I recently purchased a used Woodvil and it apparently maintains the smell from the previous users vape -- unfortunately a tobacco scent that I don't care for at all.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of the smell without damaging the wood?

Clean the tube, bottle and cap, take out the o-ring too. Use Everclear or you might try vinegar. Squirt it through the tube and out the connector. Just put it in the bottle and hold the REO upside down over the sink and squonk.

You can try putting the REO in a ziploc bag with ground coffee for 24 hours. Sometimes that will remove the smell. Rice might also work.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I've cleaned up the parts pretty well. Seems to me the smell is embedded in the body of the Woodvil, but it's worth a shot to try them all. I can't use it like it is, and I certainly wouldn't try to sell it like this.

Thanks, Patrao. I took it apart as best I could and continually it through cycles in an Ultrasonic cleaner. That doesn't seem to have done anything to remove the, uh, scent. If all else fails, I'll give the vodka a shot, but I really think it's in the wood.

If it were me I would get a rebuild kit. Then I would take the rm2 and disasseble it completely. Then throw all the parts in vodka for a bath

Thanks, Chowderhead, that's a great idea, too. Definitely on my list of things to try.

Fill a ziploc bag partially with baking soda, insert mod and door with door detached into bag, seal and let it sit for a few days. Check progress after a week, dump old baking soda, repeat until satisfied.

Best odor removal material is charcoal. grab a cheap bag of BBQ charcoal (plain charcoal- not match light). You can put the charcoal into a linen or mesh bag and put it in a sealed container with your Woodville for a few days.

I keep a mesh bag of charcoal under the seat of my truck to eliminate random odors.

I'd suggest getting some mineral oil and, with a q-tip, smooth it around on the inside body of the woodvil..it might remove the tobacco smell...sounds like some of the juice got inside and on the wood and seeped into it.

Mineral oil is also great to keep the inside clean as per Mr. Rob's advice to me.

Filthy:

Thanks. That's where it is now -- resting in a bag of Chocolate Macadamia coffee. If it ends up smelling like the coffee grounds, I can live with that. :)

I've had good luck with putting things in coffee grounds for a few days to remove smells.

I think that's exactly what happened. There is a patch near the bottle that is shinier than the rest of the inside. I'm guessing it's the sight of the spill/overage. I cleaned up everything as best I could yesterday with cotton balls, but the smell lingers. Great suggestions in the thread though. At least now I have some hope of eventually getting rid of the odor. I can't stand to vape it as long as it spells like chewing tobacco.

Do you have any pure tung oil and "000 or 000" grit steel wool? As per Mr. Rob again, take a tiny, in your case, piece of the steel wool and lightly buff where the light color is, then dab a bit of mineral oil on a q-tip and gently dab it on the spot...actualy, the whole inside of the mod, then wipe away the access.

You'll have it smelling good in no time!

I don't have any of those things, but I'm sure Home Depot does. If the coffee grounds or charcoal don't work (both things I have in the house), I'll give those a try.

Thanks.

If it is in the wood: Howards Feed-N-Wax. - This is well accepted as the right product for cleaning, polishing, and conditioning woodvilles. It contains orange oil. Orange oil does a good job of separating alcohols (like PG and VG, glycerol etc) from anything they've adhered to. Orange oil has its own scent and it will stick with the mod for about three days after a thorough treatment.
