If you have used this wire before, can I get some tips please? I am used to Kansas so this is a whole new beast for me. I annealed it. Then wrapped a very tight coil. Put it in the rm2. And as soon as I fired it, the coil turned into a spring and now I have gaps everywhere. No matter how hard I try, it will not go back to the tight coil I built. Thanks reonuts and reonauts

Once you have wrapped it - that's pretty much where it stays. The only way i have ever found to make it budge after the fact is to blowtorch it while squeezing it with pliers.

If your usual effort is to use a lighter to take the spring out of wire, then it'll not work. R41 is a beast to work, but the flavour is great and once done you have time to heal the coils last for months.

You can also try "wrapping it under tension" and there are youtube videos that show how - you basically go back over a coil you have built longer than you need, while it's still on your mandrel and rework it with a metal bar, which makes it lie a lot neater.

I tension wrap on a 1/16 drill bit then holding the drill bit with 2 pair of vise grips put as much tension as I can with the legs in a pair of vise grips and torch the be geezers out of it with the torch stationary.

Here's some .030" Rene41 welding rod done that way. Talk about a bear to work with.

I think both pdib and xobeloot said they found it beneficial to torch and quench to help the coil to retain shape better. I almost purchased some the other month but after re-reading the thread decided not to just in case I actually do have a sensitivity to nickel.. I am thinking of trying some GPlat Wire but my vape budget is blown for awhile...

Finally got it with the quench and torch. Then I screwed it all to hell. Lol. I forgot to bend the leg before installing in my a6. So coil is out of whack again. I will retry on the rm2 sometime. Hey alexander mundy, where did you get that rod from? I was under the impression rené was only made in 27 gage.

eBay. It is Aerospace surplus.
Got to tell you though that it is too much surface area.
Cool down time is way too long so it is not a workable setup.
