Deb I think many of us had a similar childhood experience back then. Yes, we have a very short fall here, and spring. It is usually either hot as hades, or cold.
Yes, I didn't have a watch either back then. Not until I was a teenager. My mom was a stay at home mom. So she kept up with where we were supposed to be. We didn't go far, but we had freedom in that perimeter. If the lights flicked on outside, you better be in the yard. One time I was not. I will never forget that mistake.

We had woods around here. When we were a little older, we could have fun in there. I could play dot to dot with all of the mosquito bites. My mom used to coat me with OFF when I was a kid. We played at the creek too. I used to bring home all sorts of critters. I used to make terrariums, and fill goldfish bowls with tadpoles, and watch them grow up. I caught turtles, and lizards. One time we brought home a huge snapping turtle. We didn't know it was a snapping turtle, but my mother freaked when she saw it. We rarely went camping, because my mother did not like tent camping. Her idea of roughing it was renting a cabin. I used to take my kids camping quite a bit, and fishing. So they did get some quality time in the outdoors. I think it is important. Now my kids are grown of course. We can laugh about some of the things that happened when we were camping. Our best friends liked to go with us. The kids had the time of their lives. My friend had two girls, and raised her niece and nephew, for a few years. Those kids had a blast. Those memories will last a life time. Hopefully they will take THEIR KIDS camping too. Oh and the dogs usually love to go camping too. The sight of a kid, and their dog, in the great outdoors just warms your heart!
