The mech v. VV/VW argument will go on forever. Uninformed newbies will always be a concern; if it's not unregulated mods, it will be batteries they misuse.

On another note, I really don't get the P3 (PayPal Paranoia).

I've had a PP account practically since inception, have never had any problems, and security measures are far more secure now than they were when PP launched. I've experienced numerous compromised banking issues using credit cards with traditional online stores and subscription services yet never a problem with PP when buying from the ECF classifieds or elsewhere.

I use a bank and a credit union and both have very effective anti-fraud measures in place and actually notify me of any potentially suspect activity.

I think the P3 folks should reconsider the diligence and security measures used (or not used) by their bank instead of blaming a service they clearly haven't used, at least recently.

No, but the bank is bank and is regulated like a bank.

Not sure I get the point.

Any OT thoughts to add?

Years ago I had an ebay store and verified paypal account.

With an email as evidence they seized $3000+ and sent one a count into a tailspin that cost me hundreds of dollars.
Caused auto payments to get missed, and fees to be charged.

A week later they releases my funds as no fraud had occurred and repayed me.
It caused damage to my credit score and cost me a mortgage.
( I was trying to buy a house at the time)
PayPal isn't regulated like a bank and doesn't have to follow the same rules.

I still use PayPal to make purchases, but you don't need an account to make payment.

The issue I have is connecting an account and address to a paypal account
Especially just to buy a used mod.

Wow, Bad Ninja, that's a horror story!

Cases like that are justified and not P3 at all.

There are, however, risks of doing business and using PP in that magnitude is apparently one of them.

I keep a separate account with a minimal balance for PP purchases so I have no associated real asserts to lose if something did go south.

Without a "bank of ECF" though, I think requiring PP verification is an acceptable method for ECF to run the classifieds forum.

OT - the "mech wars" will still continue. :)

I almost always use RTAs on my regulated mods, and I almost always use mechanicals to run my RDAs. The aesthetics of a Stingray X with an copper sleeved Apo and a Vicious Ant Pharaoh drip tip will keep me using that set-up forever. Even if mechanicals were to fall out of favor, they'd come back in a few years as a retro trend like vinyl LPs did in the MP3 era.

Is it just me? Or has anyone noticed a run on mechs and parts? I think this whole "Death of the mech mod" meme has made them more desired than ever.

Either that or a rising tide lifts all boats, so more people using reg boxes now could just be due to more people in general getting into vaping in the last few months, and that includes mechs. Boxes could be growing faster due to average users jumping into the game, while mechs grow too for the more hobbyist minded.

Thoughts?

Mechs are cheaper to make; more profitable for the seller; and if you can sell thousands of them that don't even have a 510 connector, some of those buyers come back for another one when the thing shorts out on them.

Paypal doesn't care about your information.
They don't have to follow rules like banks do.
There is zero oversight and zero recourse when they screw up.

I buy a ton of gear, I don't sell gear and the classies would love me, but it's not worth giving paypal direct access to my bank account and credit.
You are only cavalier about this because it hasn't happened to you yet.

There is just soooo much I disagree with in this thread I don't know where to start, and that doesn't include the many OT comments about Paypal.

Like it or nor mechs are "dying" in terms of popularity. As someone deftly stated above - just try selling one in the classified section. You can speculate as to why, and have your opinion but I see a lot box mod users being painted very negatively here. Not everyone using a regulated mod is some type of dummy that can't figure out Ohm's Law and reaching for the next shiny toy coming out of China with a digital display.

I have enough electronics background to run Ohm's Law circles around most of the so-called experts here. I prefer regulated boxes now, but enjoy using mechs and still own a few. There is no question in my mind that regulated boxes are safer, and easier to use in terms of getting the precise vape experience that the user is seeking. Does it make it easier and safer for a new vaper? Certainly - but since when is that a bad thing?

Or are mech users just upset because their authentic Caravelas suddenly just dropped in value from 500 bucks to 150? I know it's difficult but it's the new reality, don't be bitter.

The only thing I use a mech for now is for testing new juices and occasional dripping, but I'll keep them around in case an EMP kills my regulated mods.

