May be going back to a dead horse here but...

On the topic of monthly meets and that type of thing, I wonder if it would help interest/attendance if it were more of a "workshop" than a Vaper's Anonymous meeting.

For example: I'm very intrigued by the thought of DIYing juice but have never seen it done and am a little chicken about buying a bunch of crap only to fail miserably and mix up a few batches of crap that I wouldn't wish on anybody. I've heard all over the place that it's real easy and real cheap and that everyone should do it but that doesn't really comfort me enough to place an order for supplies today. If I could see it done by someone with some experience and sample the result and take notes and make a list of all the stuff I need and....... , that would probably make all the difference in the world to me.

Example 2: I read all the time that it's so easy to rebuild atties and Vivi Nova heads that anyone could do it. Same situation, I've never seen it done so I doubt I'll try it until that point.

I'm personally not interested much at all in buying much at a vape meet. I can usually get most of what I need from Sam competitively priced enough for me. If I want to try something that he doesn't carry, I get it online and then tell him about it. If it's something I like and can see buying more of in the future, he does what he can to get it. I'm not necessarily married to him as my sole supplier but I do feel a certain amount of loyalty to him. Surely most people have their favourite vendors to source certain things from.

The social aspect IS appealing to me. So is the trying new things and learning new things.

If it was more of a workshop scenario, I definitely wouldn't mind seeing business being done. Everyone will always need a few cartos or a new atty or a battery or want to get their hands on the latest PV or you name it. But if a vendor is "sponsoring" the meet up, it just feels more like a sales seminar to me and it loses much of the attraction.

I don't mean to say that there should be no vendors there. In fact, it wouldn't bother me to see several. A howto or two, availability of various products, maybe even a door prize now and then, and I would think a lot more people would have an easier time making it more than quarterly.

Bob strikes me as having some knowledge about these things......

(denial in 3....2.......)

Very true..I guess I was just looking out for Veal and his desire for the containment of such privy information..

Those are some good ideas there, mate! Not only would people, such as yourself, get a handle on some things they are interested in..it might incline others to take more of an interest and understanding of the "lifestyle" and see how much it has grown and how big it actually is around here.

As far as the business end of it goes, I'm pretty sure that the guys Hawk was talking about were just looking at catering to the local vapers and it would be easier for them to do so without having a lot of traffic to their homes. Kind of an ease of access sort of thing. I know they also want to be able to get ideas from the locals about what they look for and their needs. But yeah, if it was just a meet put on by any vendor only for the purpose of sales, that would be a turn off to a lot people.

With all of this said, it is still unclear as to how we would get more than a handful of people to want to show up. From the people around here in Lincoln that I have talked to, there really isn't much interest in a meet. They don't view it as a hobby, lifestyle or an obsession like some of us here. They don't seem to have the inclination to try new things and seem to be put off by a meet for some reason. Maybe I just haven't talked with the right people, in this regard, but I don't know every vaper around here so getting the word out is restricted.

As Hawk said, baby steps are probably in order. I know they had two big vape conventions in Chicago back in March. Next year I full plan on a road trip to attend at least one of them. Vendors galore.

Yeah, obviously we are in no way ready for a vape convention here..but one would nice to go to. But there has to be some logical ways to get word out to the majority of the vapers around here for a simple meet.

I don't mind sharing my limited knowledge with anyone who wants to listen. Any excuse to get out, right? I don't think there needs to be sponsors or even vendors. Just people who share a common interest. If it's fun people will show.

Where is a good vape friendly venue?

Well with sponsors and vendors you know you have a little funding to help get people in the door. Whether it's to try out and see new things or to get a perspective on local vendors (which NE is lacking, for the most part). Granted, I have no problem without them as far as just a meet up with the fine locals here. But I think most are trying to get this as a bigger deal than just that. But from what I have heard just here, maybe small and efficient to start would be an ideal thing. Then devise a plan for the "larger scale".

Maybe with some support from the local vendors, we could build a "nebraska vapers" website and a corresponding facebook page.

At several e-cig type tags to the site so its pulled up when a person searchs specific to e-cigs and nebraska. Site could have a glossary of terms and a quick over view of how e-cigs work. A subscribe to newsletters section, and links to our "sponsors"
