I do not see the point to mechanical mods from a practical point of view. From a hobbyist/enthusiast pov I understand that mechs are aesthetically pleasing and fun to build/modify.

But overall, regulateds in the last couple years have really stepped there game up and some of the new 100w and 150w dual battery regs can blow a mech out of the water.

Regs are computer controlled, have temp/wattage control and give a consistent vape without sacrificing battery life. They are also exponentially more safe.

I love vaping and the culture, but practically I don't ever see myself getting a mech and I think that in the future mechs will be left in the dust.

The "point" to a mech mod was the ability to sub-ohm. The reason sub-ohming was so important, was because during the time mech mods reached their popularity, there were NO mods that went past 12 or 13 watts.

This was less than 2 years ago. During that time, if you wanted thick clouds, or if you wanted to run RBAs, you needed a mech mod. You COULD NOT achieve the same quality vape without em, not if you wanted to use drippers, or wanted thick clouds.

I believe it was the DNA20 , a 20-watt chip, that started to change things a bit. However, the first 20 watt, and subsequently 30watt mods were EXTREMELY expensive. They were around $100-250 if I remember correctly. So even when regulated devices started to reach 20-30 watts, they were still around $130+, where as mech mods could be as low as $20.

It wasn't until RECENTLY that regulated devices started becoming more available, and cheaper. Only within the past year, or 18 months or less.

You are absolutely correct though.....NOWADAYS there is no benefit to using a mech mod. Now that you can get a regulated device , 100-200watts+ , for 50cents/watt, you are seeing sales of mech mods decline even more.

Believe me, compared to a year ago, mech mod sales have dropped drastically. Another year from now, or less, and the new vapers won't even know what a mech mod is.

****EDIT:
I would like to elaborate, that I was actually referring SPECIFICALLY to TUBE mech mods. I DO understand why some people prefer to run mechanical mods instead of regulated devices.....some people want a simpler, strurdier device.

I just think the VAST majority of mech mods in the future will be box mods.

Also, the main point of this thread was to say that there was time, not too long ago, where mech mods were LITERALLY able to do something that regulated devices COULD NOT DO. THIS is why mech mods were so popular. I'd say at LEAST 75% of mech mod owners bought there mech mods to sub ohm, because regulated devices couldn't handle sub ohm at the time. The other 25% or so are the people you see on this thread, who wanted something more sturdy, or more basic/simple.

Chips fail.
Boards fail.
They all will eventually fail. All electronics do.

Mechs don't.
Nothing to fail.
Mechs are never going away.
They are 100% safe if you actually know what you are doing.

Neither are RBAs. No matter how good the prebuilt coil is.
Some people do not want to live with the tether of buying coils.

Eh, I wouldn't be so quick to say that nothing on a mech can fail. I've seen many mech mods with stripped 510 threads, locking rings that can get cross-threaded and render the mod unuseable. Anything made by man can and will fail, eventually.

I still don't understand why sub ohming is 'so important...' I use 2ohm coils on my non regulated device...

If you used RBAs, you would understand. I'll break it down:

1. drippers perform much better , and most of them are specifically designed to run at 1ohm or under.

2. many of us use 2, 3, 4, or more coils per build. Say you build both coils at 1ohm. That means the build will be running at 0.5ohms. As you can see, there just isn't enough room in most RBAs to go above 1ohm once you start building multiple coils.

3. On a non-regulated device, the ONLY way to get more power, more vaper, and ultimately more flavor out of a coil is to lower the ohms, since there is no other way to adjust the wattage/voltage.

Subohming in general- on any device, I still don't get...

I use RTA's also, at 1.6-2.2 ohms. tremendous flavor...

I used coils over 1.0 on a Kayfun when I started vaping, then I discovered RDAs and found out what my juice really tastes like.
:)

For me, I enjoy a rich thick vape and unrestricted airflow.
On a mechanical, it just doesn't produce the vape I enjoy without dual
Coils and lower resistance.
I'm not a clown chaser, but I need more that turtle fluffing provides.

