tmel, something I've noticed when I'm dry burning and this could just be me experiencing this, but one side of my dual coils always starts to glow before the other side. I've noticed it always seems to be the side that gets more air (the airhole that's facing away from my face) that burns first. It almost seems like the airhole that's nearest my face seems to produce a more gunked up coil on that side. I'm thinking it's an airflow thing and not an RxW thing. But like I said it could just be me.

Im thinking the "lower coil" near face would get gunked up faster as that is the juice accumulates as you tilt to vape? If the atty is level when you squonk then go to vape extra juice would flow to that side. just my 2cents!

WTH?

Fraying, falling apart, black burnt etc etc.

As so many others, I have NONE of that at all.

BTW, there is a ton of info here how to properly dry burn this stuff. If the wick is not in the coil you can torch it to the point of no return and no harm done. If the wick is in the coil you have to dry burn it in an on/off/on/off fashion and blow on the coil at all times, otherwise the wire will literally eat its way through the now dry wick.

Cutting - watch the video on the RBA web site. If your material behaves differently from what you see there, something is not right and you should contact the seller.

Cheers.

How do you guys take care of this stuff? I've gone through my combo pack already.

I had the 3mm RxW in dual 7/64 26G coils and it started to taste weird after a day. I rinsed it and dry burned the coil with the RxW still inside.

One of my coils was glowing and the other was not at all, the RxW got pretty black on the one that was glowing. I took the RxW out and both coils glowed evenly and at the same time, maybe the other wick still had liquid/water in it?

After I took my RxW out, torched the black off and tried to put it back in and it just frayed and fell apart on me. :(

I am now using the same coils, but I threaded 2 pieces of 2mm RxW in each coil and it seems to be working OK. I am just afraid of whats going to happen when cleaning time comes again.

Ordered 2 feet of 3mm RxW as it's what I prefer I think, just need to learn how to snip it properly so it doesn't fray on me I guess. :/

I had the same problem as you with the 3mm and I think that is the reason I don't use it anymore. It seemed like it took forever to dry burn and I know that wasn't good for my device or the batteries. I think it also had something to do with the diameter coils I was using, (3/32"), with it. Never tried with a 7/64" bit as yet, but when my 24g and 26g arrive I think I will try it again. I will also add that I have never rinsed my coils prior to dry burning. Just doesn't make sense to me to add water to a coil with all the crap the water in this town has in it...

I think another reason I had problems with the 3mm was I had it wrapped in spaced coils. I know there are a few people that have had good results with spaced, I am not one of them. I can feel a difference in the vape between spaced and tensioned coils. They just don't vape the same, imo... I have dry burned the 2mm in a 1/16" spaced coil and it didn't go well either, so that would rule out the diameter for me as well. Spaced coils just aren't for me.

Penny, you hit the nail on the head right here. It would be better if you placed your coils facing the front door and back of the device for vaping as I do and you will notice they dry burn more evenly, because they vape more evenly. I have a tendency to vape with the button facing up and forward because I mainly vape left handed. It is just easier to squonk with my left hand, middle finger, for me. It's the only thing really in my life I do left handed...I'm right handed on everything else...

I guess I'm going to have to use an o-ring and see if I can't get my airholes facing the door and back because I haven't been able to without one on my authentics. It's something I've been putting up with and just haven't taken the time to try the o-ring. I'm a lefty vaper with the button facing down but I squonk with my my right middle finger. I guess I gotta have both hands involved lol!

Just a note to throw out there. I had been using only 2mm until I sat down today try out the 3mm. The 3mm definitely frays more than the 2mm when you cut it.

Ok, just watched the vid over at RBA and learned that I've been cutting my wick at an angle that is considered a no-no. My angle has been much to steep. My steep angle has been working well with the 2mm but apparently is not good at all for the 3mm.

Thanks everyone!

I really prefer the larger diameter 3mm, so just to re-cap...I need to review the correct snipping angle and when I do dry burn it, I need to pulse for 1-2 seconds then blow and continue.

Would rinsing the coils/atty/RxW in water after dry burning be a bad idea? I'd then have to dry burn again to get the water out.

Think the thing I am learning is that the 3mm will fray much easier and I need to be gentle with it in my Odin and snip it properly...

Guess I'll have re-learn how to dry burn something. I am just afraid that with using 3mm, I'll wick it, I'll dry burn it, it'll get black and flavor will be off. I then need to take it out and torch it and then if I take it out, it's going to fall apart on me and fray etc.

You need not take it out to torch. I just pulse dry burn until coil is clean then just take my butane pipe lighter and torch the wick while its still in the coil and on the atty. just pass over a few times until wick is white again. have not damaged posts, atty or mod using this method, no rinsing/water required.

^^^^ That. I never take mine out for any reason....and I never get it wet with water, either. And they last forever.

To those of you who rinse please don't take offense. Whatever works for everybody stay with what you feel comfy doing. Not saying any right or wrong way just the way I prefer. Using my little pipelighter is just sooooo easy! Just like in the RDX wick video the stuff gets white as can be and very few "passes" as the wick is not as bad as the black wick in video if you do on somewhat regular basis. I have not, repeat, not damaged any of my decks or posts on my atties with this quick torch method.

And then a small voice from the peanut gallery....

Both 2 and 3mm RXW.
I build coils sized so I can screw the wick in and out.

Remove wick, rinse in hot water, blot dry with paper towel, finish with a Bic style lighter to remove remaining water and any black areas.
Dry burn coil, re-insert wick and go.

I've done this many many times with a 2mm wick that's going on 2 months of steady use, no degradation.
The one 3mm wick I'm playing with is holding up well after a few rounds of this treatment also.

Heading back to the gallery now (-;

Guess I'm just lazy and like quick & easy. For me its easier to just torch it a couple seconds and all done vs taking out wick, rinsing, drying, rethreading. Also don't know what advantage rinsing with water has over burning off impurities.

I have been looking into readyxwick for sometime, but can't seem to justify the price compared to silica. What are the true benefits of this wick versus silica?

ReadyX vs Silica??? No comparison. I recommend start at beginning of thread and read.
Price?? 1ft roll will cost you 8.99 and last you a year!!! That's the price of 1 pack of stinkies.
