Here is another Idea I am experimenting with tonight...I have taken a TEA BAG! cut it in half...to remove the tea......rolled up 'one' half inserted the 'tube' into my penstyle cartridge, trimmed the length and filled it with juice ....it took a suprising amount of juice to fill it but none of it poured out if I held it upside down or laid on its side.....and this is actually working quite well so far......the thing with the paper towel is that it does end up getting a bit mushy if you keep on drip refilling it....but the tea bag is made of hemp as far as I know and should last for quite a few refills. At the moment this seems possibly even better than the paper towel!

Lu - You mean the material holds up a couple days, right?? You don't vape a couple of days on a refill do you?

Lu - have you pulled apart a Vapor King cart yet? Looks like there's a wire all the way up the center of the filler material, and it's a very compact filler, not loose like a standard cart. Interesting stuff.

Right, the material holds up. Wish I could vape a couple of days on a refill. That would be heaven! :p

I haven't pulled one apart yet but any day now. It's finally getting past refilling :(

I wish I took a little more care with mine when I disassembled (read trashed it) it. I just pulled the guts out in a flurry of tweazer and needle nose plier tugging. So I don't really know how it's assembled...I can tell you what's in it though...

Mine had a huge burnt spot near the atomizer; and I mean black and charred. Not sure what the cart material is in that location, but it seems different from the rest, more cotton like than polyester, but I can't say for sure what the material is.

I went out yesterday to investigate more possible materials. One thing I looked at was a roll of gauze. Not sure about it though, it's 70% Polyester and 30% Rayon. The one thing we do know is that it's sterile, and additive free. Just not sure what properties Rayon has vs Polyester with regards to melting and what not. I do think a mesh material is the way to go, and I'm thinking even a mesh wrapped wire similar to the Vapor King cart, because that gives you access to the juice at the top of the filler material; the juice that never seems to make it to the atomizer.

Thanks surbitonPete for the paper towel idea. I was refilling with polyester fibre from walmart and was unhappy with loose threads everywhere. I have been using a paper towel now as per your directions in this thread. My Njoy pen style is working great. I am actually getting a better vapor hit also. I am able to add a lot of e juice and it is not leaking. Once again thanks for the great idea.

Hey if you can get a hold of some tea bags cut one in half get rid of the tea and do the same thing with the hemp paper it works even better

For what it's worth, I've been replacing the original material with natural wool batting that is used in comforters and blankets. I'm told it has no polyester andis 100% natural. I'm not a quilter or even a sewer so I have to take the word of the gal at the fabric store, but it sure seems to work good for me. It seems to have the same properties as polyester, and it seems to hold the fluid exactly the same. In fact, while vapoing, I can't tell the difference.

Pete, aren't tea bags made of either the same or very similar material as paper coffee filters?

If so, we could also try those.

I don't really know yvilla....I believe the diamond shaped tea bags are made from a polyester type material so I didn't use one of those...but it's possible the coffee filters might be made of the hemp......after using the hemp tea bag material for over a day now I would go as far as saying it actually works 'better' than the original cart material and I had only really been looking for something to eliminate the risk of vaping any polyester even if it didn't work as well.

Well first of all, I am wondering where you get hemp tea bags.

And secondly, I'm wondering how well they hold up. Can you use them for a couple of days before changing? I vape heavily. Personally, I really don't want to buy 10 tea bags for $4 and have them only last a few days......and have to keep changing them out.

So how are they holding up?

hey lu...wow tea is expensive over there!.....I think the coffee filter paper may well be made of the same stuff...the important thing seems to be in not using too much of the paper.. it doesn't seem to wick very well if it's compressed into the cart ........so far I have been repeatedly drip filling.. and it doesn't go 'mushy' like paper towel does in the end.

I am wondering if it might even be durable enough to wash.

I don't know about you but I think why the material needs to be washed or replaced regularly is that it gradually gets full up with all the unvaporized oily constituent of our juice.....that's why they still seem to be very 'wet' yet not producing much vaper.

Yeh, specialty tea bags get expensive around here. I've never seen hemp ones which means you would either have to get them at a specialty store or online....whic means mo' money....lol

Now I don't know what the brown coffee filters are made of.....or how long they would last either. I hope someone lets us know if they try it. I use instant coffee so I don't have any around to try myself.

I'm all in if one of these lasts for a few days like my batting does. I just don't want to have to change the things every time I turn around.

BTW....notice any change in flavor, by chance?

I haven't noticed any change in flavour at all...a stronger better quality kitchen paper towel roll than the one I had originally used might be worth a try..I shall have to check out the more expensive brands of those when I go to the supermaket...but at the moment the tea bags seem to be working as well as it can possibly get with any wicking material.

Has anyone tried 100% cotton balls Yet?

I have tried that Ann...it soaks up plenty of juice but doesn't seem to wick very well. The art is in finding a material that always wants to pass the juice on to the 'dryer' atomizer metal wicking mesh but the cotton just seems to want to hold on to the juice.

i am using scott brand of paper towel. I like it better than the polyester fiber. It holds more liquid and it is easier to change. I use about 3 inches long for a pen style cart).i loosely roll it and it goes right in. With polyester you have to work it in to the cart and there are loose threads to deal with. Paper towel just slides right in.

You might find that a much shorter length actually works even better.

Although I am finding the tea bag is working great at the moment because the hemp paper doesn't go mushy if I keep on refilling it ....I am going to try a much better quality paper towel to see how it goes.