These Zen attys I have been playing with produce crazy flavor and too much vapor at around 2 ohms, especially with the cone flavor chamber drip tips. There is no resistance at all as far as airflow...

They might not "ban" mods but they could amke them require a license for manufacture / add enough other bothersome paperwork. At that point, its imports or small companies here calling em something else and trying to survive. I hope I am wrong, ... I really want a *lifetime* warranty on my hex ohms but I could see deeming as it is planned now leading to everyone but the biggest, stateside at least, giving up because the ROI just isn't there anymore.

As other have said, vapocalypse wise a mech is a safe long term bet. I will probably get myself one at some point for this reason, and cause some are just art pieces frankly.

Look at watches, a reasonable analogy i think.

Oh yea, I forgot..... mech mods DO make great back ups.

I don't see why anyone would use anything but Charmin toilet paper. It's strong and soft and does the job better than anything else. Apparently, some people like getting the dingleberries. I can't explain it. Vape and wipe happy people!

I work in a harsh environment where it's very hot and unfriendly to electronics and I've found regulated mods (most of then anyway) don't last too long for me, where as a mech doesn't sustain the same amount of wear and damage and if it does I can literally scrub it down in the sink and it's back to normal

Other than government banning all e-cigs (IMO unlikely due to all the petitions) or the apocalypse (which is a moot point considering there won't be power and who the hell cares about lung cancer when you're more likely to die from something else), I don't see the point of them.

No 1. With a mech you have to build to how you want the vape to be, with regulated you just change the wattage.

No 2. The vape changes as the battery drains.

I have a nemesis clone just to say I have a mech, but honestly I hate using the damn thing.

Baby wipes.
Screw the dry stuff.
I want to smell like flowers when I'm done.
(We shall have to see how they handle beets)
(Cough, cough. ... eh? Susan? )
Sadly, I am no longer able to use public restrooms as my spoiled tushy won't go for dry 1 ply.

The only way I can get the vape I want on a mech all the way down to 3.5V or less on the battery is to subohm. I like single coils between 0.6-0.8 ohm to achieve that, and duals 0.4-0.6 ohm.

When it comes to 3 or 4 coils its nearly impossible not to get a subohm build. My Estia has 3 28g coils and is 0.5 ohm. My Aromamizer has 4 27g coils and is 0.35 ohm.

When I run single coil attys regulated I like 1-1.3 ohm. Dual/tri/quad builds will be subohm regardless, but I may move up to thinner wire on some of them for a regulated build. I do on my more mannerly, lower airflow tanks anyway like the Estia.

Try reproducing the buttery smoothness of a buttery smooth mech fire button on a box mod.

These are your opinions stated in support of your own personal preference and not the reality of it. I use nothing but mechs, they are all I've used for all of my vaping journey, and they are all I'm ever going to use in the way of mods. I am hardly alone in this. Others can have their electronic gizmo boxes I'll just stick with what has served me so very well.

I see no point at all in 100+ watts when I get all the vapor and flavor I want from my mechs and gennies. Nor do I see any point in pursuing the biggest cloud on the block. You don't like mechs, we get that, but it's just your own opinion, and if you don't like them don't have one. Plenty of other vapers love their mechs, and will continue to buy and use them. They will always have their place.

I guess it's not enough for you to be happy with your regulated mod, you have to bash mechs too. Why is that? I'm happy with my mechs, but I don't feel I have to put down other mods.

I mainly use regulated but have my Dimitri as a backup and being honest vaping on a mech gives me more satisfaction because I've done more to get my perfect vape as opposed to a regulated where no matter the build you increase or decrease power to get where you want. As many others have said mechs will outlast any regulated out at the minute so if you've got a mech you've got piece of mind that no matter what might happen you can continue vaping. Always someone stating something is better then something else or you've got all you need probably always will be that way and I don't care how much time passes because my Dimitri will go as long as i do ;).
