Replacing cartridge wool

Oh, hi there.

After a while the wool in my cartridges seems to lose its fluffiness and that stops the liquid from flowing through it easily. It'd be nice not to have to keep buying new empty cartridges, so is there anything you can replace the wool with once it stops working?

There are many things people have found work great as a substitute for the filler ...just lately I have been experimenting with very loosely rolling up a piece of kitchen paper towel to just fit easily into the cart and trimming it to the length of the cart. After some trial and error I have found it seems to work great if you make sure it isn't too tightly rolled or packed into the cart.

I am trying to get away from using any polyester fibre because I am convinced it gets onto the coil and I don't want any chance of inhaling the fumes from polyester.

are you allowing the ptowel to touch the coil??

Hi cosican....it's still morning for me.lol......I have been using the paper towel for a few days now and am thinking this might be what I stick with ...now that I seem to have worked out how loose it has to be to work right and yes every time I fill or replace it I make sure it is level with the top of the cart to ensure it touches the wicking mesh over the coil. ( I had thought the paper towel was going to be useless at first but the art is in making sure you don't roll it too tight or pack it in the cart too tight)

Good luck I would be interested to hear if you find it any good as well. .....I must stress that I found for it to work it mustn't be compressed in the cart it has to fit without any compression.

Do you think you could take a picture of how papertowel you put into a cart? How you bunch it up? etc... as well, is it one ply or two ply? Specific brand?

Roll just a small peice of the paper towel just the way you would roll a carpet the thickness of the roll tube being just right to push into the cart without compressing it....then trim it off with scissors.... it really seems to work great as long as you get it to fit without compressing it at all.....I haven't experimented with any particular types of kitchen roll ...I guess some might be better than others....I only have the cheap supermaket own brand rolls. I am quite pleased with how well it works now that I understand that it mustn't be compressed or squashed into the cart. My tendency at first was to roll it too tight and squash it into the cart but the art is to go for just the opposite and use as little as possible to fill the cart it needs all the 'air' space. I nearly gave up on this idea until I realized that.

How would you say it compares to the normal material? Does it hold more liquid? Get more out of it?

I have only been using it for a couple of days....but it seems to be wicking 'better' than the original cart material now that I have got the idea of how to do it...it takes possibly just a couple of drops more liquid than the polyester did.

I did exactly as you said, rolled. not to tight, fit and cut and dripped til it seemed nicely saturated and a very full flavor and good flow and draw

I am a convert thanks SPete and kinda cheap

Guess I thought, "that would be too obvious," or something. So yes, it absorbs the liquid quite well, and holds on to it just enough to avoid spilling but still keep the atomiser mesh wet. I'll definitely try this out for a while. Woo. Thanks.

Any other ideas are still welcome, of course.

Great to hear it's working for u guys as well......I am starting to think this is the idea I am going to stick with now....I really didn't want any chance of vaping polyester material.

I have been w/ my PTowel for an hour, I am finding, it MAY not stay as fresh as I may like, I know it is early and to keep replacing the pt, certainly no big deal, nor costly and a great alternative than buying new empty carts, I just save all my carts and replace the filler

I have used it for my 801, maybe it may hold longer for a 901, cos it is smaller, your thoughts

I'm gonna try the paper towel thing as well. But the duckies? I'm not sure what they will taste like. I'm gonna look for p-towels with burgers or pizza. Maybe I can kill two birds with one stone here.

This is interesting cos. My batting refills last at least a couple of days (if not more). I'd like to know how long this is holding up too.

Lu - You mean the material holds up a couple days, right?? You don't vape a couple of days on a refill do you?

This is one problem I hope we're able to resolve. I realize it's not too big a deal to top up a cart, but it tends to get annoying after a while. I'm looking into a stainless steel polyester mesh combo.

Lu - have you pulled apart a Vapor King cart yet? Looks like there's a wire all the way up the center of the filler material, and it's a very compact filler, not loose like a standard cart. Interesting stuff.

If you don't find the paper towel roll seems to work very well try rolling even less paper...the thing is that the stuff needs room to be able to expand. It's surprising how little of the paper it needs to work.

I'm going to try this in my 801 tonight, it sounds awesome, and everyone has paper towels laying around. The polyester I've been trying hasn't been working to well, lots of extra threads sticking out.
