quitting for good

Woohoo first thread outside the new member forum hahaha

Anyway I've been vaping for about a year now and I'm happy to say it has taken me from smoking close to a pack a day to no more than 5 in a week. I'm deciding now, however, that it's time to stop with the cigarettes completely. I owe it to myself and all the people that care about me and want me to quit.

I'm finding it a little difficult to make that jump from a very small number of combustibles to absolutely none at all. At first I made small goals for myself. Cut down one every evening, skip the work break cigarette, things like that all the way down to not buying them anymore. This worked great but now I'm here and the only step left is stop completely.

I know it's a matter of willpower and wanting it for myself that will ultimately get me there, but what worked for you guys to make vaping your only source of nicotine? I only smoke on the weekends and it's usually over a few drinks when I'm out with my buddies. Comorbidity got me on this one good :/

I'm sure it is different for each person but what I did was tell myself to see if I could curb the craving through vaping and, if not, I wouldn't beat myself up if I ended up smoking a cig. There have been some really tough spots, not going to lie, but I've made it through with the support of this group. I did at one point end up picking up some NET juice, I call it my "panic" juice, which I use when I feel like I'm having a really tough time, maybe that could work for you as well.

Don't beat yourself up, think of all the cigs you HAVEN'T smoked due to vaping and carry on!

I smokes and vaped while gradually reducing the cigs until I realized I did't need the cigs anymore.

Still had a pack left in the drawer, just in case, but threw them away after about 6 months.

I had tried a cold turkey switch from cigs to vaping before and that never worked for me.

Best of luck. You will know when you are ready.

Thanks for the support guys :)

That's pretty much my mentality now. If I'm smoking 5 a week down from let's say 15 as a daily average, that's around 100 cigarettes a week not smoked! That's a fantastic accomplishment with the help of vaping! So for the most part I'm proud of myself.

Just this weekend I started to realize how foul my mouth tasted after a cigarette. I only had 2 and I passed for the rest of the night and just vaped. I think like you said I'm starting to realize I simply don't need them. This last stage is the one I've been stuck in for the longest, but im thinking maybe my mind and body are ready to go all in with vaping!

I'm sure I could just do a quick Google search and figure it out on my onesies, but since I'm here with all you helpful vapers, I'll just ask: what is NET juice?

I still vape 18mg nic at work but when home I drip 6mg nic. The hardest part for me is my morning coffee, I still crave and do have a cigarette but I have cut way back, and I mean way back. With my experience, a dripper has helped the most. I can just chain vape 6mg nic all the time when home and just do not get the cravings. Work is tough even with the 18. Good luck and with 5 a week, you're doing better than most.

I was in the same boat, I completely quit smoking when I first started vaping but then went out with a friend to a concert and drank quite a bit that night. On the way home I grabbed a pack of smokes and was not smoking as much as I used to but with my coffee and after meals were really tough.

Soon after that I got some NET juices and it has helped a whole lot especially with my coffee. I keep a higher mg nic juice in my tanks for extreme cravings and drip at a lower level when it's not so bad. And if I really get a bad urge I throw the higher nic in my RDA, after a few big lung hits of that no more cravings. I haven't smoked in a few days now (since I got the RDA) and am doing ok but if I slip again no big deal but am trying my best not too.

Morning coffee is hard for me too, I start every day with the same DIY Hangsen Desert Ship which, to me, tastes as close to a real cig as I've tried. I too move way down on the nic scale later in the day down to about 3mg at night. Found that higher nic gave me insomnia but have no problems after lowering the levels.

There are many vendors that offer NET or WTA juices, I picked up some H1N1 from Nicoticket and that did the trick for me but again what works for me may not work for you.

Hang in there and again, think about the cigs you are NOT smoking due to vaping rather than beating yourself up about the ones you do smoke.

Same here I have been both on analogs and vaping for a few months now and the same had cut down to a few a day. But over this weekend I have not had a cig, not entirely by choice... I had my wisdom teeth pulled on Friday and doctors orders no smoking however I have been cheating with my vape. Running the aerotank afc wide open and not taking big drags (working so far). One thing that was suggested to me when I first started was finding a flavor you absolutely love and keeping that to the side for those bad cravings. It's just a matter of taking all these suggestions and finding what works for you.

Try having a high nic high pg juice on the side just in case. or if you drip, try to get something that will kick the throat a bit more. I know when I get bad cravings right after I eat still, I throw on my emergeny tank that has an 80/20 pg/vg mix with 24 nic and I drilled open the holes in that old Kanger T3S tank and it hits hard and it stops the worst of the craving after a few deep inhales.

Best of luck and congrats! I've been vaping for a little while now and I still smoke maybe 3 a day.

Please don't laugh, but what worked for me was getting one of those darn signature banners. You know the "I haven't smoked in Xdays" things. It's ridiculous. No one on the ECF forum knows me. I don't post that much, so I don't have a "reputation" to protect. It's online, so I could ... well, lie, and who would know? And yet... I dual-used for 3 weeks, even smoked a whole pack in one day! -- then for some reason said - wooohoo! pretty Steeler colors! - and got the NicoTicket banner. And quit smoking.

Since then, I've been sorely tempted when coils just decide to burn out, or all my batteries need a charge at the same time, or I run out of a decent flavor, and yet, I've persevered because the very first thing that crosses my mind -- even before thoughts like "I know it will taste like crap" or "These cigarettes are so expensive" -- before that, I think: "Damn! I don't want to have to start my banner over!"

For some reason, I feel like I'd be a fraud if I smoked now, especially since so many nice ECF folks advised me on how to start out, pointed me to good equipment and flavors, and were actually way more supportive than folks I see every day. I didn't expect ECF to be a "support group", but apparently, for me it is.

I won't laugh at all in fact it's the only reason I don't have a banner, until I quit for good and it's been a week or so I won't put one up.

+1 on the banner. Once i put that up i'd have been furious with myself if i had to reset it.

Take higher nic juice with you if you go out drinking.

Incidentally - the banner works only if you have a vape you are already satisfied with and also backups for that vape. If you have one device and one charger and so on, then the law of Sod means that they will all fail at the same time, so maybe even consider a disposable cigalike, just in case.

Try out a disposable cigalike; once you can find a simple disposable cigalike that you can be happy with it's practically as if you merely changed brand of cigarette.

That was my downfall, I took some 6mg juice from a local B&M, next time I go out it will be with a Reo filled with 12 mg Virus. :D
