ooh I'm getting so excited - my flame box elder looks sooooo nice :) Only sucky part is it takes at least 2 weeks to get here once it's finished lol

Aye, that flame box elder is looking nice. Usually only part of the wood has a flame color, it's not often the whole panel has such a nice flame pattern, it's hard to find them like that. I hope you're happy with it when it arrives! Arrr

:)

Well, I'm out, night all.

Ahoy and good morning all. Another week and a new month, the year is passing quickly!

H'morning maties. Happy Monday. It really feels as if time is passing by very quickly, Cappy. Tomorrow is Christmas already. Lol

It does seem like it was new years a month ago. Where did the year go?

Good morning crew! The batch is looking right splendid Cappy. I get little regret pangs whenever I see batch photos and don't have one in it :D

Have a good day and a profitable week!

Arrr, just finished the last fine sanding and put another coat of finish on them.. when it is good and dry I can start electronic assembly.

wow. what wood is that light ziricot looking door on the top left in the first picture?
that thing looks so cool!

You nailed it, that is ziricote panels going on a black walnut frame. It's always such a pretty wood but some paint patterns are definitely better than others.

It's been very quiet lately. It was some 12 hours between posts the other day as I recall and the thread was still on page one. I suspect when winter really hits and half of the country is stuck indoors again it will pick up all through ECF, lol.

It's also hard to generate the interest when you recall that I've been around for over a year and a half now, not exactly new stuff I'm offering and I doubt I can really improve on what I am offering now either. I think I've about hit the pinnacle of what I can accomplish with my skills. All I can do now is try to keep refining them until they leave here as defect free and perfect as I can manage.

I could be wrong but there just seems to be so much more interest in tube mods. I'm not sure why, I love my wood and metal box mods. Especially at the level of craftsmanship and beauty you are putting out Capt'. Each one is so much more personal than a metal tube in my mind. Also the fact that I love to bottom feed my juice. I am looking forward to my new D2 though;) Something a little different for me. I will say though, I tried a provari at a recent vape meet and was pleased with the experience, just not as my go to mod.
So much discussion going on in the RBA threads lately too.

Well, I'm sure a big part of it is numbers, when so many of the tube PV's are out on the streets lots of people can talk shop, tell stories and compare experiences.

On a good month I can make perhaps 16 to 20 mods and a third of them are the little cruisers. For a tube mod its just a matter of sending the specs to machine shops, assembling the parts much like a flashlight and out the door it goes. The profit margin is good once the R&D phase is done and you can make them by the hundreds once things get rolling. I can only envy the people who do that, but, well I do what I do and have to survive as best I can. :)

Good morning crew.
Well about the tubes, I started with one, and still have a Provari around. But the only way you can have something which makes you feel like its unique is to get a box like a Cutlass or Destroyer. Wood is something...special, and we definitelly need some good craftmen like you Cappy.
If I was to place things on a market line, I would put my Cutlass on top. It's like being a analog smoker, but wanting to get that very special handmade lighter made in a small shop somewhere, it just makes you feel...different.

One thing for sure, I could sell my tubes someday, because I know that if I miss them, I can replace them by the exact same ones somehow. I'll never ever sell my Cutlass II. This one was made for me, it is mine.

I think once RBA's for bottom feeders become a lot more readily available, the bottom fed mod will make a comeback. Especially if a purpose built genesis bottom fed is made. I have to admit, the chalice is what has brought me back to bottom feeders. And the cutlass II just looks like a beautifully made mod to me.

Ahoy and good morning me 'earties, happy Tuesday to ye all!

It's funny, but even working with these every day I catch myself staring at my own, turning it once or twice in my hand looking at the patterns in the wood and rubbing my thumb over the side of it to feel the grain. It's hard to explain. My tube mods (I do own a few) sit in the stand, get grabbed occasionally and then put back, but my Cutlass goes with me from room to room and if I bang it against something I cringe or if it falls over I quickly inspect it for any dings or damage.

I guess the survival of RSM will always have to rely on the people who prefer form along with function. Still, I envy the people who can work normal hours and still brag about 6 figure profits in the suppliers forum of ECF, but I suppose that's normal. Alas...
