It was my experience, in my younger days, the kids we called "punks" as in the punk look. (spiked hair with different colors, and dressed in all black) Those kinds of people where actually highly intellegent kids with very creative minds. I didn't dress that way, but liked being friends with them, they were really missunderstood. At that time they had been very nice polite people who just dressed differently, probably because of the creative brain of theirs. I think now it is more of a fashion statement, but back in the day if I saw someone with a mowhawk, I learned I wanted to get to know that person better. And those are the people that I could always count on, if a guy was getting out of hand with me at a party they were the 1st ones to come to my rescue.

As for the kids, maybe this is my older age showing, but it seems like more kids don't understand or have respect for other humans and human life. I don't know what it is, or how to teach that. But, maybe its just my age, because they probably said the same thing about us. Heck my mother blames the whole teenage pregnancy thing on sex education. (as in teaching children about their bodies and where babies come from, not the passing out of condoms.) She honestly believes we shouldn't be telling kids it takes a sperm and an egg to make a baby, that's why they have sex. (not because it feels good) She won't admit that girls got pregnant in the 50's too, it's just that they had no choices.

Anyway sorry this happened to you MK. Are kids really worse than when we were kids or is it just that the bad eggs stand out so much we want to think so?

This shows the generation gap

When I was growing up it was :
. Slang
a. A young person, especially a member of a rebellious counterculture group.
b. An inexperienced young man.

So when my generation says "punk" this is more than likely what is meant.....

another generation gap- My 21 yr old son had to tell me what a MILF was.........OMG I was shocked! Because I was out with the girls Friday night and a kid my son's age said he liked them and I thought he was trying to say milk!

LOL, your post made me laugh. I'm used to MILF, but I get called a GILF now that I'm a Grammy! That's just not right.

Working retail, I've noticed that the worst-behaving kids are usually attached to parents who also display less-than-desirable traits. It goes down through generations.

I have to wonder why some of these parents even had children to begin with. They don't seem to enjoy parenthood, many don't seem like they even like their own kids... WHY HAVE KIDS?

We really need to stop promoting parenthood as something that everybody needs to do. Many aren't cut out for it, and their children suffer for it. And then grow up to be assclowns like the one MK mentioned.

I agree 100%. I have quite a few friends that didn't have children and it was by choice. They didn't have the maternal instinct and I respect them for realizing that. Not everyone wants to have children and we as a society shouldn't make people think they're less if they don't want them.

I agree! I knew a lady once who couldn't have kids..they went through all the fertilty stuff and besides being expensive and degrading..it was all for nothing.
I asked her why she just didn't adopt? She said she didn't want kids anyway, but her husband did..and only one of his own. I was reeling with shock! This people didn't need to own a dog, much less have a child!

Here, here, I so agree with this. Quit pushing this idea that you aren't a person until you are a parent. That your life isn't fulfilled until you have children. If you don't have a need for children then it's OK to make that choice.

Some people are really not meant to be parents, and really shouldn't be.

I also work in a retail store and its always amazing to me how parents let their kids ransack the toy aisle, like its their own personal toy bin. Usually when I finally see the kids with the parent it starts to make perfect sense. These are usually the parents telling their own kids that they are, and I quote, ".......ing driving them crazy and if they don't stop they will get their a** beat". Real class. I agree that not everyone should be a parent. I know I am not responsible enough for kids so I don't make babies. I do have three step-children and I am learning how to deal with them, but its never been cussing them out and letting them run loose in public. This is why kids grow up to be rude heathens, because that's all they've seen growing up.

When my kids were small and we'd go to Wal Mart the first thing they'd ask if they could go to toys. I said "No, when I'm done shopping we will go to toys". They would reply with "Well SoandSo's parents let them go to toys by themselves" My reply, "and that's exactly why you can't!" They weren't allowed to go to toys by themselves until my son was around 12 and by then they didn't want toys they wanted electronics. Now I'd give anything for my 17 year old to ask to go look at the toys :D

I owned a video store and I am hear to tell you it's not just the toy isle! I watched the kids knock all the videos off the shelves on the lower isles. Once I was really P.O.ed when a parent just stood there and watched..she giggled and said "sorry". So I said "me too!" "it's going to take you an hour to put them all back..alphabeticly!"
She did..not very well but at least she controlled the kids from then on! Her kids were the worst I had ever seen. They must have been caged at home.
My store was in an area of town that was very old, but in the heart of a really upscale neighborhood. Let me tell you all the diamonds, limo's, yacht's and big shot husbands in the world..do not equal class.

