Exactly,, This PV was not cheap and I want to take good care of it. And I do get some satisfaction from keeping it looking as nice as I can. It always seems to hit better just after I polish it. Weird huh? Just like when you wash and wax the car. It seems to run smoother for some reason.

I am sure that you have already cleaned threads too and battery connector, thats the reason that it hits better. And it will always have the best hit like the first day if you keep it clean:):)

I was not expecting less from you vapn!!

Hi everyone. It's so great to be a new part of the GG team!

OK Imeo, I talked to Lisa and she helped answer some questons. She's a great gal.

This is what I am planning to do. I think this is going to help a lot of people in the forums who have these concerns and I will be sure to report my findings to everyone. The finish on my models is the most important thing to me because I am going to buy many models all at once and I want them to look the best they possibly can. And I like shiny things. :) So I made some phone calls today to some plating companies in my area who specialize in putting professional "iodized" (I think that was the word) plating on aluminum and brass. The people I talked to said they want me to bring them in pictures of the GG and bring in my Silver Bullet, but they said that they believe they can do what I want. And it's fairly inexpensive. It will only cost about $5-$10 USD per device (they said they'd do 15 devices for ballpark $75 USD). It will be a nice plated finish that should keep fingerprints and scratches off of the GG and not require any buffing or polishing for a very long time, but I'm not totally sure yet and this is what I need to find out more about, and ask more questions when I go to see them. I am going to drive to several different plating companies over the next few days to get their opinions and I will bring them my Silver Bullet and pictures of the GG's to look at.

I just wanted to know if anyone could tell me if the button on the GG's is removable so that they can plate the tubes only (and maybe the caps). Can the button come out completely to leave just a hole?

I believe that if this is a viable option, many people in the forums will like the idea if no one else has come up with it yet (not sure if it's been discussed). I just want to help everyone have the best GG possible. And I want people to have what they like. And I want to make sure that all of my models are to my liking. This is why I do so much research for me and everyone. And I like shiny things too.

What do you guys think of this idea?

Thank you!!! :rolleyes::):D

awww, thanks, happy to have you on the team, my friend. :D

This "anodising" or whatever it is sounds cheap enough to give it a try, for sure. However, can I make the suggestion that you do it only one one of your new GGs at first? Then you can leave the others until you are 100% sure that you like the finish and the way it wears over time too.

Yes, the buttons are removable so you can plate the tubes. Imeo did a video on how to attach a new button which should help you with this. :)

That's a great idea Lisa! Thanks! I will consider that.

BTW, I opened a new thread to discuss resolving the issue with the GG finish if anyone cares to jump in. I posted the link above.

Take care!

Actually Lisa, now that I think about it, I have 2 Silver Bullets and I may just give it a try on one of them to see how it goes. If it works out good, then I can order my GG's shiny with confidence that it should work on all of them. I may do my Silver Bullet in the next few days. I'll let you guys know what I decide.

How are you going to deal with the button and wiring on the Silver Bullet? You know you are going to have to disassemble it to have it anodized right? I work with anodized aluminum in the marine industry. We use it to build towers and tops for boats. It looks like stainless steel and the coating is clear. You will need to polish the aluminum out real good because it will really show any scratches. It almost magnifies them and once they are there you will never get them out. If you try to buff an anodized part it will take the coating off. Plus it scratches pretty easy too. We have to be very careful not to scratch the pipe as we work with it. We use lots of tape to protect the coating during the fabrication process. Personally I would not do this. I have my GG shiny and it doesn't really show finger prints as bad as I thought it would at first. When I get juice on my fingers it kinda puts a sheen on the GG..lol... If I want to shine it back up I can easily. And if I get a scratch I can buff it out.

So I would definitely take Lisa's advice and just do one and see how you like it for a long period of time. That way you can change your mind easier.

I thought about that and I wasn't sure. I figured I'd ask the plating companies and watchmakers their opinions when I visited them, but now you've got me thinking it's a waste of time.

What do you think about abhowe's watch maker idea?
abhowe said on the other thread, "I am not talking polish or polishing meathods...... I am talking about going to the watch manufacturers like Invicta or one of these small, yet high quality watch makers...... Just for instance, I am a watch collector who really likes Invicta...... I own 24 Invictas and know their quality...... But they are a small company...... Maybe they could help you..... I think they are in Hollywood Florida....."

Thanks!

I think you talked me out of plating it, but I may still visit a plating company or 2 to get their opinions.

I sure would love your input on abhowe's watchmaker idea.

So what do you think about the shiny finish without any plating as opposed to the in between shiny and mat finish? Do you like it better personally? Is it hard for you to maintain? What do you use for shining? And how hard is it to buff out scratches? Would the following tools work for shining and/or buffing out tiny scratches with a simple standard screwdriver (I don't want a difficult method if I have to buff it myself)?...

Yes those tools would work well.. I hear of the gals using a nail polisher to do theirs. Lisa can help you there. I did mine at work one day on the high speed wheel and rouge. To keep it shiny I use Mothers aluminum polish. It is for mag wheels and works very good. To get a scratch out you could use some wet sanding paper. You do not want to take any unnecessary material from the tube.. When I first got mine it was kinda rough. It was a prototype and not really meant for sale.. I spent about two hours sanding it and getting the bad spots out by hand. I then took a sanding pad (like the green scrubby you use for pots and pans in the kitchen sink) but these are used for sanding real fine stuff. Got them at the hardware store... You can keep a semi mat finish with these things or you could just use a brillo pad. Follow the grain of the metal.. It goes round the circumference of the pipe. Then for the button... a dremmel tool with one of those little cotton wheels works great... Actually thinking about it you could probably just use the dremmel tool to do this whole job..

But yea I explored all the avenues of anodizing when I got my Silverbullet and Prodigy. Both told me not to do it because of resistance. You would have to protect or re-cut the threads after doing this to keep the flow of current... You can anodize these things but before the threads are cut and holes drilled... Not after.

I actually have absolutely no problems with my shiny finish staying nice looking. I was thinking it would get fingerprints real bad but it really doesn't. I think the juice that gets on it acts like a sheen or shine itself..lol...

Good luck with whatever you do and I want to see what you come up with. pix please.

My first GG the Grant is handled so much it is shiny. I never polished it but just handling it has really given it a patina. I like the more satiny finish. My Transformer has the Skinomi on it so it will keep that finish. I like them both but I personally don't really desire more shine.

I find that the original grant that I shined up and lost the engraving on - just isn't as special as the one that still has the engraving. It looks like it could be any PV or even a copy.
My trans does have what could be descibed as a nice patina now - I love it! :)

HEY -----

what is this Patina -----

who is he -----

where did he come from ----

can I have one------------

come on guys we are friends we can share this patina guy ???????:pervy::pervy:

I was actually thinking of sending mine in for the engraving... Like you said it kinda looks like it could be a copy.. lol... I might do this when I can afford a new GG...

And I am wondering what is patina...?
