We all probably know somebody who has "Quit smoking by eating obscure food X". I never had too much luck with any of them (still smoking, after all), but some did seem to help a bit. Wondering if anyone has any suggestions...

I'm hoping this won't devolve too quickly into a "vote on your favourite crisps" thread (I'm in for cheese and onion, btw :) ), so let's set some rough ground rules:

1) Hopefully something that isn't too obvious. But if it really helped more than you were expecting, post away.
2) Hopefully not too obscenely expensive. If we're going to eat them compulsively...
3) Hopefully not too bad for you. See 2) above.

I've found sunflower or pumpkin seeds shallow fried in oil (you don't need much, they emit their own when they're hot enough), with a good slosh of soy sauce fits the bill. Put the soy sauce on when they're still hot, most of it evapourates off, leaving a smokey residue... Nom :)

When I tried to quit cold turkey or with patches etc I used to use Worthers hard caramels. When I started vaping I didn't have those issues. I used fruit flavored vapes and completely avoided tobacco flavors and have had no issues. I don't the urge to snack like that since then. You could also get desert flavored juice with 0nic and vape it every time you get the urge to snack.

That is actually one of my go-tos right now. The Werthers sugar free coffee flavored caramels. Those and the sugar free fruity Pectin Halls...I eat a lot of those when I am at work and cannot vape.

Just snack on some tasteless (unless ya grow your own) celery sticks (aka poor man's dental floss) or carrots. You'll soon be back vaping through whatever hungers ya may have!

@ Ravensfan

Thanks. We do spell stuff weirdly though. Too late for us now I guess... :)

@ WinstonSmith

Interesting... I like popcorn, but only ever normally eat it at the cinema. Definite risk of an air popper just wallowing in the pool of dust my toasted sandwich maker lives in, but hey, might be worth a try. Collecting barely used kitchen gadgets still probably cheaper than smoking, after all... :)

@ Iffy

Definitely already a believer in celery sticks. Or carrot sticks. With humous. Mostly humous, actually, doesn't really matter what you stick in it...

Air popped popcorn. Get an air popper. It is such a good investment, and if you can do without the butter it is a snack with a great amount of volume with a lot less calories than other snack food...(again if you can eat it without butter). And it is much cheaper than microwave popcorn.

spraying with just a little bit of butter flavored pam and some of your favorite mrs. dash seasoning is a fine way to give it some flavor without adding to the calorie bill.

I do like the idea of getting some 0 nic as fake food...

Still building up my collection, and it's all low nic so far. I figure I'll wean myself down slowly, either by diluting it, or alternating between that and 0 nic, and using more of the 0 as time goes on. Can't jump ahead of myself though, right now I'm just focusing on not smoking...

I've just been doing what Ravensfan pointed out. I'm vaping my sweets and have lost 9 lbs in the last 6 weeks. LOL I even made it through the last few weeks of Reese's PBC Easter eggs and didn't miss buying them. Granted the only time I can't (or don't) smoke when I feel like is it at one of the grand kids ball games.
Pineapple USD cake, butterscotch, Strawberry cotton candy, pralines and VR Caramelized cappuccino have me happily vaping and not missing my junk food. Got my fingers crossed that it will continue to keep my chocolate/sweet tooth a bay.

Watermelon among others is a negative calorie food and would be a great snack. Air popcorn is another good suggestion as well as the sugar free stuff you've already found.

Good luck!

Bologna sandwiches was my thing when I tried to go cold turkey. I dont recomend it. But cold turkey is a healthy protein.

What I ment to write is that I use a dessert flavored vape at night and it does help with my sweet tooth and it keeps me away from the chips, to a fairly decent amount that is. Pretzels are fat free and salty. That is my choice but still they are loaded with carbohydrates. They dont come free.

Peanut butter and celery? What is this witchcraft? :)

I may have to try that, because I like both. Peanut butter and lettuce sandwiches are another one that don't sound like they should work. Better if you cut the lettuce into a slice, instead of tearing leaves off... something about the texture. Peanut butter and Marmite sandwiches too... hmm... :)

Crackers and cheese is good. Although I fear we're back to humous transmission methods again.

Maybe if I just put a stainless steel wick in a pot of humous...

Oddly, since quitting I've been drinking raspberry ice tea all day. Not a great thing, since its quite high in sugar, but I don't use artificial sweeteners. (The silly things smokers care about, even though they are poisoning themselves with cigs, lol) but I have actually cut down on my snacking. Used to have something every night while watching tv, but now I just vape a yummy flavor.

For sweet tea, get some root liquorice. I got close to a kilo on ebay for about £15. That's probably literally a lifetime supply :)

Put it through a cheese grater and the powder makes the nicest tea in the world - the glycyrrhizin it contains is the sweetest naturally occurring compound known to mankind, I believe. You could probably get a cheap herb grinder and do it that way, though I imagine it would mess it up fairly quickly - it destroys the cheese graters.

You can't drink it *all* day, or it will cause heart problems. It is known to lower blood testosterone too. But as long as you're sensible...

I cant do that. I wont drink my calories. I am a crystal light enthusiast. If only the two liter sized packets came caffeinated.
