Thanks Alice! It is a ton of work, but no shows until after January now so a little break. He is only 15 months old so he still has some growing up to do.

Over the years I had only one heavy/long coated show dog (the rest Mastiffs and a few Rotties), a Briard. She had an especially heavy undercoat!!!!!! Way too much work for this girl!!!!!!! It was enough work to bathe and lightly trim several Mastiffs!!!!!! Then there's carrying a bunch of huge crates, and x-pens, enough for the show site and for the motel. Last few years I carried site crates, for a friend, who had Mastiffs, so at least three extra crates, most weekends. It's a wonder I even have any functional "back" left. We had a Mastiff sized grooming table made, lower, longer, thicker plywood, and a fold up, wood, step "stool", for center support. That was one of the least injury producing pieces of gear.

There's no way I could do that today!!!!!!! It was a blast for years!!!!!!!

Hugs, Alice

Don't you have to protect his coat from breaking? Or do the Cockers have a tough enough coat to withstand "down time?" BTW... I grew up with an English Cocker and, of course, one of the very best dogs that ever existed!!!!!! Cissy Briard's undercoat was extreme, but thankfully her "goat coat" was extremely tough, so that part did well in our rough environment. I swore, that if I ever got another Briard, I would look for a line that produced almost too little undercoat. All the time we had Briard hairs that got snagged on things all over the house. First time took her to an almost exclusively Afgan groomer, she informed me, after 8 hours of grooming (Cissy even went back next day for a few hours), Afgans were "nothing" compared to Cissy Briard. This was after I hadn't groomed Cissy for a few months. Bad Momma!!!!!!!!

BTW..... I love it when puppies, or very young dogs, go Breed over Specials!!!!!

Hugs, Alice

I am not totally sure about English cockers, but American Cockers like boy are not double coated breeds. I do have to take care of the coat, a good daily brushing, not too much running in the mud and a good bath every week to 2 weeks. Without having him in shows though I can just let the hair grow out, and give that much better options for grooming when he goes in next.

And yes I love when young dogs go over specials too, that was over 4th ranked American Cocker in Canada too :D

Owls are very very cool creatures. And they don't take no guff.

No they don't they had some words with the dogs when they went after him. But he did come back which is a good thing cause there's some of them Norwegian rats out there.

This is my diva Bubbles, she can have such an attitude at times. She has to have attention when she wants to. She is also such a scaredy cat, someone knocks on the door and she goes "hopping" to the bedroom (when she runs she actually hops along its so cute)

This is my Garfield just chilling in the puzzle box. He loves to chill in any box. Whenever my wife is brushing her hair he comes running and keeps "yelling" at her until he gets brushed.

This is our guest for another couple of days. She is a little purring machine.
