I am really glad I found this thread. Thanks for all the help.
We aren't dead yet. Lol.
Not by a long shot.
Oh, and let me tell all the posters a dirty little secret I have learned from my on-going talks with liquid vendors (I do that a lot!) I've sort of "interviewed" my favorite vendors ranging from (most notably) Nick at GoodeJuice, Wlad at Ahlusion and Donnley and Vapenstein at W2V. I, someone who likes to think of himself as a liquid guy, would say those are some high quality juice makers. Well, guess how all of them choose to vape their juices? ViVi Nova? Not hardly. Cartomizer? Yeah right. Genesis? Nope. RBA? Close, but no cigar. Regular Ole attys? Yep, you got it right! Ding ding ding.
As far as I remember, Don at BWB does too. My point is that we buy this juice, and the makers of it have tried all this other stuff and they all vape the liquid they make, that we buy, out of regular attys. If that doesn't tell you something, you didn't read what I typed, or you just don't care.
Hope the FDA does not ruin are party.
I bought about 80 of the standard 510 atomizers back in 2009 when the FDA first tried to ban electronic cigarettes.Long story made short, unless you have a couple hundred "old school" atties laying around it *might* be worth your time to either stock up now, while you can, and/or give in and pick up a few RDAs.

I still have about 65 of them left at this point, so I figure I'm set for at least a decade.
But lately I've been considering getting a couple of IGO-S atomizers just in case.
If I do, I'll put them in Vapeageddon stash and hope I never need them.
My longest lasting 510 atomizer went for 8 months before kicking the bucket.I have had one Joye go for months on in and look back at me like, "is it time to rebuild me?" LOL

It may help that I only use 3.7 volt batteries to do my dry burns, just to make sure I don't accidentally pop them.
Yeah, the classic cleaning method below recommends using higher voltage...Awesome tip! Really. Awesome.
This is why the silica wick doesn't burn...I still dont understand why the silica doesnt burn.

Some people think it does, and that is what led to the whole debridging thing.
But they were wrong.
Based on your explanation of what happened, I can only hazard a guess...D2, you have got to explain to me why it is that when I used to vape W2V tobaccos and the atty would clog something terrible, how it was that after I debridged it, and removed the problematic wick, that it started working again, arguably better than before.