There is a decline in demand for $500 3 year old tubes, yes.
That's because common sense is creeping into the industry as popularity grows.
People aren't falling for the über high price game.

Mechs will never die.

Did you know that $25k mercury outboard boat motors come with either state of the art fuel injection or old school carburetors.
Guess which is more popular?
Can ya guess why?

Mechs may not rule the industry, but they aren't going anywhere.

Comparing Mechs to regulated mods is apples and oranges. Two completely different animals with more differences than similarities. And for someone to say that one is better than the other shows their lack of experience or knowledge in the differences between the two. There's no doubt that the popularity of mechs is falling off but I don't think they will go away anytime soon. I think some people just prefer to use a mech and that's fine.

However, I do believe that more newbies are attracted to regulated mods because they are safer and easier to use. I enjoy a regulated mod because they offer more freedom as far as customizing your vape. On a mech, I'm confined to adjusting my resistance as one of the only ways to change my vaping experience (aside from different attys/mods). On the other hand, with a regulated mod, I've got more voltage available than my mech, and can build a wide variety of coils of different resistance to tailor my vape. I think many people prefer a regulated mod because when compared to mech, they allow much more freedom.

But as stated, they are completely different animals that result in completely different experiences. Nobody can say one is better....it's all a matter of preference.

1: Did I know that $25k mercury outboard boat motors come with either state of the art fuel injection or old school carburettors.

No.

2: Guess which is more popular:

Well my first at a glance guess was fuel injection;
then reading it over again and in the context of the thread I'm thinking your post is supposed to pointing at why the old mechs are popular, therefore maybe the answer here is the older thing which would be carburettors.

3: Can ya guess why?

Could it be that the old carburettor system still happens to be more reliable than the fuel injected system? (I wouldn't know, I'm just guessing; but actually it so happens I drive an old car with carburettor, and distributor, no computer; in fact sometimes I feel like ripping out the electric window motor thing and putting in a mechanical handle to wind up the glass!)

It so happens just this afternoon, my mobile rig - one of my vamo's with a heavytastemod60 - kept cutting off; have to press five times to turn back on; and I gave up and just used one of my mechwithakick rigs instead - a stingray/sigelei-vwkick/flashevapor2.

Tried and true transparent simplicity has a common sense appeal.

1. Yes they come both ways.
2. The simple mechanical carb versions sell better than the EFI versions.

3. Mechanical carburetors sell better because they are more easily serviced by the customer.
When you are 8 miles off shore, electronic diagnosis machines are hard to find.

There's still a market for the EFI versions, but to some people relying totally on a dealer to service their motor just isn't an option.

Same thing with mechanical mods.
That's why they will never go away.

I'm just tired of of all the mech hate on ECF . People that know little or nothing jump on the bandwagon saying mechs are inherently dangerous . It's not the devices it's the occasional dumbazz misusing them that get all the attention . Mechs aren't going anywhere and I'll have mine for years to come . If the FDA regulates us back to using cigalikes , what's gonna happen to all the mech haters when the electronics in their regulated devices inevitably fail them ?

Even if they ban them all, I'll have a mech inventory that will last a lifetime. Can't say that about any of my regulated mods.

Let them hate - the internet is full of haters and random fools. I don't have much interest in the new regulated box mods; I love my mechanical mods. I have about two dozen authentic mechanicals that I take great care of and regularly enjoy and they will outlast all regulated mods and other pieces of consumer electronics that will inevitably fail. I love the simplicity of them and I get along just fine without fine tuning my voltage or wattage or counting my puffs. The lower prices that we see for mechanicals in the Classifieds as of late is great if you're a buyer.

It just aggravates the hell out of me when someone asks for assistance in the New members forum regarding mechs and you get this outpouring of crap from the mech hating numbnuts telling them they shouldn't even consider a mech despite the posters obvious interest . There are people on this forum suggesting that mechs should be banned . If they don't like mechs they don't have to buy one but to suggest they should be banned on a pro vaping forum is outrageous IMO , it swells my nads .

Me neither. Paypal is ridiculously secure.........way more than most credit cards, which are getting hacked all the time.

I love mechanicals. I dislike readouts, lights, bells, whistles and all that jazz. I have never need it.
