If you could fit the DMM in the box it would be cool - and add a discharge button to it.

having a super hard time with the silver wire, wondering if nickel will work better.

Nickel does work better but don't give up on it. Takes a little practice, play around with the voltage and make sure you have a good contact on the wire. I also found it helped to try and hold the wires together as long as possible after the spark, I know it's a little tricky when you can't see though :)

thanks bud, ill keep on it. i was thinking of putting a volt meter on this baby, and then BAM...you find one for me.

i also saw this one, 40mmx40mm:

More of a lurker than poster these days - but when I have a constructive contribution I feel compelled to post...

Note that most digital displays require a 3.3 V to 12 external power supply requiring additional components.

Perhaps something like this meter would be more suitable at achieving simplicity and keeping costs down

Nice gsa, now find me a smaller size... too big for my use.

How about this

But I like the HF idea mre777

Harbor Freight had a sale this past weekend and they had little cheap DMMs that run on a 9v bat for 2$ so I bought four of them :D I'm gona rip one down and mount in a box with the flash and posts so it will read volts out and have terminals for resistance checking as well.

That's a 2-6S lipo voltmeter, chances are it will only read up to ~30V.

Good point, I hadn't thought of that. I have one (similar) that I could try, still haven't sourced my camera yet. Been busy with other projects.

But by that time you guys will have it figured out for me :D

Yeah Tom's right. The range is too low. We need 300 plus VDC.
I found and ordered a 333.3VDC small meter for $5.80. Dimensions: 40.5mm x 24mm x 17.5mm
Just won't push it to the flash max of 345VDC
