I see quite a few people who are having a problem quitting smoking via vaping. I’ve actually quit smoking 3 times, once in ’88 until ’01, ’08 until ’11 and just recently because I started vaping.

For those who can’t make the switch immediately, I have a suggestion: don’t go cold turkey on analogs if you can’t. It seems that people really beat themselves up over this, don’t! I think it would be like getting remarried the day after you get divorced, and then expecting the new spouse to have all of the good habits (read – the ones you liked) and none of the bad habits (read – the ones you didn’t like).

Instead of going cold turkey on analogs, go cold turkey on “store bought” analogs. You can buy a pound of dual purpose tobacco for anywhere from $11-26. That’s enough to make 2 cartons (you can also buy 6oz bags for less.) Get one of these babies: Amazon.com: Cigarette Maker Rolling Machine 3 Cigarette At Once: Everything Else
And 1 box of tubes. Tubes run from 2 – 4 bucks. Make your own little humidifier out of a plastic container with a sponge cut 1” by 1” sitting in a nappy dish (a lot of this stuff can sit on the shelves for a while, so it can be pretty dry).

Whenever you want an analog, make one and smoke it! Yes, you are “still smoking”, but the very most you are gonna pay for a carton of cigs is $20. I was spending about $30 a month smoking a pack a day (and no, I doubt vaping will ever “pay off” for me, but…).

All the money you save can go towards vaping. Don’t make cigs too far ahead, the beauty of the triple is that if you smoke heavy in the morning, you can quickly make 6 before your coffee is ready. (I cheated, I had an electric machine.)Now, if you want a smoke, simply make one. If you want a nearly divine smoke, get a pouch of Daughters & Ryan. Daughters & Ryan : Rollyourown.com, One Stop RYO Tobacco Shop
Ramback and Vengeur Platinum are just magnificent. Even with postage, you can still make a carton for under 20 bucks. And these are almost worth dying for! I’m not kidding! (Just get your tubes local) BTW, the pouches are usually really fresh, but the little samples can be a bit dry.

If you do this, you start thinking less about a cigarette. When you look at a pack, you want one. When you look at your gear instead, you have to decide if you want to make one first.

I made my own. I had no intention of quitting right away, but after I started vaping, I made 3 cigs. And that was because I was charging batteries! You can buy “pass throughs” to avoid that problem.

If you think it is going to be real hard, get the good stuff! That way you really enjoy the ones you do smoke. It’s better to go from a pack a day to a couple and it should help buy you time to find that perfect vape that will get you off completely!

You may now return to your scheduled programming.

I actually didn't try to quit. I was just looking for a better e-nic device to use in my car and home. After 5 days with my Triton, I just couldn't smoke anymore. The taste and smell were just too much, after vaping

That was what I found, as well. I had to quit analogs because my infant daughter couldn't handle the smell of smoke on me. She would start coughing and gagging, and I couldn't hold her anymore. I went and got my first eGo that morning, and once my wife saw the gear, she wanted one, too (non-nic, of course). We haven't looked back, except for one period where I had to do analogs because I couldn't get juice.

I started at 36mg, and I am now down to 12mg. Almost a year vaping. Very pleased with the change. And I can cuddle my little princess all I want! :)

Smoking 40 years plus. Got tired of being the golden goose to the tax man when it came to manufactured cigarettes. Started RYO (Roll Your Own). Cheaper. Then they raised the 'cigarette tobacco' tax from ~$2.50/lb to $26.00+/lb. Then the RYO manufacturers renamed their tobacco to "pipe tobacco" to stay in business. Now the government wants to have a 'loose tobacco tax' of $26.00+/lb again. So, checked out e-cigs on a recommendation on a pipe forum. Had one sitting in my shirt pocket even when smoking cigarettes. Ran out of RYO tobacco. Instead of going to the store for more, decided to give e-cigs a good try. More than a month later, haven't had a coffin nail! No shakes, jitters, desire to kill any one! Fairly painless as compared to times I tried quitting in the past. Surprised!! Pleased!! Hope the government and Big Tobacco doesn't screw this up!!!

Sometimes my mind is not my friend. In reading your excellent post OP, I found myself thinking how nice those rolled up smokes sounded. I checked out the links. It's probably just me, but I actually like vaping, not smoking, and found myself conflicted with this information. I found myself thinking, whisky, tango, foxtrot, why am I reading about a tutorial on smoking, and doing so less expensively? I didn't like the way I felt.

I want to vape. I love vaping. I don't want to smoke, or learn better ways to do so. I want to help people quit smoking and help them with their vaping issues. Probably just me, but I don't think this information belongs in the New Members Forum. Just my little rant and two cents. I wish you the very best. Now, stop smoking and start vaping! Save a life. More power, stronger juice, better gear....that's the way I did it.

the post is for those who can't quit analogs, and beat themselves up for it.

so the suggestion is to quit "store boughts" first, while attempting vaping.

then reduce RYOs, while attempting vaping.

then just vape...

