Why is there a "........." stigma associated with people who use e-cigarettes?

People tend not to like anything that don't fit in their conformity bubble. Especially so if the person bursting their bubble won't cave and accept moral inferiority when confronted with stuff like "You don't know what's in those things" and "Y'know those contain anti-freeze?".

I know I just sounded like a ......... myself lol. I really am quite nice and polite when people find the courage to ask me what I'm actually doing. ;)

That only happens to/with people who embrace their inner douche bag.

Rick might be right. Or it could be my Summer's Eve logo jacket. Kanye has one too

Why? Search any variation of "vaping in public," "weird looks," "police," "no-vaping policy," "huge cloud," or any other Boolean search term you can think of, read through, and count the number of posts with an in-your-face attitude. That's why. It's new, and being demonized in the press (on the dime of the government and Big Tobacco, but who takes the time to see who's paying for ads and feeding coverage), and when someone encounters their first vaper in the wild and that person blows a gigantic plume of smoke while all but daring them to say something, the result is what we're discussing.

Flame away, those who believe it is their God-given right to vape any time, any where, and damn the consequences to the rest of the community.

This^

The number of "I don't care what other people think" replies in this thread is not encouraging.

If you ask me, some of the worst "douchebags" can be found right here on ECF! People who complain about cloud-chasers. People that complain about people who vape in public. People who continually stress over the dangers of demon nicotine. People who think larger mods are silly. People who think it is wreckless to vape in the presence of children and/or think they should hide their vaping from children. People who think it is immoral for anyone under the age of 30 to vape. People who talk trash about the young people working in vape shops. etc, etc, etc. To each his/her own, but ECF is supposed to be an advocate for the vaping community, not its own worst enemy.

Sounds to me like every single person who ever posted on ECF could fall into one of your categorys at one point or another. People are entitled to their own likes and dislikes. Take a breath and roll with it.

Humm, I never thought people saw me as a DB. Guess that means I must be the biggest DB ever. A DB in denial. Or double DB. Anyways ever heard the old term opinions are like ***holes, everyone has one. If someone looks down on me for vaping, that's ok because my main goal is to stay off cigarettes and I will continue vaping no matter what the general public thinks about me. I still smoked when I was treated like a second class citizen for it, I'll still vape if thought of as a DB. We can't worry so much about what others think because no matter how hard we may try, we can't please 100% of the people, 100% of the time! All I know is I'm not smoking, i love to vape, I will vape, and if that upsets someone perhaps they need to mind their own business and not mine. I'm not vaping to please the public. I try not to offend anyone in the process but if I do, we'll I didn't mean to. I think it's sad everything has to have a stigma behind it. I'm just a person like everyone else, just trying to stay off cigarettes. If someone doesn't like my vaping, it's their problem .

I appear to be the only vaper who thinks vaping looks pretty stupid.
But I can assure you that there is an abundance of non-vapers who would quickly agree with me.

Luckily, I don't care if it looks stupid.
:)

Heh you're not alone! :toast:
That's why I really really prefer the smaller setups for outdoors use.

I've always been considerate of others indoors, but vaping while outside walking down the street...could care less what anyone thinks.

I've used one of my homemade box mods with a 801 atty, and a Drip-on-Demand bottle attached on top in public. Not sure what anyone thought of it, don't care.

You know maybe I'm just a grouchy old man, but I'd love for one of those people who see me and think I a douche-bag and then have the guts to come up to me a say so. Hell from the look of things I'm beginning to think I'm the only person on the face of this planet who intends on being able to vape anywhere I wish to vape. It reminds me of the analog cigarette smoker's lack of asserting their rights when they were confronted about their smoking. They would apologize, put it out and then sneak away. It's attitudes like that that began this anti-smoking campaign that we vapors are suffering from right now! I say be proud that you are smart enough to seek an BETTER alternative, do not apologize to these people, just be sorry for their lack of information and try to educate them. Of course if that fails, then take a toot on your PV and blow the vapor into their face and walk away.

Dear god...

i used to be conscious of what people thought but now that i got the vape bug i dont care at all, more often than not since i live in colorado people think im smoking pot and ask for a puff lol then when i tell them its not that they usually give me a weird look and walk away haha
I was vaping in the parking lot (tailgate party) of a Chargers game and a security guy came up to me.
He asked me if he could take a drag, and I told him it was just an electronic cigarette, probably not what he was expecting.

