Yes, but my point is (and why I started the April 1st- Payoff thread) why in the hell aren't the stores getting any stock in? It is definitely by design. I have an update that I will put on the other thread. I would still like you guys to ask your local stores and find out IF they received any loose tobacco recently. Thanks!
I always found it amusing how these sin taxes are levied on people to get them to quit smoking (controlling societal behavior) under the guise that it will save money on healthcare.
Arguably people who smoke die sooner will collect LESS in social security and other benefits because of the lower life expectancy.
So the catch 22 is that by extending the life expectancy of the population, the long term social benefit costs are going to go up, but they will have less tax revenue sources.
Here's the real kicker, the healthcare costs are probably on par anyway because as age increases, the medical costs are going to increase along with them. A nonsmoking 95 year old is going to cost the gov't more than a smoker who kicks the bucket at say 65.

Oh we have the power. We just never exercised it. Get every smoker in the country to be OUT in bars, dining establishments, whatever this Friday. At midnight, have us ALL light up INDOORS at the exact same time.
Then let the cops decide what is a REAL crime on Friday night at midnight?
Do they go after a
drunk driver or indoor smoker?
domestic abuser or indoor smoker?
asault and battery or indoor smoker?
rape or indoor smoker?
robbery or indoor smoker?
Trust me, the cops would figure out real quick what is and is not a 'crime.'
I want a 'fat' tax, where every taxpayer must pay a certain amount for every pound they are overweight on every pay check throughout the year. Please, let me sell it. I would love to have a national podium so I can say, 'But our society decided smoking was bad for me and raised the taxes. So I quit, Now it's your turn' Maybe then the antis would figure out where they went wrong. (Ok, maybe SOME of them MIGHT.)
Speaking of which, I went into a local, single owner, sandwich shop several years ago. I placed my order then stepped outside to smoke. This was at 2 PM, so the place was empty. When I went back inside, he told me I needed to quit smoking because it was bad for my health. . I told him he could stand to lose a few pounds, because being overweight wasn't good for his health either. HE WENT BALLISTIC! He was SO offended! I told him not to dish it out if he can't take it. HAHA! He called the owner of the business I worked at to report me, since it was within walking distance. What he didn't know was I paid rent to the owner to operate in her space, so she didn't give a S&"*T what I said to him, as long as she got her money every month.
That is the reason I am here now. I had been buying my roll your own online for 12 bucks a pound (10 pounds for $120 with free shipping). WIth the new taxes, the cost would jump from $12 a pound to $36.50 a pound. I just said no to SCHIP. The Feds are in collusion with Big Pharma. The Feds raise the tax so the smokers flee to patches, gum or god forbid, Chantix. Screw that. I am not giving any of these jerks my money. Both the gum and patches are too damn strong for me nicotine wise, even the lowest levels they sell, not to mention to expensive. I would not take Chantix if my life depended on it. So here I am.
It will never happen. You will see tobacco dealers on the street corner just like you do with weed or crack. They are trying to prohibit it based on the cost of taxes. Let them price it out of the market, so organized crime can come in and solve the problem. I personally can't wait. Hell, organized crime will be able to sell it CHEAPER than anyone else at this point.
My gf and I both smoke, I have 8 pounds and 20 boxes of tubes, gonna get more to. Some convenience stores still have some. So does a few grocery stores. I hate to be greedy, but hey, EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF!!!
It is still easy to buy 1lb bags of menthol, though. I was thinking of getting some and maybe turning a profit after the first of the month!

I am busy trying to get rid of the rest of mine so I don't have the temptation around and to get my money out of it, but only for the costs I paid for it.
In poorer countries on the fringe of the regulated world organized crime already sells it much cheaper than the official outlets. And do not think the OC only means greasy man with auto weapons. For years I used to buy from a gang of Ukrainian retirees. They were really nice grandmothers, something like 70-y-o in average, supporting themselves and their grandkids with the proceedings of the cigs they smuggled through nearby post-Soviet border. When I moved out of the area, my mother-in-law contacted her friends and there was always some granny who knew another granny who could get the smokes from yet another one - for one third of the official price, and they would still make enough to live off that.
I mean it. Organized crime are nice people when compared to most governments.
organized crime has been selling cigs for quite some time. I was buying marlboros in the early 90s for 1/2 to 2/3 the retail price through the blackmarket in the U.S. And, I was reading an article the other day about mafia smuggling cigarettes into Canada.
