Well go figure this one out. I was just showing a customer at work (also a vaper) my RA and what does he do? pokes my wick with his finger and breaks my wire! i looked at him shocked and he goes, "oh, sorry about that one bud." Sorry doesn't give me all of yesterday afternoon back!

I received my RATank yesterday, oxidized my 400 SS mesh, and hooked up a triple coil. I too had hot wires to the post until I pulled all the slack out of the wire and the mesh was touching the posts. This is my first genesis build and spare for a few hotwire thoat thrashings, it turned out pretty well. I had to mix my juice about 50/50 pg/vg, which seems to preserve a great throat hit and vapor combo. The flavor is fantastic. I get more Vapor from my viv nova, but now the flavor on that one seems mute in comparison. I'm not sue what guage wire came with the RATank, but I wonder if we used higher resistance wire, if this would keep the hot spots down without having to make the mesh lie directly on the posts?
Riptrippers did a review on katthal 28 awg and says that eliminated the hot spots. The review was under rebuildable atomisers on this forum.

, i used 3 wraps, of kanthal 32 a1 wire from mountainoak, ss mesh 400, and it tastes totally wicked, doesn't hurt my throat like the first build i did, and tons of vapor, i like it, alot

I rebuilt my RAT cause I had a fold over in the mesh, and my top post kept getting hot spots. I used the double wick technique fro Rip Trippers video and now the SS mesh does'nt kink when it is bent over to get close to the posts. Seems to be working quite well at this time, I was able to pull the mesh right up to the posts. I think I wrapped four times and it produces a ton of vapor with a good throat hit. I also checked into the 28 guage wire, I could not find any Kanthal 28, so I ordered 28 Nichrome as well as 30 Nichrome. Gonna try to do an 8 or 10 wrap on the RAT. I expect a fog machine, we'll see.
Just had to let everyone in on an idea i had today.
In order to eliminate the unpocketfriendlyishness of this thing i grabbed a small hose clamp off my homemade hookah (better flavor on the RAT anyways.) And tightened it down around the top cap connection and the delrin between top cap and tank section.
NO MORE CONSTANTLY WALKING CAREFULLY TO KEEP IT IN ONE PIECE! works great, i hope this helps somebody out!

Pounder, the 28 guage Nichrome is 4.25 ohm/ft as opposed to the 32G which is 10.6 ohm/ft. So basically I will have to put 3 inches of wire on mesh just to get 1ohm out of it. Thankfully the wire is thicker, and should be easier to work with. I will have to do some serious riggin to get this right. I just ordered a VV gripper from Madvapes this weekend to check my ohms on the coils before firing. I tried with my multimeter, and could have been operator error, but could not get it to read ohms accurately. Anyway, any excuse to order more gear, and justify it means a Happy vaper. If it works out I will try to post some pics later this week/weekend.
C-note. I'm no stranger to modding, but just got into rebuildables last week with this RATank and a Phoenix. I have to say this is a whole new ballgame. I got a crap load of LR cartos in the closet, and I will probably never use them again. You are gonna love this thing.
I'm hoping it's a game changer for me, my dual coil tank is inconsistent due to the smoktech cartos. Also I can only use 100%pg liquid or else i would have to punch the cartos which i am not a fan of doing.
Loose coil.....
if your using mesh the coil MUST be tight ..... even one slightly loose wrap and youll be vaping kanthal, this happened when i first set mine up.... flavor and vapor was good but had hellish TH. Rewrap coil tighter and check for hotspots/hot coil legs.
I know you seem to have fixed this problem, just wanted to add this info incase it might help others

Got some 28 & 30 guage nichrome in yesterday, and attempted a build. I will just have to say I'm glad that wire was cheap cuz it sucked .... 30G was okay, but may be the low amps on my faux lavatube. When I made my 28G coil with many many many wraps, all I managed was a small fart from the thing. was truly pathetic. I need to get in touch with RipTrippers and see what the secret recipe is.
anyone know what i can substitute for the very top cap, friggin lost mine yesterday and can't find it
