QUESTION ON KAYFUN:

Mine should be here this week, can you pour liquid down the top chamber or do you have to use the filling hole? thanks in advance

There is a way to top fill them (google it) but it's not as easy as just popping off the top & dumping juice in. The bottom fill port is much easier IMO.

As for buying the real thing (kayfun) vs the various clones (russian from kebo excluded) I'd be wary. You don't know if you're going to get a good one or a bad one. Buying the real kayfun lite pretty much guarantees that you'll get a flawless unit. With that being said, I bought a eh pro kayfun lite clone from a madvapes retail store. The air hole was so tiny that it was pretty much unvapeable. I drilled out the air hole and it's now (I hate to say it) my favorite. The draw is so smooth and it's been the only one that has never, ever given me any trouble at all (after modding) I'm not against clones but with them being so mass produced with questionable quality control.. it's a crap shoot.

If I hadn't been comfortable using a drill on mine.. it would be useless.

I also have a R91%.. at first I didn't care for the finish but it has grown on me. The air flow control being on the side instead of the bottom, like the kfl+ is nice. The adjustable 510 pin is nice too but it tends to move around some. Every time I unscrew it from a device, I have to check it to make sure it's still out far enough before I put it back on. Not a big enough deal but when I first got it I didn't know this and my resistance was all over the place until someone told me that it was the connection. I thought about polishing it but I like it being different from the kayfuns.

Well I pulled the trigger. Can't wait but I'll have to. Won't be around when it get there. Gonna try a build with the stuff that comes with it first but it sounds like I'll need a thicker wire to achieve the higher ohm build.

Thinner wire has more resistance. Like a hose & water, send the same amount through a large diameter hose & it flows much easier. Constrict the diameter to a very small size & the resistance increases dramatically. Not a clue what comes with it, but you'll want some 30g at the thickest, I'd recommend 32g for what you're looking for.

Didn't realize a smaller # was a thicker wire

Yup, standard AWG (American Wire Gauge). Other things use it as well, such as hypodermic needles & body piercing jewelry. 32g is extremely thin, common household wiring is 14-10g, once you hit 0g there's a 00, 000 & 0000 is the thickest I've heard of. It's typically sized by actual measurement from there up (1/2", etc.)

Edit: For vaping the range is pretty much 32g on the thin side, 26g on the thicker side. 32, 30 & 28 being the most common. You can make a higher resistance coil with 28, but you need a longer length of wire compared to 30 or 32. Trying to make something in the range that you're after with 28 could very easily result in a coil too large to fit in the KFL/R91.

Just to expand on what Oz posted - On my 1.68Ω coil using 28ga Kanthal, I had a hell of a time getting the wire from the top of the vertical/chimney coil in place under the screw for the negative post. The nichrome wire my R91 kit came with was much too thin for me to work with. I think I'll be picking up some 30ga Kanthal here, soon...or try one of those trick diamond coils.

I didn't realize that it came with NiChrome instead of Kanthal. All the listings I've seen for them are pretty vague, just stating 'wire'. That'll change things up too. The thinner wire can be a little tricky to work with, but it's also easier to double up & do a twisted coil too. The other trick I use is flaming the wire at multiple points during the build - pull it off the spool, flame, do the wrap, flame, compress it (& flame/compress again if it's still fighting me a little bit), then install it.

Well, I'm just going by what Shek's post listed inside the kit. I'm not ready to try the twisted coils and such...yet. ;)

I may have to hit the hardware store after work this afternoon and see what kind of mini-butane torch I can pick up.

Twisted isn't any harder than a regular coil. I use a shepherd's hood dental pick made for woodworking. Just double the wire back onto itself, pinch the ends with a needlenose & put the hook in the loop. Twist it up & make your coil out of that. It lowers the resistance per foot by almost half & sort of acts like a thicker gauge wire in less space, with more surface area & it heats up quicker. Go to Lowes & look for the mini screwdriver/probe set - item #462429. It's got the perfect size screwdriver bits for RBA's & a shepherds hook that's perfect for doing it.

You also don't need a torch, you can just do it with any old lighter. I use Bic's because I keep finding them around the house.

Why do you guys flame the coil? I just connect it to the Kayfun and pulse the wire and compress right there. I figure if the goal is to get the wire hot, let the ProVari do the work. :D

Because it coils better & more consistently. Doing a twisted coil, it allows the twists to be even. When you're doing an 11 wrap coil, it shortens the legs, allows for better coil placement & puts more of the wire in play.

Finally got around to the Maha Ras that you sent me... you suck. That juice is fan-freaking-tastic... and now I can't get more. I've been checking their site twice a day waiting for another batch to be released.

If you didn't like the 710, you can always put it in the classies to trade for Maha Ras. Someone will probably take you up on that.

I only tasted a little bit of it so far. I don't remember it off the top of my head. It certainly didn't blow my mind like the Maha Ras did. I broke a tank & I've still got a few dozen bottles of various sizes, so I haven't been running through them all that quick. I haven't even touched the Pluid at all yet... but I keep eyeballing it. Just gotta have a tank to pull out of rotation for a while since I'm guessing it'll need new rings & a deep scrubbing after the Pluid. Being a tank down at the moment isn't helping it's position in the queue.

I'm starting to yearn for a KFL/clone now thanks to you folks(g).
And I'm using an IGO L to drip with -- doesn't get easier and I have at least a dozen bottles of different juices lined up here. Drip one, just before it gets dry, eight drops of whatever looks good next, and drip on. No cleaning and re-wick with cotton only takes a couple of minutes..
