Okay guys I'm scared. I am absolutely stoked about my new 510 and the fact that I don't want a cigarette at all anymore. I use an empty cart with Liquid Xpress Cool Rush 18mg. I put 2 drops every time I want to smoke and replace the cartridge every 2 days. Am I doing that right in the first place?
But since using my new e-cig (got it a couple days ago) I have had a real heavy feeling in my chest and shortness of breath. Have it right now as I'm writing. This scares me and and makes me think my body is trying to tell me something. Am I going from one harmful thing to another? I've read a lot of info and I see most of it says that e-cigs are better for you than a cigarette, but my breathing doesn't tell me that. I didn't have this feeling when I smoked real cigs! Has anyone else had this, and what does it mean? Does it go away or stay this way? Does the juice tend to bring on asthmatic symptoms or something? Please help because I am really excited that this is going to finally be the answer to me quitting smoking for good.....but what else am I putting into my body instead???

I have never had asthma. No shortness of breath while vaping or since starting vaping. I have experienced a little heaviness in my chest when I vape more than I normally would. It went away as soon as the newness of vaping ceased and I vape more reasonably now. All that being said......GO SEE A DOCTOR if this is highly abnormal for YOU!! IMHO

I wish you the very best of luck :)

So when you fill that empty cart, you are only putting in 2 drops? The cart filling should be saturated to begin with, then add a drop or two when taste drops off. Maybe you are smoking the filling? If I am misunderstanding what you are saying, is it possible you are allergic to to the liquid? I don't know, most people (myself included) are breathing much easier. Some have even been able to go off blood pressure and asthma drugs since starting their e-cigs. I hope you can figure this out and continue vaping...

I have never had this either. I would see a doc first and foremost, but other than that here are my thoughts.

- Do you feel buzzed more than when you smoke a regular cig? If so it could be that you are getting more nicotine than you are used to.

- Some people are allergic to the PG solution. Maybe try a non PG. I dont know where to get non PG ... can someone post where here?

- I know a panic attack can cause shortness of breath. Maybe the e-cig gave you a new feeling which caused this? Stress and panic can both cause it.

- Also I agree with JenJen, you might be smoking the filling. Saturate the cartridge, but without leaving any standing liquid in there. Also, I usually make a cartridge last a week or so before i replace it. Maybe thats bad, but I have found that's about when the taste starts to get bad. Is your filling in the cartridge brown or look burnt?

Best of luck. Let us know how you do.

This is just a guess, as I'm not a doctor, but your lungs could be healing if you just quit smoking analogs. I had that feeling for a couple of days, hacked a bit and then it went away. My bet is that you are just feeling the healing process.

Make sure you're not chain vaping or vaping too often - it's a new toy, but you have to put it down once in a while! :)

If you are still feeling it in a few days, go to the doctor. It could also be a PG allergy.

Oh wow, I just remembered that - My first few days off analogs and on the e-cig, I did have some shortness of breath. I wonder if thats a symptom of quitting smoking.

So off to google I went - check this out:

Wow, guys thanks for all the feedback. It's helping me understand my new found ife with my e-cig. Maybe I am feeling my lungs healing, maybe I am smoking it too much, who knows. I will wait a litle while longer and see if it goes away. I'm going to post a separate thread listing how I use this thing and make sure I'm using it right.
Geez, I had no idea you have to DOUSE the cartridge with liquid, I was afraid that would be too much nicotine!

I have had asthma for 27 years, and it does cause shortness of breath and heavy chest. Since it has been continuing for a little while I would ask you to please go to the ER since clinics are likely to be closed. They will give you a albuteral treatment and a chest X Ray to check for pneumonia. You will be Ok, but please go and do that.

Ditto on doctor.

Nicotine can be very irritating in 100% PG. Some people get sore tongue, nouth, throat or even lungs. Are you using 100% PG juice? If so, try juice with 50/50 PG/VG and try some 100% VG with the atomizer and cart. You can use that thick with that method. It those are OK you can try just 20-30% VG (that much is usually enough to remove irritation while retaining a good amount of TH and flavor. If you are only OK with 100% VG then you may be someone who is sensitive/allergic to PG.

Also - what strength of cigarettes did you smoke and how many per day?
And are you vaping more than you smoked?
It is possible to over-nic yourself and some symptoms are headache, rapid or irregular heartbeat, cold fingers, hazy or ill feeling.

It's also possible the particular juice brand or flavoring doesn't agree with you.

I thought that you were talking about dripping into the atomizer and referring to it as a cart. When people drip, they remove the cart and drip 2 to 3 drops of juice on the mesh bridge in the atomizer. The cart (the part with the fiber filler material) is removed and set aside to do this.

If you were correctly referring to the cart, then yes, you should drip drops into it until is looks like a slushy. It shouldn't puddle on top of the filler. If it does, use the bottle as an eyedropper of sorts and suck the excess juice back into the bottle.

At any rate, get checked out just for your own peace of mind. Just wondering if something is wrong can give you a panic attack.

Edit: I just realized that the original post was from September 2009. Oh well!
