About a year's supply if you make your wicks with a 40mm x 12mm size and you use one wick a week. Off course it can last much longer once you get into the hang of things. I guess a 400mm x 400mm could last a few years....

Why one a week? They don't wear out, I have used the same ss wick for three months and it is as good as new. Just wash wrap a new coil on it and reuse. I got two sheets of 15cm by 15cm and it will probably be all I will ever use.

I know the g-tank-us and the BFG is taking a lot of the space here, but after seeing asdaq's mod with the micro-g I beginning to wonder how much it would be to make a small run of those for myself and some friends. I can see myself taking the micro-g and a preciseplus10440 (or 14500 if Dave decides to make one) to black tie events. Classy!

BFG #2, Ok so I made another BFG this weekend, and have tried 3 different coils (since I have a REO to test on). The best setup so far is a 1/2" x 1.5mm vertical SS wick with silica rope wrapped around the base (not touching the coil). This allows for the silica to soak up the juice and then transfer it to the SS wick and then to the coil. I am using 4 wraps of 32 awg kanthal @ 1.7ohms, and this thing rocks.

I tend to not spend time scrubbing something that costs less than a gum ball to replace.

I know they don't hold a lot of liquid.....but there are many places that would come in handy.....bars, planes, restaurants....etc I have been interested in one or two since he made them.

Coils last me 4 to 5 days, ss wicks last a long time.
I understand this will vary by setup, but 4-5 days sounds like a pretty short lifespan. I've had the same coil now for around 3 weeks and it even survived removing a coil to reduce resistance. If it's setup properly, and not glowing regularly, why would a coil break after 4-5 days?

I replace coils every week or so, they would probably last longer but I like keeping the coils fresh... it costs about 2 cents to replace them, and it takes less than a minute to change, so why not!

There was a comment about it being a PITA to oxidize the wick... something is up there... because I can make a whole new wick and oxidize it in 5 minutes or less.

I think it's like anything else... once you know how to do it correctly, there's nothing difficult or time consuming about it.

I tinker a lot on my A2, same coil will be used for dripping for a few hour at 6v then with the cart at 5.4v then back to dripping, I vape very heavy 16 hours a day.

I make my coils from 32ga kanthal a-1 they last months. To clean I just dry burn and dunk in water while still glowing red. This flashes off most of the gunk in one shot. If it is not tasting right then I take the wick out and burn it up good with a torch then dry burn the coil with no wick. Everything turns to ash and falls off. Refill and it's all like new again.

Gotta love kanthal a-1, it can take some serious abuse. I do these extreme cleanings on purpose to see just how far I can push this stuff before it breaks. 1 ohm coils at 3.7V get HOT and I still haven't popped even one single coil yet.

I thought that the coils lasted a long time...

So, how long do they last?
