Maybe a stupid comment, but I am a bit surprised that paper towel does not burn from the heat of the atomiser. In my 901 the cart sits right down into what looks like an element (new to ecigs, still working on the terminology). Anyway, I thought what happened was this "element" touches the wadding and atomises the nic/PG. I would have imagined that paper towel in proximity to this heat would at least run the danger of combusting or charring potentially contaminating the vapour.

Am I misunderstanding the mechanism?

I'm probably wrong, but I think the "element" you see is actually the ... uh "wick" I guess, and the heating part is inside the atomizer. The part sticking out draws the liquid in but only heats through contact with the atomizer inside.

I've been doing this for almost a month, so I'm still pretty new and doing a lot of guessing

Hi all, I've been trying to use some coffee filter to refill my 401 carts and I seem to have some trouble getting the right amount. It seems that there is a lot of the liquid left in the filter material when the cig starts to produce less vapor.

With the polyfill I've just been pushing it to the bottom of the cart and pulling it back up to get vapor production again. With the coffee filter I can't do this and it seems like I'm putting in a lot of juice that never gets vaped.

So my question is, has anyone used teabag/coffee filter with a 401 cart and what size is the strip you're rolling up. I'm using a strip as wide as the cart and about 3-4 inches long. Is this too much?

Ah, that would make sense. Thanks.

I read this and other threads about using a napkin/teabag/papertowel for the cart. O.K. I tell myself, these guys know what's what so I will try it.
I am very new to this stuff. I tried it. The teabag wrapped it's self around the wick, no harm done. Tried again and again with ever small rounds of teabag/papertowel/napkin until I was down to about a 1/8 of an inch. I was surrounded by bits of paper, I wasted 2 hours and at least 20 refills..lol
Today I got my first 901! The lights blinked on. I was trying to do all this with a KR808!!! There is only about a b b 's worth of wool at the bottom of the cart. Somehow I missed the part about using a big kid PV and not the kiddie size. I was amazed at how much wool or whatever that stuff is, that's in a 901and how much liquid you can put in. Not to mention "Here there be VAPOR". Now I can Quit analogs.

I have a 901, and I use about 3 1/2 inch strip coffee filter, trim the rest that sticks out the top. Yes I have to prime it a lot at first. I save my old filter carts so I can express the left over nic juice later. Some times I have to blow out the juice that has flooded the atty and it will start to vape again.

I do find that the tea bag cannot just keep on being topped up....after a while it's hardly producing any vapour even though it so full it will hardly soak up any drips....I think the problem is that it hangs on to the 'oily' part of the juice...so it needs taking out and washing...a fresh dry one will take loads of juice again and work great for quite a while before it needs topping up.

How many days before you change to a new roll of tea bag?:)

Pete - yes, that's what i meant by an earlier post (#133) about possible chromatography effects. Because paper is composed of fine capiliaries in a way that the poly matting is not, i could see it might separate the components of the liquid. This effect is compounded by the polar nature of paper's cellulose fibres, which will hold onto some of the juices constituents more strongly. There may be changes in vapor volume and taste between the start of a cart and the end.

I like the fact that paper is natural though. If we could find a looser matting style of 'paper' that would be ideal.

Hey kinaba.....I certainly like the taste and the vapour when I am using a nice fresh one, it somehow seems much 'cleaner'...so I don't mind the fact that it seems to be wasting a bit of liquid....but your theory makes complete sense and is probably exactly what is happening.

A quick google for 'hemp fibre matting' found this:

This is the kind of thing I suggest as the next step forward.

ps: hemp seems a good choice because the fibres are strong.
