READYxWICK for non cotton people

Based on everything I've read here, I bought a foot of 2mm and 3mm. I don't know what I am doing wrong, but no matter what I do, I end up with a foul, throat burning vape. Smells and tastes worse than cotton getting burnt. I started with 2mm first and couldn't get it to taste good. Figured maybe it wasn't getting enough liquid, so went to 3mm. I've wrapped microcoils, spaced coils, wrapping with a mandrel or bit inserted, wrapping first and threading the wick in, it's all the same. And no matter what, the flavor of the liquid just isn't there either. I've squonked, even flooded the deck, plugging up the air hole and let the liquid soak the wick. I might get on short hit, then nasty again. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like the wick could be too tight. After I get the 2mm R/W threaded into my 1.5mm coil it will slide back and forth fairly easily. Not too loose and not tight enough to deform the coil. Then I put some eliquid directly on the coil and wick and burn it. I do this 2 or 3 times. Then I put the cap on and it's ready to squonk and vape. The preliminary juicing and burning eliminates having to let it soak. I got that tip from the RBA Supplies website.

Also if the wick fits too loosely that could cause a lack of flavor as well. I am tension wrapping my coils with the Wire Gizmo and leaving a little spacing between the coils as I wrap it. Hope that helps. I haven't experienced any of what you have described.

I just might have this issue fixed. Right now, I have 3mm wick wrapped with 3/4 spaced 28ga for .5 +/_. I did the wrapping with the larger mandrel on my dz jig. I had not done the liquid/burn steps, but did squonk and flood, actually holding my finger on the air hole, letting as much juice get on the wick as possible. After a whole day of trying and still tasting nasty, I took the top off to check and see if it was too loose, tight, or whatever I could find. The one thing I did notice, after reading a post on here yesterday, was that the fluid hole side of the wick was a little long and actually over the hole a little bit. I pulled the wick more towards the other side, and it moved just fine, not too loose or too tight. Put it back together, and all of a sudden, flavor! I can't believe just 2 or 3 mm shift in the wick can produce such a difference. I'm going to leave it alone now and use it until I really have to replace the wick or the coil. I'm going to try the 2mm in my other RM2s. I'll do the soak and burn routine, and pay strict attention to positioning of the wick too.

Less wick is more with these I've found. since we are bottom feeding and can soak the wick with a bottle push they don't need to be long. Mine only stick past the coil by an 1/8" or less.

Mine might have been closer to 1/4", which is ok on the other side of the coil, but not on the fluid feed hole side, for sure. I'm going to try this stuff on a couple of top drippers I have to see how this works, too. I'm going to also set up my other RM2s. If I get this down right, I'll be happy not having to change my cotton wicks out every day or two.

THis has been working for me. I added a couple of wraps of 28 gauge wire after getting my rebuild kit. 1.2 ohm. Yes I like my coils low to the base below the air hole. Coil made on a 16 gauge luer. Notice the tapered end of the RxW. Tapering the tip and wetting the wick with juice aids in inserting the wick through the coil. Once you can get the tip of the wick inside the coil a rotating motion on the wick makes it slide in easily.

so i recoiled a few of my reos. they look a lot like Itrainer's ^ with a few more wraps. all 1.3 ohm done on a 1/16" jeweler screwdriver. threaded/screwed in the wick. squonked a bunch, burned a bunch, and could vape it right away with no icky taste. i think my only concern is that i feel like it doesn't hold as much liquid as cotton did. but others have said the opposite. i'm an avid over squonker, and mostly blind squonk, but feel like i may not be getting enough liquid to the wick, and have had a few dry hits-ick. any more helpful hints?! i'm looking forward to not having to change wicks every day....!

bleh, edit. i seem to now be getting more burny tastes than i did with cotton :/ tried dry burning it, and ended up accidentally pulling out the wick, and it was all burned up... put cotton back in /sigh.

I've stopped using this for a while, since I'm changing flavors so often. I found that with very short wicks and a gunky juice they were literally falling apart with a dry burn, and I couldn't get rid of the previous flavor.

I think it will be awesome once I keep the same flavor in the RM2 for a while, but I'm not sure with a very compressed coil and a tiny wick that they're my favorite - although I agree they are terrific on that first vape, as long as I remember to squonk often (I also had the issue of getting some nasty dry hits).

One of the things I like about RXW is that if you forget to squonk all that happens is a little bad taste. Do that with cotton and it burns in half and you get a REALLY bad taste!

If they are falling apart with dry burns then the wire is wrapped too tight around the wick. Dry burning should do nothing except clean the wick.

Looks like I'll have to revisit some of the tips you all are posting. I tried for 2 days but ended up going back to silica wick after poor vapor production (not a cloud chaser) and very muted flavor.

So were mine. I dry burn them and have never had one fall apart. Did you get yours from RBA supplies?

Just tried readyxwick and that's it. By far the best wick I have ever tried. This stuff makes ekowool look like a walmart product. Aside from that they send me a pack of skittles with my order and I am a sucker for candy. Search is over readyxwick it is

Im well over a month on one of my coils dry burning until it bursts into flames every few days. Still dry burns to white and is performing great.

After 6+ weeks I decided it was time to make new coils and re-wick. Now that I have the SO kits installed I ventured into the land of big ugly coils. Ok I have issues and even my ugly coils need to be evenly spaced somewhat….lol

I used a 2.5mm mandrel 4 wraps (not overly tight) 28g and it turns in at .7ohm on my meter. I doubled over the 2mm RxW and it inserted fine into the coil without any issues. I cut off the tip on the end that was doubled over. The vape is clean, taste amazing and I do not have to squonk as often as a same ohm coil in 1/16 diameter.

If you are not having success with RxW then keep trying. The RxW has really been a game changer for me on every RBA in the stable when used in my REOs.
