Placebo Effect gave a minute-or-two interview in this segment (by phone, from an airport, on 2 minutes notice!) and then she takes a couple of more callers.

This lady, Pat Thurston, is quite a bit to the left of me and I'm a lifelong California Democrat, so it is a very nice shock to hear her take our side!

Interesting. I went to the link and it was set up for the 9am segment and about 30 minutes in talking about Obamacare/Affordable Care act - she says: "I've never cared for the act. I've always thought that this mandate was wrong and unconstitutional ... and that the justification that Justice Roberts gave that it wasn't, was "iffy".... (laughs)". We need more Leftists like this!

You need the next link.

I had no idea she felt that way about the health care act. Maybe I am more leftist than she is, but I've sure heard her say things I felt were far to the left of me. I guess once anybody's IQ is over about 110, we start being individuals no matter what party.

Gee, makes me wonder about D.C.......

Excellent find, Berylanna! I'm listening to it now and the host, as you said, appears to be a very smart individual thinker.

As for those who follow party line politics, I don't know that it has anything to do with IQ, although that might be a certain percentage. I know several registered Republicans and Democrats who will not vote for the other party for any reason, but they are very smart people. When the complain about their own party politics, I ask why they don't drop the party label and vote on the issues. The general response I get (and I'm paraphrasing) is: "Well, you have to pick a side that most closely aligns with your values". To me, that sounds more like they are either too lazy or too busy to actually delve into the issues and research the votes of the candidates.

If your friends are complaining about their own party, they ARE thinking independently compared to a lot of the people who vote to ban or limit vaping.

I've only voted for one member of the other party, ever, but that is not on purpose. The reason: he was smart, moderate, and an independent thinker. I still have my eye out for more like him, but I'm not seeing them. I may switch parties to a new one -- a cross between moderate and libertarian -- tonight at a meeting. But since in California it looks like the Democrats are starting to listen to vapers after all, I'll feel like I'm not giving them the reward they deserve for listening and thinking. Better late than never.

I'm not really a full-on moderate or libertarian, but I want California to have a credible alternative to the Democrats...gotta keep everybody on their toes. (Credible == have not taken a vow to someone that they hold higher than their vows of office, family and religious vows excepted.)

I'll still put in at LEAST two weekend days of volunteer work for ANYBODY opposing Corbett come the next election season, even if I don't like that person's politics, as long as that person supports vapers, or even doesn't oppose us.

In deciding who rules this country, heroism is great and I deeply thank those who have served my country, BUT, the rest of us don't have to sit on our large behinds. We can make phone calls, get paper cuts stuffing envelopes, pound pavement, pass out flyers at campaign speeches. AND we can do most of that without leaving our immediate areas. Surf the net to see who is running in primaries and elections, and where their events and local headquarters are.
