But that's just the thing. Before I get them, I have to be able to decide whether to order a shiny finish frim Imeo, or an in between shiny and mat finish. Before I can make that decision, I have to first do all of my research, visit plating companies, jewelers, and take suggestions. Then the next step is getting them. :)

I missed that bit.
Well, my advice is to get them as they come standard - then make up your mind after.

Would it be difficult to get a buffing company to mirror shine them for me later?

Or if I went with shiny and decided to do in between shiny and mat later, would it be difficult to get a buffing company to make them in between shiny and mat later?

This would be easy - although check with Imeo about the depth of the engraving.

Not sure anyone has tried to do it in reverse, another reason why I suggest not going down this route - at least not with all of them anyway.

Yeah, he said it would be .2mm deep, 4 times stronger than before.

Hey, do you know anything about the "resistance" factor that vapn mentioned with the plating? I never got an answer to what he meant. Does it have something to do with the electric current running through the device?

Thanks!

I'll let Imeo answer this one....:D

I know from being on bike forums that people preserve polished aluminium or steel surfaces with clearcoat (clear powdercoat, a thin plastic coating). Whether it would affect the aforementioned conductivity, or be affected by any heat near the atomiser end I wouldn't know. You would also want it very thin so you did not make the tube noticeably thicker. It is available in clear, plus any colour you can think of including metallics/fades. There are other clearcoat options such as spraycan lacquers but they tend not to last long without chipping/scratching/contracting & crazing.

lol. Yes sir, I have been going back and forth with Imeo, for days now, about this particular issue. We've discussed the Skinomi and various other things. He keeps insisting that I will regret a shiny finish due to fingerprints and scratches, but he will do it for me if that's what I want. Imeo does not have the tools and experience to do anything other than a shiny or in between shiny and mat finish. He is not experienced with Skinomi or laquer finishes, and does not have a production line to do this (as Lisaf01 mantioned in PM). He is experienced in machining and bringing us the best of a handmade product. But even though he's trying to talk me out of a shiny finish, I still like shiny finishes. I always will. I love the Silver Bullet's finish. But the fingerprints do suck. So I'm trying to get the forum members' heads together to come up with a solution to a long-lasting shiny finish (or even a long lasting mat finish, if that's your liking). If Imeo could have done this by now, I'm sure he would have.

Perhaps Imeo himself could look into finding a plating company to do this in Greece for us at a small extra cost to the buyer. What do you think, Imeo?

Hi esmoking, its not a matter of experiense the shiny issue. No one knows everything. I also did knew about powder coating but I didnt knew, the procedure because prosedure doesnt matter. The only that matters is that I can do it so easy. I can go to a factory to make a coat of chromium, no problem, I just dont want it for several reasons:

1) fingerprints on it
2) Hand oil on it
3) scratces
4) the coat you will put will leave in some time and the whole thing will be a mess.
5) you are afraid of using it. Mirror things must stay to wall and untouchable.

On the other hand, mat style has the following advantages:

1) The oposite of the above:):)

I made it from aluminium 7075 that is already very shiny, but if someone wants a mirror effect he can do it if he wants. I am more than ok with it:):)

I am not talking polish or polishing meathods...... I am talking about going to the watch manufacturers like Invicta or one of these small, yet high quality watch makers...... Just for instance, I am a watch collector who really likes Invicta...... I own 24 Invictas and know their quality...... But they are a small company...... Maybe they could help you..... I think they are in Hollywood Florida.....

Anodizing will add resistance to your GG ... By careful with this... I talked to Steve at Puresmoker about the Prodigy and he had originally anodized it and the results were not good... I also talked to the maker of the Silver bullet and he warned me not to do this... I work with anodized aluminum all day every day building towers on boats and yes it does hold up well and stays shiny.. But adds resistance.. not good for our application. Keep it plain aluminum and just wipe it down when it needs it.. I use mothers mag wheel cleaner on mine.. Brings it back to the original shine I started with.

Vap, please listen only me about some things because I have seen in the past many supliers saying things that are totally wrong!!

There is no problem with anodising if you first anodise it and then open your holes anywhere on a mod.

I have already see suppliers saying wrong things about ohms law. I dont speak to anyone, there is no reason for this. But on GG forum you will hear only the right things for any matter!!

I was wondering about this.. How would it effect the metal under the anodizing if you cut your threads after anodizing. YOu would be conducting current through the sub metal. I was thinking that had to be bull because I weld the stuff all day.. Every day and I get current through it. SO I can anodize with no problems... You will see a purple GG soon.... :) :)

if you cut your threads after anodizing you are more than ok. Its like you never did anodising. threads and holes will be only pure aluminium.

I made a pink one, you read my mind vapn!!. I send it to a girl in Athens to tell me her opinion:lol:

When I first got my Prodigy I was working in a place that would do it for me free and I asked those two guys and they told me it would not work.. resistance.. so I didn't do it.. I was going to do it in red... or purple.. lol... or blue... I couldn't do that to the GG..

The Silver Slim is Stainless right? Wouldn't work for that...

I was thinking about the anodizing this morning... If you were to dip the GG as we have it (already threads cut and holes drilled) then you coated the entire thing.. Would that effect the GG's performance. I think this is why those others were talking me out of it. Because I would need to re-cut threads.... Or keep them from getting anodized somehow.

Just Day dreaming

A titanium Alloy GGT would be AWSOME!!!...

Cons: PRICE!
Pros: even more IMMORTAL!!!!

Reason I mention this is cause the day after I got mine, I pulled it out of my pocket and caught a snap and put a nice big scratch all the way down the side. It is almost as deep as the laser etching.... I Polished it, but with no luck. I am deftly afraid to touch it with sand paper. I thought that I could get it laser etched with strips if it really bothers me...

It was heart breaking... A GG made from materials harder than the "everyday" thing we use and carry with us (keys, cellphones, pens with clips, key rings, etc, would be great.

Sorry to hear that you scratched your GG so badly Youssefa. I too would like a titanium GG - I love titanium jewellery too.

Trouble is, you're talking much greater expense in addition to the equipment and skills needed to machine it.

We can dream though. :D

I like this idea. Does anyone have any input on whether or not they think it is a viable option?

What do you guys mean by "cut your threads after anodizing"?

Good question for Imeo, I'm a bit confused now.:confused::confused::)
