Searching for the tobacco flavor..

So far I have tried a few of the popular tobacco flavors (TFA Black Honey, Double RY4, Cubano, DK Type) and also Tribeca and Burley from other vendors. It's been a bit disappointing. The juices actually turn out quite good, i.e. they almost taste as good as the similar variety juice from local shops or online vendors. However, they all taste perfumey and sweet. In fact, my own DIY liquid taste a little less sweet since I only add 1 drop of EM or Carmel to my 5 ml batches.

But, none of these flavors really have a good smooth and robust tobacco taste, they all are just very flowery smelling. I don't think eliminating the Carmel or EM will make any difference.

Why are they so sweet and perfumey smelling? It almost seems similar to fast/popular food, where copious amounts of sodium and sugar are added to make things taste better, whereas, the "real" good taste appears when these unnecessary ingredients are taken out and one can taste just the real fresh food (may be with balanced and appropriate seasonings. Don't get me wrong, I like spices, seasonings and flavor, but it seems these flavors just have a SUGAR and FLOWER overload.

Is there any flavor out there that's not so?

Thanks

You may want to try something like this: http://www.ecigexpress.com/dirty-neutral-base-by-inawera-10ml.html

I guess I'm stating the obvious, but mix without the EM and caramel. I know you said they probably have little effect, but I think they have a huge impact, especially the caramel. Without eliminating them, you'll never know.

The other thing is that a couple of flavors you have are on the sweet side, and many people think that TFA's flavors are perfume-y. Try Hangsen (like the above poster mentioned) and Inawera for more robust tobacco flavors, but if you don't like the ry4, you may want to go with un-sweet tobaccos.

Using enhancers is not the same as tobacco extracts so this is why they add all that other stuff. It's hard to mimic an actual tobacco where as it's easier to mimic the enhancers used to flavor tobacco.

Also FA has some good tobacco the Tuscan reserve I use in many things to add a tobacco type note. And TFA which you probably used just needs a good long steep. The perfume taste will go away in time once the molecules have time to do their thing. M-Type is almost exactly like Marlboro after you let it sit for a few weeks. Most vendors don't steep so to improve those flavors they too need to age a bit. And some vendors just do ultrasonic steeping which speeds things along but nothing truly replaces time.

I don't know what you can add to your recipe for the taste and smell of a real cigarette ... But I can tell you what you will need if you want the taste and smell of a real cigar.

Here: 30 ml Cohiba Cigar (CT)

Start off with mixing it at about 13% ... Them just a little caramel flavoring and a sweetener such as cotton candy to taste.

Try some Madvapes Tobacco. It's their house blend and it's one of the closest tobacco flavors I've found ... probably better than Halo Torgue56. It's one of those juices that impresses me more than most, but the throat hit is also a little more than I care for, so I vape it here and there and not as an every day vape. One of the things you will notice is that when the bottle sits overnight a thin brown ring forms at the top of the bottle. I emailed them to ask about that and the response was that it was due to their proprietary ingredient that gives it that real tobacco flavor. Is it WTA? They didn't say, but I'd bet a buck on that.

Anyway, it's worth a try if you are looking for cigarette taste in a juice. The price is right at $13.99 for 50ml.

I love TFA RY4 Double mixed at 8% (I've seen some go as low as 5%). I noticed you didn't mention what percentage you mixed your too sweet and perfumey tobaccos at. Overflaving will definitely cause that. On another note I add caramel to mixes to sweeten them up on occasion. If your mixes are too sweet, definitely don't add the Caramel and EM. Good luck!

Cheers,
Steve

I am a + 1 on the inawera tobacco over the hangsen for that ashy cigarette taste. The s-camel + DNB + virginia TA is what your after. For a more exotic or pipe type vape I love the hangsens. But with either brand you can't go wrong. TFA are the worst to work with as far as tobacco goes. There often to sweet, artifical and perfumey.

Here is that epic thread regarding "just tobacco" flavor: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/diy-e-liquid/388751-just-tobacco-no-perfume-no-caramel-no-vanilla-no-tba.html

Every TFA tobacco I have tried, except for RY4D, tastes perfumey and flowery. As far as their RY4D, it is awesome! But for someone looking for JUST tobacco flavor, this may not be for you. :vapor:

The problem with that thread is the OP specified "just tobacco"..."no caramel, no vanilla" and in no time at all folks were suggesting RY's...sorry but thats the complete opposite of OPs inquiry

I like FA 7Leaves for its authentic tobacco taste. It's more of a "roll your own" tobacco than a Marlboro type, and it does have a sweet after taste which I wish wasn't there. But it is slight, and it's not Caramel or vanilla.

INW 7 Leaves also has a sweet and floral aftertaste.
Added some more TA Virginia and DNB.

There is something that ppl use to kill the sweetness but I can't remember what.
Sux getting old.