To this day I do not know if he was working on busting me, or if he really wanted to have a hit of hemp.
Such a fun life we live.
:)
But if you drive an Escalade with rims, you are a super douche.
That would be douche-rocket.

It's a term I'm trying to coin.
So forgive me.
:)

Not sure about other areas, but vaping is considered to be part of the Hipster "thing" here in NYC.
That's seriously depressing.

So, I do know of several people who are reluctant to switch in fear of being considered a hipster, which is apparently equal to ............
Well, it is, which again goes back to the seriously depressing thing.

You wanna hurt me? Go right ahead if it makes you feel any better. I'm an easy target. Yeah, you're right. I talk too much. I also listen too much. I could be a cold-hearted cynic like you, but I don't like to hurt people's feelings. Well, you think what you want about me. I'm not changing. I like me. My wife likes me. My customers like me. 'Cause I'm the real article. What you see is what you get.

I've been using e-cigs for a few years now, and while it hasn't completely stopped me from smoking real cigarettes, it definitely has helped significantly.

However, it's come to my attention (through the internet and television) that using e-cigs is the sign of a "........." and that people who use them are smug about it. I wouldn't consider myself smug about it at all. I don't look down on people who still smoke real cigarettes and I don't think highly of myself because I'm using an e-cig. The main reason why I use it is to cut down on real cigarettes and hopefully improve my health and cut down on the risks of a real cigarette.

I mostly vape while at home as opposed to out in public, but when I do vape in public, I can't help but wonder if people automatically think I'm a ......... because of it. I'm at an age now where I really don't care what others think about me, but I still think it's unfair that people would judge me without really knowing a damn thing about me.

Excuse me?
So you say that the media not only portray vapers as witches who can harm children merely by looking at them, but also as "douchebags"?

I like it :sneaky:
Being called a "........." by the mainstream media is an honor.
And being considered a "........." by those who swallow the media crap hook, line and sinker, that is an honor.
Being considered a "........." by those silly, uninformed mainstream-crap consumers who subsist on sound bites and who parrot any kind of nonsense without a moment's consideration, that is an honor. A very high honor indeed. :)
Yes, I like it :sneaky:

I do not care in the least if some nameless and faceless strangers consider me a ".........". Let them revel in it if they so desire. It does not matter to me. Not in the least.

If such people consider you a "........." then that means they know that you are different from them. And that is a very high honor indeed. :)
...
Oh, and being considered a "........." by people who hate vaping and vapers (whatever their motives may be and wherever those people happen to be and poison the atmosphere with their evil lies - that is the greatest honor of all :)

The "doucehbag stigma" comes from multiple sources.

First off, the Media (being the wholly-owned subsidiary of and total ..... to the same Globalist Financiers who own most of Big Pharma) has mounted an aggressive anti-vaping campaign because vaping is cutting HARD into the profit margins of their dealth-dealing puppet masters. Since they have no actual SCIENCE or FACTS to use to discredit ecigs, they resort to ad-hominem attacks, and attack the PEOPLE who are vaping, by demonizing them and portraying them as snooty or obnoxious.

Secondly, it is a simple statistical fact that because most vapers come from a general cross-section of the general population of smokers, that there will unavoidably be people who actually ARE douchebags that are becoming vapers. It's simple statistics...

And thirdly, it is a matter of the social conditioning that our culture has undergone over the last several decades. This planned agenda of social conditioning has led the general public to perceive anyone who takes the initiative, takes PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY for their own life and health, is motivated to be successful on their own outside the system, and ESPECIALLY anyone who expresses distrust or disdain for the Government and Corporate Powers as being rude, obnoxious, intolerant, and even dangerous and a "threat to the Republic".

In other words, yes, vapers are perceived as douchebags because some of them ARE douchebags. But MOSTLY it's because the public has been programmed to see anyone who is happy, healthy, and independent as a threat.

Welcome to the New American Century--where 99% of the people are serfs. And if you dare to stand up for yourself, you are a perceived to be a "........."...
