When asked about my vaping device I say it's an electronic cigarette replacement device. Now I know it takes longer to say that than to call it an ecig, but I think it's a more accurate description. Maybe if we stopped calling our devices ecigs, which they're NOT, it might cut down on some if the negative verbiage. Eventually. Maybe. Well, couldn't hurt . . .

I agree. However, if you call them a vaporizer, personal vaporizer, advanced personal vaporizer, or electric cigarette replacement device, people will do this.

Call them an electric cigarette and people will likely know what you're talking about. ;) :thumb:

It is what it is.
Yes, I know they know what I'm talking about, but I think the information reaches their brains in a different way. The next thing I'm usually asked is, "How's it working for you?" I answer that I haven't smoked in nearly 2 years and feel great, even lost a few pounds. If they're a smoker, maybe they'll give it a try. Maybe they'll pass it along to a smoker they know. But I've never gotten any derision.

It is funny that this is brought up. The place I work I was the first to start using an APV on a daily basis, a few more have joined ranks since.

I still have to / had to go outside to the smoking area. Initially people would ask me 'what is that thing??' I would explain the electric smoke, vaporizer, etc.

Fast forward a couple of months and now my still smoking team members ask me 'Want to go for a vape ?' It is very cool that people at work have accepted vaping as a real deterrent to smoking and have actually started using the 'correct' terms :)

How about "Alternative Nicotine Delivery System"? Honestly, keep-it-simple-stupid really is the best practice. I mean you could call french fries "fried potato sticks" and be more accurate (I mean, who would fry a french person for dinner?), but I bet it wouldn't catch on. I use ecig as my initial answer to the "what's that" question.

I always call mine a PV. If someone then looks puzzled has questions I give them the rundown, and will often even break down the device to show them the components. I also explain the composition of the Eliquid as well as the cost and health benefits.

IF I heard all that smatta after a simple question, I would run away from you. TMI. I am all about KISS.

e-cig to most people is all they need for an explination. trying to call it some crazy fancy name to make it out to be something else is going to make people look at you sideways. Heck I work and a B&M vape shop and love doing so but using crazy new terms to someone first starting or just looking into it will scare them away. Now once they do get into it then you can slide in terms like PV, APV, mod, and so forth.

With my MVP and Nautilus I often catch people checking it out and staring at me like I'm some sort of alien creature or something lol. People at the casino often ask me what it is. I just say e-cig to start then they get it and if they show any interest I'll go further. Where I live most people are just used to seeing small ego setups and when they see my big tank with big battery they don't know what to think. I like the fact that they look and are nothing like a cigarette.

I usually use an Eroll when out and about but have used an ego setup. When asked about that, I first call it my PV. If asked what that is, I say my Pacifier. If they then say, "Oh, you mean an ecigarette," I ask if it looks in any way like a cigarette. But that's said with a smile. That usually ends it. As time has gone on, that happens less and less.

Oh this dead horse yet again, I thought I smelled something rotting in here. Seriously, calling a turd a chocolate bar isn't going to make anyone more receptive to eating it. Calling an ecig something different isn't going to change someone's mind. It really makes you sound like you are trying to be deceitful about what it is. It would be 1000 times better to say: "it is an ecig, but I have read all of the studies on them and the media isn't being truthful about them."

It really doesn't take long to explain and most people who ask are genuinely interested. Notice I said I only give them the rundown if they look puzzled or have questions. I don't force the information on anyone.
