I'm a bit lazy with my re-wicking. Especially RTAs. Usually leave it until it's a bit past due.

I'd be interested to know how many of you have a timetable for changing wicks or do you just base it on flavour or maybe the number of refills of the tank or squonk bottle?

Do you do it in batches of attys or one at a time when needed?

Mostly by flavor, when the flavor of the e-liquid starts to taste ''muddled'' i just twist the base and take a peek to see the color of the cotton.

If I'm not busy i will lay down my vaping mat (old pillow case),take out my tools and do a fresh rewick.

Currently using a sub-ohm tank and a RTA but before i used 2 RTA for the 2 different e-liquids i used.
In that case i did a fresh rewick on both attys, once all my wicking and cleaning apparatus are on my desk it's just an extra 5 minutes so might as well.

I check the coil with a flashlight inside the rta :p ....I don't own many attys only 3 but I rewick all to together and then usually need rewick at same time cause of rotation...if not i rewick the one that needs...

I'm an OCD rewicking work in progress

RDAs: Usually I do all 4 at once every 3-4 days. Unless I've forgotten to squonk and toast a wick.

RTAs: I like fresh wicking and the OCD thing, so I rewick an RTA every 2-3 days. Out of the 6 RTAs I'm using, I do 2 or 3 at a time. When I do 5 or 6 together, I tend to cut off fingers and mix up juices.

I can't see the wick in my tanks without taking them apart, which disturbs them so I would have to replace them anyway.

I have a Word table with a line for each tank showing when I last replaced wicks and coils. I've got 9 so I replace them after 2 weeks. Sooner if a tank starts to taste bad. I have a couple of mixes that gunk up a coil quickly so I know to do them sooner..

Mostly do 2 or 3 at a time. More than that I get bored and start making mistakes. Sometimes I sit down at the kitchen table and wrap a bunch of coils. I used to replace the wicks six times for a coil, now that's down to three times.

I can tell by flavor mostly. When it just starts tasting off, I vape heavy flavors (that clog wicks) like chocolate or coffee until the wick is basically useless, then rewick. I just do them as needed (one at a time) For me wicking is easy but I have to move my laptop, plug in a small lamp, ect... prepping my "workspace" takes longer than doing the work (and then have to put everything back) Don't have any other place to do it (in my bedroom... it's not my house) In the summer, tried working out on the patio... windy and people kept interrupting me. By the way, I have some Dollar store reading glasses (3 x) that help so much.
Sometimes with my RTAs, I want to switch flavors so vape some unflavored in between the switch. If I see dark crap seeping from the wick back into the tank, I know it's time to rewick anyway.

I base it on flavor and performance. If I can run a million gallons on a coil/wick without loss of flavor or performance, that would be a desirable situation.

Usually one at a time when needed but sometimes may do batches.

I rewick only as needed (when I detect an "off" taste), which is quite rare in my ADV squonker because I run straight unflavored liquid in it and use rayon exclusively.

What's "quite rare"? It has been working out to about once every three months over the last year.

I keep saying that I'm going to make some unflavored juice just to see if it's something I could live with. I've been using the same tobacco flavor for about six years. It's pretty light colored, but it still gunks up my coils after a while.

When I'm not at work, I use a True MTL RTA. After three or four weeks, it starts turning my juice dark. It doesn't affect the flavor too much, so I ignore it for a while. After I dump out dark juice a couple of times, I finally rebuild and rewick.

Off topic, but I recently mixed some 50/50 flavored but for some reason, even though I like flavored sweet juices, I couldn't stand vaping unflavored with the natural sweetness of the VG. For some reason it grossed me out.

Slightly different question on a similar tangent
Is there any reason why you should change your cotton before it starts tasting bad on an RTA/RDA, I'm sometimes just in a rewicking mood but I can't help but think the only reason for a rewick is taste alone

To me when the flavour changes then it's already very gunky on the coil and I pull the cotton out to rewick it and see the cotton that was inside the coil it's just a bit dark/yellowish and I am fine with that....one time I left it more just to see how it will be and all that gunky and kinda burned cotton and stuff I saw on rewick made me feel like I was vaping something that wasn't good....
It's like I feel the fresher you have your cotton the "healthier" the vape will be...
Propably just in my head but I have 3 attys only and the wicking is very fast and easy now so why not... Cotton is cheap :p

just change wicks when I start losing flavor. I vape a lot of sweet juice so it’s usually about a week and a half. I have several mods in rotation so I’ll just grab another one if I’m being lazy lol!

For me, and bear in mind I prefer a fresh wick over a well seasoned one:

I'm trying to prevent the drop-off in flavour ----> the burnt wick taste. And that is the main reason why I rewick early. That, and a compulsion to do so