WTG MK!! Preach it, sister!

When you bring a child into the world, you are telling society that you will do your best to train your child to mesh within society in 20 or more years. It doesn't matter what neighborhood you live. Stand up parents are stand up parents. There are thugs and dope pushers from all walks of life....from every residental section. Being a responsible parent is one of the hardest jobs that parents have. There are so many parents who allow their kids to not only run over them, but everyone else as well. That's how America grows selfish , I want it now kids. I've been a single mom. I wouldn't let my son railroad me and he would test me....oh would he push. One time he got me crazy (he was a teenager) and I said, "Son, pick out your coffin as I'm about to kill ya." Now he has 3 small girls. His time is coming. 3 daughters and one wife w/pms at the same time.....I call that giggle time!

Why, on EARTH, are there kids like this on the planet? Payton was taught the same thing Stover's were, please, thank you and excuse me as soon as she could TALK. We live in a pretty well-to-do area in Toronto and the kids in her class are downright RUDE!! And talk about 'I want it NOW' kids!! There is no way, in HELL, that a 6 year old child needs to wear Ugg boots to school. There are FOUR of these little 'Princessess' in her class. When Payton came out with the obligatory, but so and so's mom bought her Uggs, I came back with the EQUALLY obligatory, 'Then you go live with HER parents and write me when you take a break from SHOPPING, will you?' response of my own.

I must admit that I STRONGLY disliked children. I NEVER thought I'd have one of my own and I admit that I am EXTREMELY lucky with Payton. So far. My mom always said God must've known that if He sent me one of THOSE kids, He'd be getting them back a lot sooner than they were scheduled to be!

Shoulda SMACKED them MK!! Or their PARENTS...

My dad always said children are blessing from somewhere, yes he is a joker. I don't like kids either and yes I have 3, but saying I don't like kids isn't really the whole truth I don't like other peoples little wild things.

My children were not born with a halo or wings, they are not angels and when they do wrong they get in trouble for it, that is why they are fairly good kids.

I have a brag on my oldest he is 10, and his teacher called in shock that he is so polite with thank you and yes ma'ams. The call struck me as weird I mean really I'm guessing its such an oddity nowadays that it has to be called out. It's really sad and one of the main reasons I could never be a teacher.

+1 Stephaniems!! I've had people remark that Payton is SO polite, etc. No she's NOT, she's doing what she SHOULD be, the only reason it's remarked upon is because of the snotty attitudes of MOST kids. It's really their parents that should be in trouble, but Ive always said that's true, TO A POINT. Once they get out in the world, even if mommy and daddy DIDN'T teach you that you can slide further on honey than you can on sandpaper, they should figure it out themselves...

And yes, Payton's wings aren't visible either, but a good kick to the rear end can make them 'sprout' in a HURRY at times..

When my kids were very little we were eatting at a restaurant. When we got up to pay, the cashier said it was taken care of and the gentleman said to say that the kids were VERY well behaved. He left them each a sliver dollar (we were in Reno, passing thru) We were floored. I didn't think they were noticably good..just normal. But they were not running around, crying or yelling "I want"..like some.
My son's teacher made me come in when he was in the first grade to tell me he had a behavior problem, Blinking like a fool, I said WHAT! she said he keeps saying yes maam, no maam (she said it in a whiney, mocking voice) I asked if he really sounded like that and she said no..he said it right. I told her off for being an idiot..it was called good manners and since the school is just off base she had better get used to it! What a waste of time.
I make it a policy when I see a kid opening a door, helping someone or picking something up for a lady..that I give the kid change or a dollar.( with parents permission) parents think I am a bit weird at first but it reinforces the good training...in both the kids and parents!
