Hi,
Yesterday my Absolute Maxx arrived. (2 starter kits + 3 add'l batteries + 4 add'l atomizers.) I wish I would have read about primer fluid in the atty before I started.

My problems is a very nasty taste, I'm assuming from the primer fluid, that won't go away. I'm on my 3rd atomizer & I blew it out first & no nasty taste with this one.

My question is how can I rid those other attys of that god awful burnt metallic taste?

BTW Thanks for pointing me to the 510. I think it's going to work out well for me. The size & button pushing are taking some getting used to--with the smaller vape I would often keep it in my mouth like a pacifer & puff as I typed or whatever. I know I will get used to it. I need to figure out how much nicotine I need in the juice to keep me comfortable. Terrible first thing this AM. Tried vaping but after 30 min I couldn't stand it & had an analog. Any ideas?

Kudos also to Maxx. $58 for a 2 atty 2 battery starter kit with a flat $17 shipping charge--less than 2 weeks. Answered my pre-purchase emails quickly. I thought 510 batteries were 3.7 but the manual says 4.2. I'm getting about 5 hrs on a charge. The light doesn't blink but by then it seems to be falling off.

BTW If my current supplies last me 6 months, then vaping will be cheaper than analogs. I was rolling my own for about $1.20 pack which would be great!

TIA
Doris

Hi Doris,
Most of the time the burnt metallic taste is from not enough liquid in an atomizer (especially if you've blown them out really well). You need to reprime the atomizer bridge really well after blowing out to avoid that. It is also good to let the liquid soak in for a little while with a new atomizer.

Try priming them well with your e-liquid (4 drops) and letting them sit for a good few hours. You can blow out a little bit of that added liquid later if you have flooded it (and aren't getting good vapor after drawing on it a bit). Add primer drops to the bridge as you get the atty going again as necessary to make sure it is kept plenty wet.

If you still have a burnt vapor after the above, you can try cleaning the scorched wicking (which is a fireproof fiber that wicks the liquid and sits under the metal bridge just above the atomizer wire). An easy way to clean is to soak for a few hours in Pure Grain Alcohol such as EverClear or a good quality Vodka. Blow out after soaking and shake the atomizer (like a thermometer) to clear any liquids. The PGA will evaporate quickly. Prime well with your e-liquid and keep adding more drops to the bridge for the first few minutes as necessary at the first time of an off taste until you get a good clean flavor vapor without hint of metallic or burned flavor.

Personally, I don't find bad taste in the primer fluids that are shipped with atomizers these days and haven't bothered to blow one out in a good 8 months. I just drip my e-liquid on my new atty and vape away. The primer fluid is there for a reason and will protect you from a quickly scorched new atomizer. It is only a PG liquid... so nothing to be afraid of. At one time, poor quality (flavor) priming liquid was used and people got in the habit of blowing them out. This flavoring has seemed to improve as of late with most models (including the 510).

You can always blow out a new atty later if you find the primer that is shipped in it doesn't vape out quickly, or the vapor from a poorly flavored primer has an intensely bad taste, but really I don't find it necessary.

On another note, the 510 performs best if you add one drop to the atomizer bridge every time you refill your cartridge. This will insure that you don't vape to the point of a dry atomizer which will cause scorched taste from a too dry scorched wick. A good habit with every 510!

As for nicotine levels when you start off, I found having one unique flavor of a high (24mg) around to use when I craved a cigarette really helped as did menthol flavored high mg liquid (for throat hit). Seems most women vape 12 to 18mg most of the day and a high mg for times of ciggy cravings. I tried 12mg all day and it didn't work so now I've settled to 18mg all day and still use menthol here and there. Takes a while to figure out what will work well, but it is worth it! Don't sweat having a few smokes until you do. :) Celebrate all the ones you've avoided!

Happy Vaping! :vapor:
