-figured with the time to wait, might as well make one... a smaller model to go in my box mod. Turned the body from delrin and used the m1.6 x 8mm machine screws and m1.6 washers from Ace with a 3/32 piano wire spring from McMaster-Carr. Holds about 2ml of juice. Had to run both +/-V to top and anchored with the extra nuts at the bottom of post.

Make sure to let us know how it stands up to heat. I already have a request in to a local plastics company to see how much they would charge to produce these as they would be light weight and hopefully cheaper to get...

Also does anybody have any input into what type of plastic may be a better fit or if Delrin is pretty much the best choice because if it's ease of machining?

Dan how does your DSU compare with the Scubagen3 in daily use? It looks like the parts for that would be much easier to make. Looks like another good Delrin candidate =]

The first Scubagen was delrin, I think, back in another thread.

Robert

Your correct robert, the v1 was delrin. I had no problems with heat as the coil was about 1/4" above the deck as it were.

@bstedh The DSU works wonderfully, I would say not as much throat hit and the scuba, and it is a much cooler vape as compared to the scuba which is quite warm. I would like to try another version of the DSU v4 that uses not so many extensions... IE
Only 2 metal pieces, the top:
DSUv4_Top.jpg
And the bottom:
DSUv4_Bottom.jpg

Now I set this up with the concept of filling from the bottom so when the unit is filled, the juice does not flood the coil area due to no negitive air pressure. There are 4 total pieces minus the drip tip. The outer tube and the inner tube. Of course I would like to get some poly rod stock so I clould turn down so the rod to stair step like the tornado does.
Well it is a concept in progress.

Thanks all - esp. Dan for the great ideas!
wow! thats pretty good...

So Teach you have a lathe or did you use a gummy lathe..?.
Wood lathe.... I can only get down to about 200rpm so I'm sticking to the softer stuff.

delrin must turn like butteh
It is soft... thankfully, it doesn't melt the same!

What the diameter on that?

I want to see the finished product, and some action shots!!
Dan
5/8" on the base- same as the MAP...
Here's in the 18650 box.

Vapor blows out the autofocus, but you get the idea... and it's burning way too hot!

...ears perked up !!! A mini ????
I like the smaller tanks too - more unobtrusive...

Still trying to balance and trying different coils, ohms, and volts - It's way too hot for my liking. I must admit, there’s a temptation to try out the DSU too!

Looking GOOD!
About 2.0ohms for 3.7 is good, around 3-4 wraps with 32AWG Kanthal works for me.
DSU has a few more pieces to it, that is why I am gonna try v4. Fewer pieces to maintain and cheaper price point with only two metal parts.
How are the rounded washers working to hold the kanthal?
Nice set up!

Delrin seems to do fine with the heat - don't recommend long 'burns' like in my previous photo though.

I just got some polycarb and a lexan rod - it's supposed to be hard to work though. I'll let you know when I get a chance to work it.

I started at 36g 3 and 4 wraps, dropped to 34g 4 wraps (that’s the flamer at 4V), so next stop is 32g. I also went from the ‘standard’ width of mesh to a larger 1.25 ‘fat’ roll – didn’t affect it much.

The washers work pretty well, but take some work. The nichrome can slip more easily than with the beveled nuts. I used a small, rounded copper hammer to get the convex shape -man, those little boogars will squirt right across the garage!. I needed the extra overhead above the spring due to the bolt mount of the electrical… I probably could have used one bolt, but the 30ga lead wires don’t get as much contact when just trapped against the delrin. Soldering a lead to a washer or making a locking washer to grip the wire may work and give some extra space.

Thanks Dan.

Was sitting here trying to figure out why you are running so hot.... The only thing I see is that you are not at 32g Kanthal.... (yet)

Man give me some time to develope :)
Dan

Sorry Dan, I wasn't meaning to be pushy. I missed your last co-op and I was just expressing that I would rather not miss this one if it comes to fruition.
