I've had my e-cig for 3 days now, and was thinking eventually I'll have to clean the clearomizer. So I went to YouTube looking for videos, and found some that look exactly like mine (NicStick EGO Clear Express). The Stardust looks exactly the same in the video. CE4 looks exactly the same in its video. The Vision eGo clearomizer looks exactly the same in its video.

ARRRGH!

Are there generic names to refer to some of these apparently identical parts that different manufacturers brand differently? Or do we newbs just have to figure it out by trial and error and Google? It seems slightly shady that all these manufacturers are importing the same things from China or wherever and branding them differently so it seems like no one else has it.

Forgive me, I'm a little frustrated trying to figure this out.

It is a little frustrating. There are a lot of different manufacturers making the same type of clearo's, and for some reason they all have different names.

If you can post a pic, someone may be able to give you additional info on it.

If it is a CE-4 style, you cannot replace the heads, but can clean and dry-burn a few times (the technique would be the same, regardless of the brand); then toss it.

They do have others that can be called anything from CE-4 V2, or CE-5, or stardust replaceable to name a few. These have replaceable heads, that can be cleaned and dry-burned a few times, then you can replace the coil assembly as many times as you want, without having to replace the tank. These are also rebuildable but; that will come later.

welcome to vaping, everyone copies everyone elses copy.

the CE-4 is the original and the stardust is what one vendor wanted to call it(to pretend they invented their own version). then vision decided to make their own version and so on and so on.

in the end it is simply a clearomizer
some have replaceable heads, some do not. and the model number will vary depending on the version (ce 4 ce5 ce6) and so on
when I still used them i liked the kanger t2 and t3
now there are 100's of variation with redux and evods and protanks and............. well the idea is just find a clearo you like and look for more built the same way.

You've hit the nail on the head with my Pet Peeve. Manufacturers and/ or Vendors that rename vape gear. For new vapers it makes it really tough to compare prices and find decent reviews.
In regards to Vendors renaming this stuff it's "usually" the smaller companies. Also easy enuff for vendors to get the manufacturer to "re brand" them if the order is large enuff.

If you like the warmth of a top coil designed tank, like the CE4, I'd try out Innokin's iClear 16. They are great little tanks, fairly hassle free, and you can replace the coil heads and easily clean and dry burn them. They are a little more expensive than the generic CE5, but the vape quality is MUCH better. My coils last for weeks and weeks with a regular cleaning schedule. (That is, when I was using them a lot.) Don't worry, there is a huge learning curve and you will get there in time. Soon, you'll be helping out all the noobs too!

If it's a CE4 type, you can't replace the head, but you CAN rebuild it. There're videos on YouTube, and as CE4s are just press-fit, they're easy enough to pull apart, clean, and replace the wicks on.

I take it you've never rebuilt a CE4... I did shortly after they came out a year+ ago and they're prolly one of the tougher clearos to rebuild.

Thanks for the info guys, glad it wasn't just me!

I went to my local physical shop, Vaperite, and talked to the folks there. Actually being face-to-face with someone who is knowlegeable like you folks *really* helped!

Also, that shop was just flat-out awesome! They helped me pick out a Kanger Protank 2 Mini 1.5. to fit my existing eGo battery, then showed me how to assemble, clean and fill it. And it's great that it's only a couple miles from my apartment.

Anyway, here's my old clearo:
