Hello! Based on my experience, trimming the wicks short enough so you can tuck them between the rim and the outside posts of the RM2 makes sense cause of how the juice travels when you squonk it. The juice disperses out towards the perimeter, saturating where the wicks sit and moves down the center back into the hole, making contact with the wick nearest to the hole giving it more juice before going home.

I think.

that makes sense, sometimes when I flood the atty I do get some juice "condensation" where the cap screws down.
If you look at the rm2 with the cap off the hole slopes from between the post to the back so if you fill the back portion the juice will not drain as well and youll have juice sitting in the atty

What Supe said. We are shooting for the freshest tasting, least molested juice in our vapes. Capturing innocent juices in an intricate web of cotton only serves to hold it captive in close proximity to a rather heated situation; thusly, cooking it before vaping it . . . . . . . . . .. the bestest, tastiest juice is the virgin stuff in the bottle. Secondishly, the fastest way to get more juice to the pertinent part of the wick (the part inside the coil) is letting it flow there. Trapping it in cotton, although darn close to it's intended location, is, nonetheless, trapping it, and not allowing it to move freely (as liquids are wont to do).

I prefer short wick because I like fresh squeezed juice. I mean, you can squonk as often as ya want, right :)

As a penny torturer, it always bugs me to disintegrate the cotton inside the wick, lose the vape, then throw away a wad of cotton soaked juice. With the reo, no problem, but with the drippers, you are either dripping every three puffs with a small amount of cotton, or chucking a ml in the trash once every couple of days, which adds up! I have yet to see dry wick behind the posts on my squids, even when getting dry hits. My only worry is that one of these days I will pour my martini into my dripper, or spike my martini with unicorn blood. Actually that sounds kinda good...

The PID? Well, no, I'm not. The reason that preempts this one, tho, is I like to get my TH from air passing under the coil. (I'm a high coiler. . . .:p) Were I to prefer the mellower vape from only topflow air . . .. then I'd get around to not liking it for this ↑ reason.

I have been bouncing back and forth from the center wicked micro to the PID nano for a couple weeks now. I do prefer less throat hit. When I do wrap a PID coil, I use a very small amount of cotton under the coil. It is about the same amount as I would use for a micro wick, if not less. I use just enough to touch the bottom of the coil and enough tail on either side after that to tuck under the legs kinda like this \_/ or at least that is what I shoot for. I've tried using lots of cotton and little cotton. I find the frequency of needing to squonk is about the same regardless to how much cotton I shove in there. The taste is better the less cotton I use. I also find the amount of juice wasted is proportional to the amount of cotton in the wick.

I do long tails and wrap them around the outside of the posts to the back portion of the RM2 where they lay on the ceramic base. I like being able to take many hits before squonking again. Whatever works for you, works for you. I can get at least 20 hits before squonking again. I use high percentage VG with a 1-1.4 ohm coil. I use unflavored juice.

I find less is more applies to the diameter of the wick. Too fat of a wick doesn't get enough juice to the coil.

I was reluctant to cut my cotton short on either side of the coil. It just seemed to me, the more cotton you have in there, the less you have to squonk. After trying both ways many times, I can tell you, the shorter the better for me. I like SXD's fresh sqeezed juice analogy. It seems to me, the more extra juice you have in the atty that doesn't get vaporized gets cooked. By the time it does get vaporized, it tastes a little burnt to me. It probably depends on your juice to a certain degree. Gorilla Juice seems to be very sensitive to being cooked. Fresh squeezed is better imo. YMMV
