I had a problem with a priority mail package not leaving Florida last week. On the USPS website you can fill out a form and have them research it for you. There is a certain number of business days before you can use it. They call you from your local post office within 2 days and surprse, surprise the package was found and delivered ASAP.

Processed through Sort Facility, July 22, 2011, 9:33 am, JAMAICA, NY 11430
Processed through Sort Facility, July 20, 2011, 6:52 pm, FLUSHING, NY 11351
Shipment Accepted, July 20, 2011, 4:44 pm, WHITESTONE, NY 11357
Electronic Shipping Info Received, July 19, 2011

So it's moving, just really slow.

I feel for ya spivey,

I was just talking about this last week on another thread. I said I have had 7-8 issues since Feb. well call it 8-9 now. there is a package that has been stuck in PA since last wed. That makes today 7 days in one sort facility.

Last week I had one go out for delivery in the wrong town and thats not the first time. It keeps getting worse.

The usps is being left behind and dying. :(

USPS has been bleeding money for years, with these tiny Post Offices in these tiny towns that make no money at all .. paying folks large salaries to sit there all day long and basically do nothing ..

At least Uncle Sam has not stepped in with another bailout on the backs of the tax payer .. if the USPS were a privately run business, it would have had to downsize years ago ..

The Reef just off the Florida coast
The USPS deliveries were just fine until GotVapes overloaded them with Sapphires.

I find it interesting that a package from Oklahoma City and one from Oakland, CA got here to Central Florida before another package from South Florida. All received by USPS the same day. And one from NYC took another 2 days. They are GREAT considering the cost. But there is no consistency.

Just had a long talk with the manager at my usps, nice guy. He said that yes things have been bad lately, postions have been merged, regular post men are now delivering international as well, so they have extra work, other shifts and jobs are still being merged and that changes have beeen being made for the last month, he said things should get better soon as the changes settle in, luckily none of the shutdowns affected anything in new york. he did say changes are happening all across the us even though not everyone is affected certain areas are.

Just to let everyone know:

Each of you can do something about this Saurday closing nonsense if you contact either by phone or email or written letter and tell your Senators and Representative you oppose this move. THEY PAY ATTENTION WHEN THEY GET FLOODED BY THEIR CONSTITUENCY. DO IT BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.

I worked for the Post office for 13 years and I do know a few things that are going on behind the scenes.

The USPS actually comes out in the black EVERY year and does it solely based on stamp revenues. What caused some of the troubling financial situations is that just a few years ago Congress mandated that they have to pay future retirement benefits yearly now for up to 75 years. No other government or private institution has ever been saddled with this. I have a feeling they did this so that it could provide an extra revenue stream for other social programs, just as they raid the social security reserve fund every year for the general budget.

This amounts to a 5 to 7 BILLION dollar payment they have to make every May and it immediately sinks them into the RED.

Contact those I mentioned and tell them to stop this nonsense. Corporate interests I am sure are cheering all of this on (through lobbyists and 'friendly' politicians as they would benefit the most (i.e. UPS and FedEX) with any dismantling of the United States Postal Service, certainly a venerable institution that serves the common interest of us all.
