I would say the best way to know is to buy direct or from a reputable supplier. You can check the supplier section of the forum to see who's on that list. I personally avoid most things on ebay, but maybe that's just me, I dont have much experience with ebay so I avoid the unknown hahah. If you're looking to buy from local shops I'd ask around to see if anybody can recommend them or not. Yelp might be useful? I'm not aware of any good resources for spotting fakes. Maybe somebody else can chime in on that.

I'm not a noob anymore, but I'd like to see a blog on this with pictures. There are a lot of discussions in the clearomizer forum about fake clearos and "clones" - especially from fasttech. I would peruse those.

See that's my whole issue. I don't mind supporting my local businesses, but if they're buying knockoffs from fasttech and trying to pass them on to me the consumer, as legit items, at 3 or 4 times what they paid that's where I have a problem. I'm sure some places around me carry legit gear and I'm sure other are selling knockoffs to make a quick buck. I'm just trying to educate myself.

I would ask if the local stores are legit Innokin, Kanger, Vision or Joyetech dealers - that might give you an idea of the validity of their products. Most of the real stuff has the logo on it. Fasttech does carry real Innokin products despite what Innokin says. Stay away from the "CE#" clearos - they're junk. I think they carry real Kamry stuff too. But locally, most stores are getting all of this from China, why not save by eliminating the middle man?

First off welcome! I'm pretty new here too.

+1 on this good advice. There is SO much good info here, that the worst thing someone can do is rush out, buy crap, get frustrated and then go back to cigs. Read. Watch reviews. Theres even reviews for knock-offs or "clones," as some are as good if not better than the originals, especially with the price break. Learn the big vendors products mscomp referred to. So you can spot the junk.

Yes, Fasttech has authentic gear and clones. Some products are clones, as the original makers aren't around anymore. The Vamo from Fasttech is the same Vamo here in the States. It's a clone...but so is everything else. The Innokin's are authentic. I have purchased the iTaste 3.0, the SVD, three Vamo's, a KTS and K100 from Fasttech. All authentic. The evods come in packs of 7 and 10, I think, and while not Kanger's, they're made in the same Factory in Shenzhen, China, but the heads are not. So, I get the evods from Fasttech and the heads from US dealers. In five packs you can get them for about $5 - 6. I rebuild now, so I spend about a dime a piece. Many YouTube videos on doing this, I'm all thumbs, and I can do it. Four strikeouts, then went 12 for 14 on my first rebuilds of the evod and Protank.

I've had good luck with the DCT tanks from Fasttech, the X8, the cobra clone, some RDA's, the Innokin UCan, and the Nitecore I4 charger. The Panasonic batteries are good, and many vets order from them, though you can get them today on Amazon for about the same price. Except for the very high end gear, all our vaping supplies are made in China. Fasttech is just a large distributor of small electronics, and other than a two week delivery delay, they're one-half to one-third the price for the exact same US Vendor equipment, and unlike US vendors, they do take PayPal. Fasttech makes some cheap gear and I don't buy those. But I've spent about $700 and I think I have everything I want from them now except for the V3 telescoping mod, some pyrex DCT tanks, and maybe some more Panasonic CGR18650Ch batts, and maybe even the Kamry 200 and Innokin MVP. But that's it. I'm done with them. A good start, though, wouldn't you say?

My next evolution will be to some higher end gear, tanks, RBA's, a Semovar, etc. I continue to love this amazing Journey. Welcome to the Forum, good luck, happy shopping, Power UP and Vape On!

There is tons of fake equipment in Canada, batteries, tanks, and vaporizers. Try and research as much as you can cause it's all out there

Hello neighbors!

Is there a website or sticky that can show me real products vs fake? Like how to spot a fake vivi nova or whatever else. Generally I like to buy genuine products and am questioning some of the products my local vendors are selling.

One of the easiest ways to tell is the brand name is never actually used on the clones, a protank VS a Kanger protank, a Vision vivi nova VS a vivi nova its not always foolproof but very rarely do the makers of a clone push their luck that far.

http://www.joyetech.com/about/copycat.php?nation=US

Check for authorized dealers as well

Joyetech brand offline electronic cigarette shops

this list while helpful doesnt really mean anything, if a dealer is caught selling joyetech under the fixed price they will be added to the unauthorized dealer list.

1. Know what you're buying. Some clones are actually better than the original.
2. Many Vendors both here in N. America and China sell knockoffs. I only have a problem with that if they attempt to hide the fact they're knockoffs/ mislabeled.
In regards to Vendors buying from FastTech there's much better deals to be had price wise for ALL vape gear. If they're in the Ecig biz they'd better know where to purchase their gear at wholesale price otherwise profits will be marginal.
Ask around here at ECF...chances are someone has bought a particular item and will be able to answer your Q's.
The bottom line is with vaping the research NEVER stops and that's why I'm never too quick to jump on the bandwagon when a new product or lower priced product comes out.
