I got a Mad Hatter yesterday and have some REALLY newb questions about how to use the darn thing. Once I get to wicking/coiling I'll ask about those if I don't see the answers already . I'm running a single coil Kanthol .7ohms (actual but it was supposed to be .06 .close enough for a first time) and an ileaf 40Wtc .sweet spot seems between 18-22 watts so far. Organic cotton ball wick.
Here goes.
Is it normal after it's been sitting for about an hour , or more, to get only air for a couple of seconds until the juice draws up from the well? Is it better, when not being used to put it vertically or lay it on its side? Going from top feeders to bottom feeders on tanks some wicks seemed to hold the juice better vertically, some horizontally is why I ask. I was using cotton yarn with them for the most part.
What do you keep your juices for dripping in? One of the reasons for going rda for me was I love changing flavors frequently during the day and don't mind a couple of hits where flavors mix, actually found when going from a strawberry lemonade to another fruits with a hint of menthol that strawberry leave lemonade with a hint of menthol is pretty tasty as a change up. I've got 1 plastic juice holder with a needle tip and a Ucan in the mail but I'd like to have about 4 flavors easy to get dripped that are easy to do. I'm not really high on the plastic ones because they seem so fragile. Is there a better carrier than the Ucan or is that still the forum favorite? For my other flavors I'm using the dropper from the bottle they came it but that is a bit cumbersome for me. Sort of along that line, how many drops do you use on average per refill? Yesterday I tried going by sight of the wick looking saturated and kept making a heck of a mess. Today I'm trying 7 drops (3 on each side of the coil, right at the coil, and 1 directly on the coil) and get about 12-15 draws per fill using several ratio mixes from 50/50 to 70vg/30pg. Does that sound about right for number of drops, placement, etc?
The flavor increase is so far has been phenomenal and unless I'm driving I really haven't felt a need to switch over to a tank. I've got some ego1 tc tanks with titanium wicks I use for tanks, if that helps any, that I used before getting the MH. They put out some very good flavor and cloud and the nicotine seems to do its thing much better than my old style tanks but the dripper has taken that stuff to a whole new level.
My goal at this point is smoking cessation and I don't want any of my equipment to be an excuse to pick up a cigarette is why I'm asking these newb, overly simple, questions. I've looked at videos, this forum, Reddit, etc and these were obviously too simplistic, perhaps they should be common sense.
If there's any obvious questions I've forgotten to ask about using the rda I'll appreciate them being brought up as well. Like I said before, I'll ask stuff about building somewhere else when it comes time to build and wick. I bought a pre built 4 pack of coils and wicks, with the topper at my local vape shop, to get me started so if I can't grasp building I've got something I can just pop in until I get better at building. They offer a free learn how to build class there and I plan on attending as many as I can as my work schedule allows.
Thanks for all your help.
