Do you remember when you started vaping and the only juice you were interested in was one JUST like you used to smoke? I laughed when I read the cocktail and fruit threads..so many of us have new tastes now!

Do you remember covering up the smoke smell with colongne, mouth wash, breath spray and bounce by the fistfull in the laundry? Sometimes all at once?

Do you remember the dirty looks non smokers gave you? Ok they still do because now you are vaping and it looks kinda shifty!

Do you remember the burn holes in everything? So charming!

Do you remember the first time you saw a mod?...OK fess up you said NOT me! Oh maybe you said GOTTA have it!

I remember all too well! The nasty looks people gave me when I lit up - always outside and away from people to be polite, but you would think I was blowing it in their face by the looks I got! Mints, gum, and lotion to cover the smell of smoke! I hid it very well, most people never dreamed that I smoked lol!

I never took to the tobacco flavors, it wasn't till I discovered cappuccino that I was able to quit smoking. And when I first saw them, I vowed never to buy a mod - I was not going to have that huge thing sticking out of my mouth! lol And yet, I was set to buy one out of desperation! Thank God I found V4L because my XL is all I need!

oh, i remember. and it's BIZARRE that it seems like a lifetime ago when it was only a few months. it still seems bizarre that i don't smoke anymore, though. unreal.

i remember... making excuses to go outside at my g'dad's house to smoke (cause he'd insist i could smoke inside even tho he has COPD).

i remember dreading spending the day with friends who have kids because not only was an outdoor pariah but a hiding outdoor pariah.

feeling constantly apologetic for the smell of me, my house, my car, my coat, my purse...

panicking over the prospect of being snowed in without enough cigarettes (not really an issue now given The Stash)

MaryKay, like everyone here, I remember all too well. I can tick off the same issues and more. Now, though, when a stranger approaches, I have a few favorite words to say softly with a calm, cool smile... "it's not a cigarette." I really enjoy those special moments and the confused reactions that follow. Kind of nasty, eh? Whatever, for some reason I enjoy it every time. :sneaky:

2 weekends ago I was walking through a smoke free casino in Illinois vaping away, and I must have had 30 people ask me what I was doing. When I sat down at the poker table the guy across from said " that is the weirdest cigarette I have ever seen". It was fun explaining to everyone what it was and the benefits that went along with it.

The first 50 times Stealthy! Then you will just pass out cards like the rest of us!..Just teasing.:D

We drove down to Tampa today..I was vaping away when I started noticing the odd looks from people passing us or people we passed! I am normally alone so I don't look all around in the drivers seat.
I did see some trucker with a passthru! I could see the cord from his silver device! I hope it was a VK!!!

Well i can say this for sure.. My parents still smoke.. Been trying to get them off of analogs totally.. My mom is trying vaping, but still smokes analogs.. My dad is just stubborn and will not even try it..

But a few months ago i went to visit them.. Once i got there, i went off with my mom in their truck... I about passed out from the smell in that truck.. My god, it was like someone lit it on fire.. I had to roll down the window and stick my head out.. Plus, every time they light up, i can smell it from a mile away, and i start getting very sick at my stomach..

I think i am way more sensitive to analog smoke now then i was when i was smoking!! I guess all of that crap is out of my system, and it has put up heavy defenses to prevent another attack..

Oh yea, and when i started vaping back in June of 09, i thought i would be more keen on the tobacco-ish flavors.. I also thought i wanted a PV that looked like an analog.. I got a m-402.. That was great, and then i switched to the m-201 and discovered the wonders of the pen style..

Thats what I'm using now till the mail person kindly delivers my VK today!!! Now i only want long batteries, and i love those fruit and candy flavors!! :D

I still kinda like short batteries, but I vape all the time and it's a bummer going though those short batteries in 2-3 hours..

Yeah, smoking's even more horrible in retrospect, for me.

I remember waking up one morning that seems like eons ago (under 2 months) with the big familiar lumpy feeling in my throat that I was sure was esophageal cancer, and the usual raw breathing, and hearing that creepy wheeze in the lungs, and not being able to get a sweet lungful of morning air, and noting once again that I felt like crap and was already halfway thru my first cigarette before my eyes had fully opened (pat pat on the bedside table), and thinking about all of the stuff that everyone remembers, and thinking, as usual, "I need to stop this. Now." And, as usual, "Right." And something dimly resembling a prayer on that.

And then (this is true) playing with StumbleUpon (the random searcher-of-good-sites app) while having my coffee-in-bed, and after looking at photos of cool strange houses, and playing with a vector thingie, and looking at a video of an orangutan who is friends with a dog, it landed me at a site called Bizarre Inventions or something, and there was a little thing about an e-cigarette. Twinkle twinkle.

