The health risks involved in over oxidizing ss wicks are still inconclusive and disputed. Aside from that, many of us have determined it to be unnecessary. The old method of torching to orange hot, quenching, repeating, juice burning several times, etc. is counterproductive. All it does is produce a brittle wick which is prone to shorts, and poor flavor. Most people today are either minimally oxidizing, by torching the piece of mesh slightly, before rolling, or not oxidizing at all, prior to rolling, and using mechanical mods to 'pulse' oxidize the wick, only in the area under the coil. It's generally agreed upon that this is the best method; but is difficult to do with protected mods. The point is, the least oxidation you can do, and still accomplish an evenly heating coil, the better.
There are other folks that are working with various types of ceramic wicks, thus eliminating the ss mesh altogether. This is fairly new, and somewhat still in the experimental stage. But devotees are reporting excellent results.

well i tried the unoxidised one on my aga-t2 as my first real genesis build. Saw alot of vids. Started by using a lighter on the mesh, nothing more. Rolled it. And started pulsing on a twist battery with 3.2v and kept doing it till i had a nice evenly glowing coil. Have made 5 wicks (just to try out different types of mesh), and all done on the same way. It just works for me. I have no mechanical mods, just an evic, and a variety of joye ego devices. It takes me around 5 minutes to get an even glowing coil (not that i really time it) I am using 32/30 awg kanthal 4/5 wraps, and I am in heaven. I did try some hybrid wicks in my phoenix rba, but only got very harsh hits, and did not really like it. All I can say is I get a very smooth vape this way, and I like it, flavor is great

Sounds like you've done your homework, and are on the right track. That's about the way I do mine. I lightly torch the mesh before rolling. Mostly for the purpose of getting any manufacturing residue off the mesh.

So just oxidizing around the area where coil is warped is what people are doing? heat up the mesh and roll and oxidizing coil area? These r the steps.. Thanks for replies

Thats how I do it, I do use a drillbit to wrap my coil. And then I roll my mesh so i can just squeeze it in, its not too tight, but it's not completely loose. There is a video by Petar K for the drillbit, it's also referred to as the Petar K method. And I believe he also has a video on unoxidised mesh

For me this works greatly
- wrap a coil with a drillbit, fire it up a couple of times, so you are certain it's glowing evenly
- use a ligher on the mesh
- start rolling
- keep trying to fit it in, if it doesn't fit, roll a bit tighter
- if it fits and it's not too loose, i start pulsing slowly and then over time going with bigger hits
- if the coil glows evenly, fill up the tank, and put a couple of drops on the wick itself
- vape

I've also read some people just torch the top area, where the coil is going to be. There are dozens of variatons you can find on ECF, you just got to find something I guess that works for you
