We have a 4 year old granddaughter that lives with us. So I'm debating whether or not to get the bottled liquids.

What are ways that I can keep her safely and completely away from them? I'm thinking maybe a locked box. Are there any other precautions I should take?

Also, just how dangerous is this liquid. I read somewhere, don't remember where, that poisonous amounts of nicotine can be absorbed through the skin. So handling the bottles, themselves, has to be done with care.

the warnings on the bottles say to wash skin immidiately but I rarely do. With handling the bottles after a while its inevitable that you will get liquid on your hands. I know I've read a warning that has said consumption of liquid can be fatal so I would definately recomend, if not a locked box, something that is sure to keep your grandchild out.

Newme, many suppliers provide their juices in child-proof containers. If you happen to get some that does not come in them you can certain move them to child-proof ones. Putting everything in a locked box isn't a bad idea. I do attempt to be careful when filling carts, but at times get it on my skin. I just wipe it off, finish what I'm doing then wash my hands. I've never gotten enough on me or had it on long enough to feel any effects.

It takes a fairly large amount of nicotine solution at the level we vape to be harmful when absorbed through the skin. That said, I always was my hands immediately if I get any significant amount on them. And keeping your liquids in their bottles with childproof caps, in locked boxes on a high shelf are still the best idea with children around. Better safe than sorry.

Some vendors sell in childproof bottles. FreedomSmokeUSA does and they also sell the empty bottles. I just bought from them yesterday - I probably buy the most juice from them and they just added over 60 new flavors. They were having 30% off flavored juices the last couple of days as they added the new flavors (code: flavors) . And if that sale is over then code freedomsmokeusa will get 10% off everything.

Grandkids and pets are why I only use cartomizers. I only refill cartos behind locked doors. I'm just afraid I'd forget and leave an open bottle of juice around if I dripped. I may be overly cautious, but I treat my liquid as if it's a pesticide, bleach, or any other poison.

Keep it locked away, and wash your hands after handling. Nicotine is toxic:

From another poster:

"A one ounce (30ml) bottle of 36mg (high nic) eJuice contains 36mg x 30ml = 1080mg of nicotine. A lethal dose is 50 to 60mg in the bloodstream under ideal circumstances.
1080mg divided by 60mg = 18 lethal doses per bottle."

"According to the National Capital Poison Center, the lethal dosage of nicotine in the human body is 40-60mg, although mild signs of poisoning can show up after consuming as little as 5".

From Wikipedia:

"Spilling an extremely high concentration of nicotine onto the skin can result in intoxication or even death since nicotine readily passes into the bloodstream from dermal contact.[5]"

Now, I'm "not" trying to be alarmist, just recommend taking precautions. You know, like Mom always said, "Better safe than sorry". :)

Can the nicotine be readily absorbed if it's suspended in pg or vg ?

Both are supposed to enhance transdermal absorption of nicotine (they are used in "the patch")

From the patent for MEANS FOR TRANSDERMAL ADMINISTRATION OF NICOTINE

substances enhancing transdermal penetration, preferably a compound selected from the group consisting of alcohols, such as short chain alcohols, e.g ethanol and the like, long chain fatty alcohols, e.g. lauryl alcohols, and the like, and polyalcohols, e.g. propylene glycol, glycerin

Hee hee, been there, done that! Try rinsing your eye out under the bathroom faucet for a fun time...

I don't worry too much about the skin absorption, but the juice itself is sticky; I just gotta wash it off...

I swear I thought I was going to be blind. "You'll put your eye out" :)
