Hell...we've been speaking about that Granadillo on the french forum, and I was considering asking for a PV made of that wood someday. Might just not for the safe of your machines

Oh yes? Well it is a gorgeous wood, just as pretty as mahogany which is also one of my favorites, but it is very hard, not the hardest wood out there mind, but still very tough. For example, I've programmed in a certain speed to route at and most woods run at around 90% of that speed, I can go up to 100% if I want but then the machine shakes a bit. When a bit wears down I slow it down to 65-75% so it doesn't chip the wood. I am running the Granadillo at 45% right now and it's still making my bit chatter.

Beautiful wood though ...

It is beautiful, but if it takes a band saw everytime you make a PV out of a it...

I so wanted a PV made of Lignum Vitae some time ago...Hardest wood ever so I've heard, ranking highest on the Janka scale with something around 4500 if I can remember correctly. The idea was to have a wood box that I could take out with me not worrying about it. The wood looks pretty awesome as well. Still, I guess it would also be the heaviest Wood box around if the whole thing was made of Lignum Vitae. Oh well, I guess it could be used as a self-defense weapon too :D

Yeah, you could throw it like a brick! Well, sometimes the harder wood is more prone to cracking, it's all in the grain, as a long intertwined grain will crack but be easily repairable, while a wood like an ebony cracks and is tough to fix. I try to pick woods that I can work without too much hassle, have good durability an also not be too hard/heavy (and are pretty).

Just paused the program, that bit is buzzing and whining and now running at 30% speed, I hate having to swap bits mid-run but it's shot ... only one new bit left but fortunately only 2 mods left to route and they are both Maple which routes easier than most other woods.

Argg, the cost of one mod per batch in just bits & blades that get thrown out, wish there was a better way. Lasers? har har har..

Back to work I go :)

Done! Took nearly twice as long and destroyed a router bit, but it looks great!

Think I will knock off early.... stressing out for an hour and a half, hovering over the router like a hawk over a mouse, ready to hit the emergency stop. Time fer Cappy to grab a beer and relax methinks.

Batch it coming along well, I think I will easily make the deadline and also keep up with the desk caddy orders which are coming in more often as the weeks go by, I think the word is getting out?

Back later, arrrr

Nice ending to the day. I was shopping E-bay, browsing the wood as I do periodically, and found an awesome piece of Macassar Ebony that will be perfect for body wood. Great black/brown streaks and the perfect size for bodies without hardly any wasted wood. Just what I've been looking for. More colorful than Gabon ebony and is a lot easier to work and doesn't have a tendency to crack while sanding like gabon has.

Macassary ebony, Ziricote, Black and white ebony and marblewood are some of the woods I've been watching, waiting for a suitably sized piece for body wood.

Grabbed some knife scales as well, gotta have some new pretties to offer for batch #20.

Arrr!

Good morning all, looking like a gorgeous day outside.

The Macassar ebony is about as dark as I can get, the Gabon ebony is around $120 a board foot? I'm happy just to have panels made from it. Should have a nice selection for the upcoming batch.

Couple more days of sitting in front of the cnc machine, got the last couple box insides to route, then PB channels/holes, then CC/tank holes to route in them all.

I need to dig up some new audio books to listen to while staring blankly at the machine. I think I've listened to every Star Wars audio book there is, also all the Terry Pratchet and R.A.Salvatore there are. Gotta find something new!

Well, some people missed out on the last sale I had, so I am putting the A7 ERA and the wicks on sale again.

One more chance to grab these guys at a discounted price. Pass it on to any friends who have been sitting on the fence and wanting to try the rebuildables.

If you have a current pre-order waiting to be filled, I will refund the shipping price after purchase, make sure to make a comment during checkout to that affect. I can also do that for desk caddies and other accessories.

Ok, done talking shop...Arrrr

Quick question, I just couldn't find the answer anywhere: Anyone knows if the Cobra fits the Destroyer II? I just can't seem to find the diameter of this thing and it does not appear on Cappy's list

I found it on my list, as .79", should be no problem :)