So I googled it, and wandered a little, and landed on ECF. And somehow spent my first hour in there in what must have been the modders section. This led me to believe that ecigs were extremely complicated things that kids who had garage bands and guys who built their own motorcycles were deeply into. Poop. Still. Still...

Then off to work. Was up all that night, and a lotta nights, finding out about it all. By the time I ordered my first kit from V4L, with confidence in my choice (I DO research everything, and speed read) I was already an idiot savant on the topic. Sort of. I even had twenty zillion gallons of Vita Water on hand.

And it was an immediate huge easy YAY. The end of all that, wow. Zero sweat and absolute enjoyment (that DID surprise me).
One thing I know is that I'll never go back again, because all of those memories pop up all the time. And within a week the wheeze was completely gone, the lumpy swallow was gone, the breathing was big and beautiful, and like everyone else in here, it feels like life itself. Like the man says. (I REALLY do love you, Steve.)

If they ban them, I dunno what I'll do - I'm stocked up and will be getting a taper down emergency stock for the closet, but it's just not ever going to be cigarettes again.
Snus? Just let it go? Whatever. Cross it when and if I come to it.

Not worried about vaping at all at this point (hospice doc, who's been riding me for years, noted that it's a brilliant invention and that nicotine isn't much different than coffee, and not to sweat the small stuff - I about fainted, as he's pretty conservative). Those memories are no joke.

And oh, OK, here's one that not too many will share. I've been a very terrible but serious Zen student for about 30 years. Try sitting a sesshin (a 3 - 9 day or longer sit) when you've been smoking 2-4 packs a day forever. Very ... .... .... .....

One of my favorite Roshis (that's a Zen Master) was a smoker. He wouldn't much talk about it, was just OK with it. Died this year of lung CA, in his 50's. Wrap yer ephemeral mind around that one, glasshoppah.

Cigs seemed like an indispensable friend while wrenching my wretched way thru a divorce after 30 years married, and a string of subsequent related and unrelated catastrophes that would sink the Queen Mary (and the death of my wonderful mom, chain smoker, lung CA)... some decade this has been, oy. And a very smoky one.

And then there was the vaguely sometimes-appealing idea of maybe possibly finding another guy... but I was chain smoking all day and half the night, and at my age, and in this anti-smoking age, and in my subculture whatchcallit, well, it ain't a pretty thang ...

So it's not just the thousand little things, it's the big things, too.

This is the first Dr Pepper I've vaped. Freebie. Hey, it's nice!

After reading your post aubergine, about how you found out about e-cigs, i have to chime in here once more..

I'm only 27, but i have been been smoking from 16 till about June of last year.. So in those 9-10 years i slowly began to feel it's effects.. I too could see how i couldn't hardly run as i once did before i started smoking.. I always felt low on energy, and just very bad some days.. I even would often get very sick and would vomit very nasty black stuff.. 8-o

I tried the patch which only made me itch like crazy, and even the gum which kinda tasty nasty.. I still had the mental urge too smoke, to have something in my hand, too see the smoke as i exhale..

I first saw a kiosk at my local mall that said electronic cigarette.. At first i was very dismissive.. "Ha, how can a ciggy be electronic?!" Was my first thought.. "You have to light it to smoke it!?" Then as i struggled to quit more and more, i figured, what the heck, I'll google it.. Well guess what i found when i first googled?!

I found all of Leafords you tube videos!! Yep, and i watched all of them all the time for about a week.. Thats when i stumbled across ECF.. I began reading about them here as well.. But i really have to give a bunch of credit to Leaford.. Seriously, without his vids, and actually seeing someone explain and use the PV's in a video, i doubt i would of tried them myself..

Once i got my first kit i was blown away.. It really did feel like i was smoking!? I thought wow, this is going to work!! After about a few days of using the PV i totally quit analogs completely.. (well not having the cash to buy them helped too, and the cost of a pack of them..)

About a month after getting off of analog's, I too started to notice my breathing changing.. I could breath deeper.. I also started to get more energy back.. And darn it if i just don't feel good all the time now.. It's almost like it's a crime too feel this good..

Since then i have followed Leaford's blog, etc.. I finally had the money to switch over and try the VK.. I have only heard good things about it.. I really wanted to give it a try as I'm always searching for something better.. :D That and i believe the prices have come down as well which helped me a ton.. (and the discounts! wow, thanks for those Steve!! Every dollar saved helps too!! :D)

So now i sit here and wait for my new VK to comes to me in the mail.. (hopefully today.. USPS says it was sorted in Atlanta yesterday!!)

But the hardest thing is to come is waiting for those batteries to charge!! Ohh, i get to sit and drool over my VK for 8 hours while the batteries charge.. I guess i should of gotten the PT too, but that will come later.. I'll just have to use my other PV till the batteries charge.. :p
