We are in for some hellish heat. I was going to go visit some friends an hour away. I changed my mind. The a/c hopefully will hold up for me here at home.
Gave the dogs a bath outside. They didn't even seem to mind. Normally they aren't too excited about bath time around here...LOL. Got the Woodvil going, as usual. I am thinking about putting a coat of wax on it later today. It gets most of my vape time. Even the Grand LP doesn't get used as much as my Woodvil. It is firmly in the second position though. The rest are just for flavor changes.

Good morning, everyone! Yep, it's finally Friday. I finally get my eyes checked this coming week. Maybe then I can get back to making coils and be able to use my poor neglected Reos. Have some fun this weekend!

Howdy REOvillians, RedhatPat here checking in from Amish country to wish you the best weekend ever in REOville!

My dear misswish2 (and anyone other REOvillians) may I ask what age would you say is appropriate to get your eyes checked, folks? Assuming you're not showing any "major" signs of vision impairment that is.. The reason I'm asking is I'm as reluctant in getting my non-alcoholic beer goggles checked professionally (eye test to flatlanders) as I am when it comes to looking forward to a prostate examination or physical.

Needless to say, I have never worn eyeglasses or had contacts and would not look forward to the prospect of anything which requires more money.

I wish I were around more often I miss ya'll so very much, especially any of the folks who are newcomers because as we all know, many of them if not most of them, will become REOnauts even if they don't know it yet!

I think you are supposed to get your eyes checked every 2 years, if you have no vision issues. Problem is, issues sneak up on you and sometimes you don't notice. Also, as you get older, more changes happen. It is easy, doesn't hurt. Go get checked! Much easier to take care of small stuff than when it gets more serious. :)

@RedhatPat Believe me, getting your eyes checked is the least intrusive test you'll ever have.

It's also not a binary thing, needing glasses - many, many shades of less-than-perfect vision. At some point, you will most likely find you need a pair of cheap reading glasses. Don't do the male thing and resist. It'll just mean months/years of suffering out of pride.

If you're really averse to the idea of testing, go into a drug store, head over to the reader glasses section and try on some pairs of varying strength. You might be surprised how much they help when you didn't even know they would. If they do, get to an optometrist and get checked.

I gotta agree. I still use the grand, but the woodvil gets used more. It doesn't stress my hands as much.

Hiya Pat. Wish you were around more often too so us newcomers could get to know you better. Love your sense of humor. It really is a good idea to get your eyes checked. If you don't have any significant vision problems, they might say you could benefit from glasses, but that doesn't mean you would have to get them. However......eye exams can often detect other health issues that seemingly have nothing to do with your eyes. Hope you have no other health issues, but if there were any, sometimes they can catch them early with an eye exam. I was having vision problems, but after I got contacts, it seemed my vision without them was much worse, I'm sure it's because I got used to seeing better, so I noticed more how bad it was without them, so I can understand not wanting to get them if you don't have to.

Well we finally made it to Texas, my brother drove up from Austin to help us move our stuff into temporary store for the time being until we find a permanent place to live. I'll start work in about a week an a half and am excited to start a new chapter in my life. Today, since it's now after midnight I'm officially a civilian and no longer a technical sergeant in the USAF. Now I'm a SpaceX Test Technician and can't wait to listen to those bad boys roar and smell the RP-1 fuel in the air, this is gonna be exciting.

If you are having any vision isses at all, it means you should have had an eye exam years ago. If you don.t catch it, the eye strain from trying to see just puts more strain on your eyes d they get worse faster. You can get the exam d an RX from the eye Dr, but get the lenses & frames done online for cheap.

My cousin (my moms cousin really) works for NASA, he's been there at JSC for a long time, at least for as long as I can remember. He used to work in the shuttle program and when that went away he moved to the pressurized and unpressurized cargo integration office and is the program manager. He was real excited for me when we heard I was trying for SpaceX. He said he goes to SpaceX HQ quite often for meetings and such.

I love our NASA people! I worked across the street from NASA in the early 80's with the woman whose husband was the Captain of the 747 that piggy backed the Shuttle around. They always flew over NASA to line up with the runway coming into Ellington. Someone would call her that they were coming in, we'd announce it over the store intercom, d the place would empty to go watch & wave. It was awesome! I.m so glad your cousin has survived all the changes. But that cardboard Shuttle out front is an incredible insult considering all Houston has done for the space program d the huge part we've played in it's history. Because we all know thw quote is "LA, we have a problem."