I agree with this on one hand, BUT I also agree that cold turkey is not the answer for everyone. Some people do it magically, and some need some time to "say goodbye". I fall into the last group. :) It took me 6 months, but eventually I hit the point where I knew I could do it, so I did. My advice is (if you are one of those that doesn't "magically" quit after the first vape), is to keep at it.

I was spending about $30 a month smoking a pack a day (and no, I doubt vaping will ever “pay off” for me, but…).

I thought that, too. Same advice - keep at it. It took me a year and some change, but even with flip-flopping (cigalike, KGO, cigalike, eGo/KGO, Provari, Silver Bullet, and Provape-1), I hit the broke even point. As of today, I'm over $200 in the black. If it helps you, keep track in an Excel spreadsheet. It's kind of exciting watching your expenses, and seeing your negative slowly go to a positive number. :)

I think the biggest trap people fall into is getting that "I'm quitting" mentality going and, that makes it feel like you are depriving yourself of something you want or need.

No you are not quitting anything, you are simply changing how you smoke, like upgrading form a rotary dial phone to a touch tone, or a voice and text only cell phone to a smart phone, that's all, just modernizing how you get your nic fix, getting with the age of technology is all, not quitting.

And before you know it, you will realize, you don't smoke - you did quit smoking without even trying.

I went to RYO years ago after ready-made cigs became way too expensive for me. I also made the switch to pipe tobacco when the taxes were raised on cigarette tobacco and I'm not surprised to hear that they're looking to jack up the taxes on that as well. Even though I'm an ex-smoker now (I hope), I wish they'd just leave tobacco users the hell alone for a change.

I started vaping with no intention of quitting cigs completely; originally, I only vaped in my car. But my tobacco use tapered down so quickly, to a point where I was smoking fewer than 5 per day (after 32 years of 20-30 cigs daily) and one day I got up and didn't bother to roll any cigs before I left for work. I filled some cartos instead.

I don't intend to get rid of my Top-o-Matic or the half-bag of tobacco and half-box of filter tubes I still have. If I ever really want a cigarette, I'll roll one and smoke it without guilt. But I just haven't wanted one.

I didn't really want to quit smoking. But I have a newborn at home and my girlfriend nagging about my smoking. Making funny faces everytime I came inside after smoking, waving her arms and making weird noises. So with this I thought, what the hell, I'll give it a shot, atleast it might help me smoke less.

I did smoke 3 cigarettes the very same day I started vaping, but haven't smoked since that and been almost 3 weeks now. I do feel the craving for a smoke every now and then but I try to resist and vape some extra at given moment. Worked so far! Good luck to all you quitters out there!

Vaping isn't smoking. And it's our right to vape! :D

I started RYO as a way to cut back on analogs but it didn't work. I thought if I was inconvenienced enough I'd cut down but I just ended up buying better rolling machines. I wish I had some advise for those having trouble even with vaping but the day I got a decent E-cig (better than gas station disposable) is the day I last smoked a regular cigarette. It's strange....it's not like I have extraordinary will power or anything. It just worked without thinking about it. Maybe I was just that done with analogs and vaping gave me a way out.

I know and I understand. Since you are floating "concepts" here on an important issues, I wanted to provide a counter point for discussion purposes. It did make me feel uncomfortable, and took me four years to quit the analogs after discovering vaping. People need to think, take action, consider all sides. I hope we both provided some food for thought. Anyway, quit smoking and start vaping full time. YOU CAN DO IT! All the best to you!

im finding it hard to just vape and not smoke normal cigs but if I did what you said id end up just smokeing lol. I still smoke a normal cig in the morning for the buzz and odd relaspe but I know i want to quit so I will, once im used to vapeing ill not need anything but my ecig and favorite juice lol.

because if I had enough gear to make a cartoon id just say to myself ill try to give up once its done and then the cycle begins again.

I took Zyban back in '04 and quit analongs fairly easily... that is untill I was no longer taking Zyban. I did great for the better part of a year - the occasional struggle when I was out with friends for a few cocktails but, since smoking was banned in bars around the same time, it was easier.

One day I was out drinking while on vacation where smoking wasn't banned in bars, I decided I wanted a cigarette. So, I asked someone for one, and then another, and another. Then I felt like a jerk bumming smokes so I bought a pack. I'll quit again tomorrow - after a year I've got to be as cool as all my friends who only smoke when they drink, right?

I finally re-quit well, look at the banner below. I doubt I'd have done it if it wasn't for vaping.
