Hello everybody, I remember reading about this a long time ago and now I cant find the thread.

Last week, one of my coworkers came up to me and showed me his new rig. He's been vaping for a month, maybe two. Mostly using cartotanks and some ego style stuff. Last week he shows me a RDA on a K100 running Dual coils. I didn't think much of it until later that day when I asked him some normal micro coil stuff(like diameter and ohms) Come to find out the store where he bought it built the rig for him. He had no Idea what his ohms were, what his batteries rating are or even how to build it. I was curious so I asked him If i could test it on my ohm reader and it came out at 0.5-0.45 ohms 8-o with what looked like 26 gauge. He was using a 18350... at least it was a AW though. I told him it was pretty dangerous to be using those batteries and why. I tried my best to lecture without lecturing (if that makes sense to anyone). He did seem genuinely concerned and almost upset that they sold it to him without any info or anything. I ended up giving him a 18650 sony just so he could keep on vaping his new stuff and not have to worry. Later in the week we spent a lunch rebuilding coils and today he actually returned my battery after he got himself a few of his own :). This is the 5th time I have encountered this in the last three months or so. Everyone but him pretty much blew it off saying "the store set it up so it should be fine."... :mad: The typical way I go about it is "oh that's a pretty cool rig, what ohms are you running in that?" The typical response: "Ohms? I don't know the store set it up."

Is this Starting to become common? It really makes me a little nervous if random e-cig stores are just handing out what I would call advanced setups to anyone that says "Oh, I like that one." without any education or even proper supplies.

The local vape shop will sell you anything you want, but also they can pull up what you have and explain why you have to get this or that. I had a couple of questions about rebuilding atomizers and they said that they are just getting into that and I should go to the internet and do my research and come back. A B&M that cares about their customers and safety is a welcome change!

most of them make you sign a waiver,,,,,,

another reason for the government to ban us,,,,,,,,,joy.

Really? I've never seen this. Most I've seen is a tiny sign posted nowhere of any use that basically just states these are dangerous - use at your own risk.

One of the shops I frequent stopped selling them prebuilt and will teach you how to before you buy it. Last week I bought a Nimbus and the guy started quizzing me until the owner told him he knew me and I was good to go lol. (kinda felt awesome :) )

the shops I go to do a very good job with education. Pretty much why I put up with their crazy mark up on stuff.

I agree that the store that set this up for him are negligent at best.

However, people need to take responsibility for their own actions. What kind of muppet puts one of these things near their face without fully understanding what it is, and what the inherent dangers are?

Sooner or later, and especially with the media and political coverage at the moment, when one goes *bang* in someone's face, it will be all over the bloody news and, as commaholly points out, this just gives credence to the banning issue. It gets on my nerves.

My parents live in the greater Los Angeles area, and while visiting them I have yet to be to one b&m store there, as well in my area of Santa Barbara/Goleta, and NOT see a shop do this. They are businesses plain and simple and want money. New customer "Billy" sees the clouds we blow, and think hey how come my ego c twist can't do that? What do I have to buy to get those clouds/flavor/cool toys ect. It is a serious risk, but ultimately out of our control.

I think it is pretty common and likely to continue and increase;
A mech, sub ohm, and a dripper are all the cheapest for the supplier to provide; and they're going to make a good profit; at the expense of the unsuspecting public.

AFTER something happens to somebody or a few people and somebody comes yelling in their face, they learn their lesson

I've never gone sum ohm, and have no desire to. I don't get the fascination with it at all.

Its a huge boost in flavor for me. I also don't stay satisfied without a decent about of vapor. Most days, especially driving, I carry a cartotank so its of little to no hassle when I'm out and about. If I am somewhere I can easily drip I will defiantly do so. I never stand a chance to stay of cigs when I'm drinking if I do not get a satisfactory amount of vapor.... IDK it baffles me most of the time..
