Oh no, I'm glad I haven't filed anything down yet. I thought we were supposed to file the contact, but then I hear it called a pin? Or is the contact not a pin? Is there a photo that shows these parts?

Is it the pin that touches the atty and the 'contact' that touches the battery? Somebody straighten me out. :)

If you have the new contacts (spring and firing pin are GOLD), don't file anything, it will remove the gold plating. Just clean both with some alcohol and a q-tip, if it really needs it.

Just to clarify, for those who are reading but don't have a REO yet, the firing "pin" is the long strip of metal that the "fire button" pushes down to contact the battery positive terminal, thus completing the circuit. The "spring" is the actual spring thingy that sits below the battery, waiting for one of us to short out the REO with a defective atty, or poorly built one, then dutifully drops down to break contact with the battery, giving it's life to keep our faces from melting.

I'm not sure what I'm seeing at the top right-hand part of the second (red) photo. Are those two things in that hole, one being the 'contact' that touches the battery? Or do I see a reflection? I think the problem is in using 'contact' for 'pin' or vice versa. It could mean the same thing, which makes sense, but confuses me sometimes unless I know the specific part being addressed. I'm used to seeing the tanks where the contacts are a pin at the bottom of the atty and a pin at the top of the mod. Then there's the contact that touches the battery. Lot's of contacts.

And now I'm totally confused by everyone's different use of the word 'hybrid'. I don't think I'll ever figure it out.

Sorry about that confusion. A long time ago, the flat metal object with the point that touches the top of the battery was referred to as the firing pin. The problem was that people were expecting to see a pin, literally. So I changed my photos and called it positive battery contact so the pin reference wouldn't confuse those who couldn't see past the pin reference.

Edit my post if you think it will help Lisa. Or delete it.

No, don't delete things. lol And I can't be sorted out. Well, that's what my mother always said (just kidding). I just need to stop sweating the details and start hearing pin when contact is said, and vice-versa.

I really do appreciate you all for trying to help me. I'm brand spanking new to this Reo but I'm really loving every minute of it. And I'm having fun just reading the Reo experiences of others. Thanks for your help! :)

How does one go about sending a REO back for repairs? My little pre-owned OG mini has issues with leaking. I tried to see what the problem was last night and the little silicon sleeve on the pin was filled with juice. Eeew. Under the atty was white bubbly stuff like the 510 grommet was oozing out. Double eeew.
Should I PM Rob? Just send it in with a note? Priority?

Both. I have sent mine in in the past after a quick PM and i send it in with no battery and no juice bottle after it's been cleaned.

Not everyone is as keen on my juice on them as i am! I have always had the mod back inside a week.
Priority or not is your call...but i'd hate to be without one for long.

Can anyone provide me with any fixes for misfires? Last thing I want to do is send my baby back and be with out her again(I already sent back for same issue a month or two back). The Grand misfires and when I take the door off I see sparking at the firing pin/positive side of the battery. When it will 'suddenly' decide to fire correctly, the sparking is gone. I had this issue previously with the Reomizer. It was fixed and subohm kit installed.

I've since been using the Reomizer 3 and now the same 'disease' is starting all over again. I vape anywhere from .6-.8 ohms and use VTC5 or Orbtronic flat top batteries for sub-ohming.

Yes, I've cleaned the mod thoroughly. Yes I've cleaned the pin & battery with alcohol. Yes, I've tried Noalox on both the pin & battery. Why does the same problem keep occurring with this mod? It's very very frustrating. If you have any suggestions I'm willing to try anything before I end up sending this thing back for a 2nd time. It's only 5 months old and this is really getting ridiculous! Hellllp!!

...and thank you, Reonauts!!

Okay thanks Beast. Now she's vaping like a champ. Just wish everytime I used it, it was consistent.

I am fanatical about checking my wires(if you mean the kanthal in the posts, not touching top cap or deck, etc.) so I just checked again and they are perfect. Screws are not loose in the posts so that's perfect too.

The spring & battery look okay. Not overly compressed. The spring to the Reo body appears fine(I checked the screw and it hasn't loosened if that's what you meant. I'm assuming the atty 510 and Reo 510 are making contact, as the atty's center post is down(not flush) ever so slightly. When it doesn't misfire, like I said--I'm in heaven!

I have made it part of my daily routine to clean the firing pin & battery head/battery bottom with alcohol before use. Some days it hits good all day. Then all of a sudden-bam! It'll misfire for a day(or two or three).

I just done know what to try next. Thank you for all your help though. I will keep checking those things you mentioned from time to time, just because I'm not in the habit of checking the spring and the 510 connections. All those others, I'm pretty good with. Even cleaning, I do about once per month. So now she's vaping great. It'll probably do that and then suddenly I'll have misfire issues again. The only thing that gets hot is the flat top. The Reo pin & spring are cool. Even the bottom of my batteries seem cool to touch. ARGHHHH!

Don't get me wrong--I couldn't live without my Grand. I love it. Just lately, she's a very temperamental girl...
