couple of years that I haven't played with yet.

I never notice improvement in lasting longer to rewick from cotton or rayon cause i always rewick when my coils get gunky even if flavour is still good and that is usually from 7 days up to 10days or something and i vape 12mls per day more or less of 80vg juices with usually very low flavourings

both the cotton or rayon is always looking great except in some cases that the part that was in and contact to the coil may be little coloured depending the juice i used and its colour....

I also like a little warm vape defenetly not cold so i dont know if that matters but i wish my coils would last more before got gunky cause i feel like the i rewick only cause of coils and cotton would last very much

Rayon users rewick out of boredom... I can easily put 300mls through my Steam Crave Titan before I have to degunk the coils. The Rayon wick in it could be washed dried and reused if you had to, it's as clean as when it was first installed. I could never do that with cotton by any stretch of the imagination, let alone get 300mls through it.

I have a bad habit to check the coils from the topcap with a flashlight and when i see they go gunky i change even tho the flavour is still great..
Meybe after years i am bored and i start rewick when flavour changes instead of being so crazy about it

I do the same. Here's one of my Geekvape IM1 after 100ml. The iPhone colored the cotton as gray, but it was still white.

This is the Geekvape Zeus X Mesh using cotton after 130ml of juice.

Same RTA. I don't recall how much juice through it. Although it looks 250+ ml to me. The wicking I don't recall, but I would guess it is Rayon. Not sure why the wicking looks so messy. Might be the first time I used Rayon with mesh.

I still think that, ignoring any possible health issues associated with silica, the flavor with silica wick was better than either cotton and rayon. Of course, that's really hard to "measure" accurately without identical mods and attys and juices...if then.
