Cappy...perhaps a dehumidifier would help you? I would DEFINITELY be owning me one of those in a climate such as yours anyway. I have one that I use in the winter months because I heat with propane, which is a moist heat, and too much moisture causes a lot of condensation, which equals to mold growth along the baseboards in my place..grrrr.

Actually, I usually run a humidifier at home. The constant running of the AC dries out the air pretty bad, especially at night when were trying to sleep. But during a storm like this it suddenly shoots up in humidity but as soon as the storm passes it will drop back down to normal. I find a higher humidity also seems to help us fight summer allergy problems. I never had a sinus headache until I moved to Florida, they are not fun.

My mom was originally from Louisiana and I know all to well about the humidity in the south (never going anywhere that DIDN'T have AC)! We lived most of our lives in Wisconsin and she always suffered from sinus headaches as long as I can remember. Well, after she retired, she decided to move back "home" and I don't know how she could stand it. Now, I don't know if she still suffered as much from the headaches cuz' I didn't live there...but I can't imagine that they could have gotten BETTER.

Blast! Well, I started making the electronics up to get ready for when the mods are done drying, and ran outta solder!

I had my youngest son run down to Home depot and he brought back solder only good for repairing copper pipes and told me it was the only stuff useable on electronics.

I will have to run down to Radio Shack or a local electronics parts store tomorrow for enough to finish the batch till I can order a spool of it from Amazon.

Finish is tacky, no solder, no wood needing cutting, no pending desk caddy orders, both pending mod repairs complete and returning home tomorrow ... guess it's play time fer cappy!

To cool i lived in Sarasota on and off for 10 years before moving back to GA. God i so miss the water(and the Starbucks on University just up from lockwood ridge. Had some of the best times of my life there.

The only thing I can think of might be using a hard wax product, like turtle wax for cars. If you know someone who does professional painting you could sand it down to wood again and they could give it a half dozen coats of lacquer in a spray booth. You could also get some 400 grit sand paper, tape off the switch and catch cup, and as long as you have not yet waxed the mod, give it a light sanding and use some minwax gloss polyurethane (the hand rubbed variety which is thinned out more than the brush on type) and apply several more coats. Give each new coat about a day to dry until you have the gloss that you want.

I don't know about a clear coat but most of us use Howard's Feed and Wax, works great to keep her beautiful.. Also wanted to add that i tried another suppliers wood treatment here and it works perty good as well.. Lil more work then the Howard's but nice results..
